When we got to Torx drive being commonplace for fastening, I went thru my garage / shop inventory and practically threw everything away that had slots.
I don't even remember the last time I drove a screw in by hand. It's all cordless lithium ion drill / driver tools these days...........

...In the wood boat building world, the "Reed & Prince" silicone bronze wood screws were the next generation screws, that replaced the straight slot wood screws. They were a recessed cross head pattern that came to a point at the inside bottom, and could only be driven with Reed & Prince driver or bit. Very precise fitment & quality for the times.
