Is the boat Hering set his record in and the current record boat the same boat?
Benny Robertsonīs record setting 141 MPH qualifying lap in his #57 SE/Johnson F1-V8 put him on the pole..:thumbsup:

I wonder how F3 with a 90 e-tec and a few more revs would fly?
Maybe the day is coming when BRP takes the step and build race engines again.
At this time there is no plans for any racing outboards.

The same hull (Karlsen hydro) was used for both Hering's and Wartinger's records, but with cockpit and cowl modifications. Not sure what, if anything, was done to the bottom.
The engine was modded quite a bit for the Wartinger's runs, as I recall. Ran on methanol with nitrous.
The 1975 ON World Championship race in Cardiff was the start for Renato to use the low profile rear boat cowlings.
I was there and remember I could not make up my mind if I liked it or not.

The first person went to his first Paris 6hr race to watch his dad race aged 9 his dad had Timo Makinen as his co driver that year. I have endclosed a picture of one of these guys wearing young mans clothes.Another guy was a top class outboard tech on both OMC and Mercury and ran his own boatrace team. The other guy was driving has dads landrover around London delivering boats at the age of 14 yrs old.You have already recognised the other driver.

HeeHee mister h,
Thanks to a very fun answer, plenty of info I did not know. My guess it was a 9 year old Andy watching his dad Alf race in Paris..??
I know Timo Makineen raced a 32 Skater in a race between Stockholm and Helsingfors 1988 but Paris was new to me.
Thanks again.
The Briggs brothers Scotti/Evinrude V4 Super Stranger and an Evinrude Rotary race engine.
I think this is the Scotti boat the Briggs brothers raced in Paris 1974 with a V6 Super Strangler and crashed out.

I believe this is the unit that sat downstairs at Waukegan Engineering. It is the 2-crank version with the die cast flywheel. It doesn't have the access plugs for the lower spark plus and carb jets. If I remember its also missing some of the ignition. I will volunteer to help get it ready to run if someone was to pay my expenses. It appears it has the 15/17 gear case also. Does anyone know if Bob Zips is still alive?
