This Whaler shoot out thing, is it only 15 footers? Does anybody have a fast 17 Montauk? Is there any pics of Keys Dave and his v6 17 Montauk? You hear so much talk about the 15s being prone to chine walking that I always wondered if a 17 with a v6 would make a better hot rod.
RJ, with the basic hull mods the 15 becomes stable as a rock. The 17 weighs 900, you need at least 200 to get the same power to weight ratio as a 115 on a 15, with a bunch more wind resistance. For me the 15 was perfect for our tiny river.

Dave had a 260 on his and it was balz to walls crazy from what he told me (ran into the 80s). I am putting a 200xs on mine and if its not stable then its getting the pad treatment. My Montauk runs just about the same as the 15 did with a 70 merc it has seen best of 42 having the motor as high as possible w/o a low water pick-up. The XS will have a 1:87 sporty and a 6 inch set back. My guess is upper 60s. I need help with a problem, the prop shaft I have is too short to mount a prop. Ill try to get pictures, just wondering if anything can be done.
Any one ever try to run a 17' McKee Craft with the tunnel in the back of the hull fast?

This is Joe's Whaler with the Doug Wright Pad. It turns really nice and flat and doesn't fall off at slower speeds
That is a different approach to holding it up on the pad. :cheers:
This'll have the folks at whaler scratching their heads ....when all the whalers are being bought up and getting a pad glassed in. I love it
