The Morano glass I picked up at the car boot sale must have been a magnificent piece originally, I have two pieces of it but the third is missing-----have earmarked the breaking wave for the black wing, which was the "runt"--------the throwaway experimental,.
Funny how things turn out,The best motors and gear cases are on the black.

Remember Dave i I told you the shop was full up, EVERYWHERE was full up, even the top of the cabinet with the mirrors where I used to take piccies-------not any more, don't have a single item left in the shop. Had a total clear out, garden shed has over a 100 bits of old fart art?
Will stick to wood and polish finish in future, I'm crap at paintwork--------do like the glass, stainless, hardwood, granite effect, especially in boats of any kind.
Having all sorts of trouble trying to cobble a plastic cockpit like the 7000 has, haven't got within a country mile of where I need to be yet.
Hand painting is not for me either, put a brush in my hand and I paint like I got Parkinson's, I must be the only man in the world who can get a ripple effect from a spray can. Same thing with the engraver, I shake like an "Aspen".
bought a bunch of engineering tools, some plate brass, a tin of centre drills as well as the Murano all for under £50, maybe my touch is coming back!

Someone wrote and asked what the " bottom of a baby's pram" looked like, answer is simple,

No Piccies tonight-------Looked at the White boats and didn't like what I saw, so took them back to mahogany and acacia-----now I do like.
Tried all the boats mounted on the Murano glass, think the 700 and the 7000 suit it best One on each piece. Take some phoggies. Tomorrow, you can tell me what you think.
Coming up to the final assembly of all five wings, a few mods, a final touch up and we're done.
Still got the walnut cut up, ready for shaping------may postpone it until later-----five wings in a row is as much as any man can do. don't usually procrastinate, this may be the exception.

See Lassie STROM is doing his one man show for OMC, even Willabee would be hard pushed to match his race photo/videos, most of its OMC------can't blame him for that, I never snapped a JONRUDE that I can remember!

Somebody posted a picture of a ROTORY ------IT was red and orange, Damned if I could find it again, couldn't find a way to download it. If anybody out there can send me the pick I would be grateful.

That will help a lot Johnno, think that's the motor I'm looking for on the boat, it's a view of the port side taken from the rear, detail was excellent.
That's the next project, so would like a few good piccies of it from all angles.

I remember that pic too, just can't place what thread it was in. Maybe it was on Lars' web site.

Remember I told you That the mounting of a piece could either make or break it, here are a couple of shots of the wings on the Murano------amazing how different coloured boats look on glass.
Did an all black mount, but it should have a white, glass, or stainless back ground.
Finished the tenth and final gear case ! But at a price, cut straight through the nail to the bone with the cut off wheel on my right hand index finger, first time in many a long year I've had any sort of injury----true what they say-------"familiarity breeds contempt"

Looking good Jackie, indeed you are hiding in the piccies. That cut off wheel in the finger must have felt great.

Spent the night first holding the digit as high in the air as possible----then out sideways---there was no way it was ever going to be comfortable, got up and bathed it in cold water, turned the water red ( was expecting it to turn BLUE), took one of those 1,000 miles an hour aspirin tablets and finally dropped off to sleep. So, yes Dave it was a great feeling having a 2mm wheel plough its way down my finger.
If I'm brutally honest, I never should have removed the guard for ease of use, or used the angle grinder without safety gloves No fool like an old one----Familiarity?

On the last lap with the wings, four plus Rogers! Two white, 700 &7000, one all black, and one in mahogany and Acacia.
Remounted the 7000, took it out of the oven door, bent a length of half inch stainless round bar. Tapped it, now all I have to do is find a suitable base.!

Monday again, have high hopes of getting my licence back, daughter Sam went to the Saigon area for a month, back in work for three days, then off to Stuart for two weeks, hoping she is going to take a suitcase full of wings with her to Florida.

Anybody going to tell me what went on in Tavares this last weekend?

Jackie: If my memory serves me correctly, you are recalling the pictures of the Johnson Rotary that was posted for sale on E-Bay. It was the photo model and didn't have a powerhead in it. The pictures were parts of the rotary album Liquid-varna had, but all his pictures were stolen by shutterfly. I have been told where this photo unit is and plan to go look in the near future. If it's real, I'll send you pictures.

Finger pain on a scale of 1--10 has gone down to 7 so managed the day without pills, even the pain threshold is getting old and wore out.
All the wings have now got props on the gear cases-----was unhappy with the paint job on the White 7000 so dismantled it and gave it 2 coats of white smooth Hamerite-----see what it looks like in the morning.
Put the black one on a silver mount------ still don't know for certain whether I like it or not. I did give it another coat of wax and a pair of black four bladed props.
Should have them all ready for dispatch by the weekend.

One of Jills boys gave her "Tea for two"at the Ritz in London, so we are taking Wednesday off and going to the Palladium to see "Cats" after the tea.

