For some reason my area has attracted several Canadian musicians as a place to live. All the Bachman's have homes here. You know the band Bachman Turner Overdrive. Tim Bachman is a real estate here in town. Jerry Doucette has lived next door to my best friend in elementary school for over 40 years now. Bryan Adams has a home here too. As does Sarah McLachlan. A not well known musician, also lives out here. He's more known as a record producer, mainly Metallica. His names Bob Rock.
Net local bars here sometimes get surprise acts from all the above. Saw Doucette a few ago performing at our local Neighborhood association dinner.

Its great especially the guys from the 1970's.
Oh forgot in 08 the record producers band from the 1980's performed at the towns next door too me Canada Day Celebration. Its kind of cool that these older guys do perform here like a local band.
His band did make it on Miami Vice as background music for a scene.

What I like about bands from the 1970's and 1980's. You go to their concerts and it sounds the same as their album. Music today is so cleaned up in the studio. Even mediocre musicians on the radio, or if you download the song. It sounds awesome. But you see them live and its like a lousy local bar cover band.
Back in the 1980's, if a band even with a few hit songs on the radio. If they sucked live like say Nickleback. They went nowhere and nobody remembers them now. Nowday's no talent say Justin Bieber are the new music stars.
The reason the record producer own band never made it. They suck live big time!

I'm not a big fan of say REO Speedwagon. Fact is they put on an awesome live show. Or the same with the Bare Naked Ladies. They don't get much radio play in the US because their songs kind of suck. The best they've is the Big Bang Theory theme song. Or maybe the song If I had A Million Dollars. Live they are awesome. Since the late 1980's if the Ladies do a show in Vancouver I go. Even more awesome because they are not mega stars in the USA. Their Seattle shows are at local bars and even better!
In the 1970's and 1980's the whole album had to be liked. If they put on a equally great show that sounded as good or better then the album. They became super stars. U2 is the best example of this.
Theres MANY bands before that only stated a Radio song, did just as good live, and better with major events when "simple had the talent". One alone ? STONES! I was 12 when they hit the scene, and STILL AT IT? 55 YEARS LATER?
On BTO" There was (back Illinois then after out Nam, still a kid early 70's) a outdoor 4 band all day event and ya drove in. Behind the small stadium was the biker parking. BTO had just played, (TCB last) still late AFT, daylight still and some other band stage now. Well the biker outlaws had a "bit of difference" and GUN FIRE! People that side (I was across looking) panicked and a mad dash out that side? SIT STILL, or "walk into the fire"?
Didn't last long, band never stopped playing, and then a break for evening chow, smoke, toke, snort, get wound up for dark now, Head Liner band. WHO? HUMBLE PIE!
2 vids.. BTO TCB. and some one that gun fight got probably got "30 days"

I was only two when BTO became famous. I knew of Doucette because he'd have other musicians at his house and it was next door to my friends. Six years old and could hear them practicing next door. I didn't see them as rock stars, etc. Lived in normal suburban houses. The others like BTO, I learned about them mainly because of the Worlds Fair in Vancouver, Expo 86. Many Canadian acts played free concerts there. 14 in 1986. My taste was more Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Eagles, etc. Was also developing a taste for late 70's punk, Sex Pistols, DOA, etc. I was so clueless on mainstream rock of the day. Coming back from Los Angeles to Vancouver. The stewardess asked me who Bon Jovi was and why a bunch of people wanted their autograph. Even though it was summer 86. I had no clue who they are!
Now for something completely different https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr4jeaaVGCA