Downloaded the picture of the ROTORY Johnno and Bob but it didn't come out at all well. A couple more pictures would help if you got any. That is the one I was referring to -----Thanks.

Course I do Fred was a great character, had a lot of time for him, raced in Bristol several times, was friend of CHARLIE Shepperd.

Had a couple of Mahogony bits left over, so I started fernagling---one thing leads to another---why not let the cowl and the power head flow into each other-----don't look right without a gear case, now it needs a prop--------mount it on an old Mahogony plank----still not right-----give it a white back ground------lets just polish it with Karnuba and a mop. Glued up some Mahogony for the ROTORY----told Mark what I was up to and we got to talking about ROTORIES in general and Jonrudes. He said the two most memorable things OMC did was the noisiest outboard ever-----the GT Stinger and the ROTORY----or ROTARY. OMC never had a Lake X and until the ROTORY program didn't seem to have much of of an R&D set up either.
To say there were only ever six motors in total, they certainly left the biggest mark for the company.

Look Johnno I'm not looking for an argument but this thread is now officially open for discussion

Me myself am of the opinion that the V6 Mercury in all its forms was the backbone of the company for over thirty years-----development started in 68 .

Jackie: The development of the rotary was done outside of the race group. Mike Griffith and I both worked in the rotary group under George Miller. Jack Leek's race group consisted of Charlie Strang, Jack Leek, Clarence Blanchard, Paul Cobb, Don Henrich and Ray Wagner along with 6 or 8 technicians. Bob Nagotie and Jimbo actually worked in a different location and were more involved with the boats (ie: the goat boat). While the race group technicians assembled the rotaries, none of the design or development was done by them. Mark is correct in that OMC didn't have a dedicated test facility like Lake X. Lake Michigan was typically to rough to test tunnel boats and the local lakes frowned on race boats running 100+ MPH. Of course, both froze up in the winter. The test station in Stuart was on the intercostal and not really suitable for testing race boat either. Fl testing was done on the river above the locks. Jim Nerstrom and Don Kunney got involve with the 3 cylinder race engine, but again was directed under the outboard group. Kunney was promoted to chief Engineer and Nerstrom joined the race group as a development engineer after I left in '76. Prior to that development of the race engine was done by the outboard group, technical services (exhaust tuning) and the race group technicians. As I said before, OMC race development was go to the race a day or 2 ahead of time, run a couple of props and go race. Nobody believes me, but thats how it was when I was involved. Mark was also right about the noise of the rotary and its why I'm 3/4 deaf today. Manually adjusting carbs while in the dyno room running a 7000 was quit a thing.

Been out turkey hunting the last 2 days. No success yet but I'm sure I'll nail a turkey sooner or later.

Ok Johnno so your the odd degree deef, I also have "dodgy harkers" due to a mastoid arthritis when I was fourteen years old. We. Maybe have more in common than you think.

Have a head full of tales about our visit to the capital------longtime since I rode the rails in the UK. First thing I noticed was the absence of the"Diddly do--diddly dah" it's more like a Disney ride than a train journey, it's all so quiet? Most fellow travellers were either deep into their iPhones, iPads or computers. Arrived at Victoria station and took a cab to the Ritz-----very few people were actually speaking English but I definitely heard the native tongue occasionally.
Was greeted by a gold liveried doorman who held the cab door open with his right hand whilst he opened his palm on the left hand in a nonchalant kinda way, then made a fist and coughed loudly.Naturally I didn't bite, Jilly and I walked into the foyer which was like stepping back in time, Jesus wept, I have to say, I doubt if there are many such places left in the world today, this is reminiscent of a bygone era!! Piano player tickling the keys of the Steinway in the foyer, all the waiters and the Matre de in red waistcoats and tails, five waiters to a table. Glass of Dom Perignon, mandatory of course. Choice of 20 different teas, ranging from Orange Pekoe to Darjeerling Premier and all points between. Floral arrangements must have cost a kings ransom------bet you never had sandwiches like these-----three inches by one, each cut exactly to size, twelve in all until one of the waiters brought another twelve, hot scones and strawberry jam with clotted Devon cream, and six pattisierre Francais to die for. Actors and politicians dotted here and there----probably one of the world's most opulent eating houses in the world today----bordering "Obscene"!
Everybody in the world should take tea at the ritz just once in their life, put it right at the top of your TO DO list.

cracked on well with the Rotary, decided to try and cobble a half tidy OMC gear case myself. Cavitation plate came out well-----bad news is, the gorilla wood glue I imported from the USA let go in spite of being clamped in the vice for 48 hours.

Just a " Progress" piccy to prove I'm not telling porkies. Took a couple of hours out to stick another plank clear across the back of the shed (Studio). filled it immediately with ten lumps that I did earlier. Must have a garage sale or an accidental on purpose studio fire.
Lawn mower has been relegated to the lean to, just to keep it out of the weather.
Would you believe there's over fifty chunks of stuff I made in the shed, I am banned from putting any more pieces in the house , utility room or conservatoire!
