Mercury racing 360 hp NA v8

Chaz = thinkin, I'm so cornfruzed right now ... :p

I checked my backside .. it's not chapped , chaffed or rashed .

I checked my memory bank , why yes , I have ridden in a "porkchop" powered boat .

I checked my power , weight , cubic inch , calculator . A screw blown 280 inche motor by nature should produce more nuts than 189 naturally asperated inchs. I'll even bet a 377 inch screw blown motor should have more nuts than a 280 inch screw blown motor.

I'm wunderin , how many here on S+F plan on buyin a 40' MTI (or comparable ) in 2021 .. Don't rush up , form two lines please .. :rolleyes:

I'm wunderin , if "60 whatever hundred RPM" goes 122 (like the better runnin boats ten feet shorter ran at lotto , and 100 more RPM picked up 10 or 12 more .. lets call it 132 does than mean a nudder hunnert will go 142 , then 152 , 162 .. or will it find even more each step as it goes faster ... two salesman in the boat and no radar = :icon_bs:

Bass Pro Shops .. isn't that like Wal-Mart ... Huhh , who knew that they were a authorized mercury "racing dealership" .. ????

So Mercury , or bowling ball manufacture , whoever they are , sell's decal packages that say racing on them .. See, I beginning to understand.... :)

Opppsssss , I'm lost again .. they now built an actual racing motor for the first time in nearly two decades .. what was their hurry ???

I get it now ... Mercury , an American company , is now building an engineering exercise that came from their most brilliant minds , using the latest mfg. techniques. To no , not be sold in the United States , but to mostly Islamic controlled states, that race in a Chinese owned series ... :(

Sealed motors .. It's the IROC series , circa 1995 all over again .. :o

If nothing else , they took a page out of the NHRA Top/ Alky classes.
Injected Nitro OK .
Roots blower's only .
Two teams get the Injected cars flying, no more CH3NO2 .
PSI and Whipple screw blowers OK
No more screw blowers.
Whipple screws OK
Injected Nitro OK
No more Whipple screws

Hey , we finally got the rules that are fair for everybody .. how come we got no more cars left in the class .. Dumb ****'s cost teams 15,000.00 to 20,000.00 with each stroke of the pen .. they broke some really good racers .. really quick.

How boat the teams that are gonna find it hard to find sponsor money for 2021. Spiffed the hull up , a couple complete motors , spare parts to hand a couple more power heads together .. ready to race ... Nope

This is great news .. new motor , gonna need a new boat. Prob should get a spare, hard to get one .. the big money teams are buyin a half a dozen for each driver .. Same for the motors .. what you only think you'll need one .. cuz it goes on the limiter early and runs on 7-11 gas and a 44 oz. slurpy ... Pppfffttttt race much ??

If you are like me , and won't pay 62,000.00 for an outboard motor , just wait out one season .. you'll be able to buy them for $9,000.00 dollars at all Kin Ping Chow Chinese take out's .. :p

I'm so excited for next year .. I can hardly wait ... Yawnnnn

That was the last paragraph , so ya got most of it. I wouldn't blame the beer , it's cuz your too close to Kookafornia , the sickness is movin east. ;) Spend some vacation time (whatever that is anymore :o ) east of the Mississippi .. and it will go away .. LOL
I need to follow my own advise and come to Texas for the winter .. couple months our roads will be clogged with license plates that the prefix letters start with "youz'awl" and "ehh" :leaving: :D

They actually attach the racing decals to the cowlings as well, and then sell the engine with decals as a package. And they do some minimal other changes to the engine designs as well, like porting and compression and intakes and stuff.

That's been the way they have doing it for as long as I can remember. If you have ever seen a 2.0 or 2.4 or 2.5 liter race engine up close, you have probably noticed that it has striking similarities to the fishing engine of the same displacement. Like bore and stroke and geometry and stuff.

The 3 liter V6 platform (which was a cost-reduced, larger displacement platform) and the Verado platform (which was a first effort at a 200+ hp 4-stroke platform, targeting offshore fishing boats) did not lend themselves to building race engines with the decals-based approach you have correctly identified.

Engine technology and advancment never ceases to amaze me. Just think about it, in a mere 3 decades since evenrude introduced the first v8 powered f1 engine, mercury has managed to increase displacement by 1.1 litres, decreases hp by 50, and change the weight by???. I leave the weight with question marks because a real world honest weight by mercury is NLA. And I can't readily find one for the antique v8.

Honestly this place makes me scratch my head sometimes. Wheres Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda with the F1 motors? They don't even make motors to compete with the 300R and 450R. Why doesn't OMC get back in the F1 scene....I mean BRP.....I mean.....oh wait......

Merc couldn't come out with a new 2-stroke race motor even if they wanted to, our lovely governments have made sure of that. Why don't we take the gift they have just given the racing world and run with it? Are we all really that stubborn?

That's not going to happen. Take a look at the mid section cutaway graphic. See what the overdrive did to the location of the water pump and and the vertical shaft length? Couldn't tell from the graphics if the IV was studs "down" or "up". I'm betting on "down".

Remember when motocross transitioned from 2 stroke to 4 stroke? Same deal.

I predict that everyone will be running electric outboards at some point and there will be a certain segment of the group still looking to buy the elusive two stroke oil and evinrude pistons for daily use.

Model Ts were great but I sure am glad that we don't depend on them anymore-the shiny stuff is so much easier and the heat, A/C, and automatic transmissions are a lot nicer (but there is still those old die hards in the nursing home that swear the Model T was less expensive and better) fact is very few products aside from hammers are not replaced in the market via. improvements and efficiency.

The old stuff is cool but inefficient compared to modern day technology and they call it VINTAGE. As we get old we tend to like old stuff and that is the natural progression of life as we enter vintage clubs for our hobby and attempt to relive our past. All I can say is that its "all good", "all fun" and I have a couple vintage projects with boats, motorcycles, and snowmobiles that I could no way afford back when they were new but I wanted so badly. Now there are groups of old people like me that get together, attempt to make old things "like new", and enjoy things we couldn't when they were first introduced.

Bottom line is don't try and stop or belittle progression (it won't stop and you are wasting energy)-just enjoy what you like and be happy-you can still attend vintage races and see the "best ever" live and in action.

Actually the $62K pricetag is reasonable for what it is. Never new for sure but the OMC V8's were "leased" by 2nd Effort and not really owned. But in 1985 I heard about something near $55K. If you compare 1985 $$$$ to 2020 $$$$ it's kind of a bargain? Another way to look at it is why does Merc 20hp kicker motor go for $3K but a 200hp ProXS goes for $16K?

There's no one on the planet with more laps than him in this product, and he has some good things to say about it. I'm doubtful he'd go on camera if he didn't believe in it.

I enjoy the smell and sounds of 2-strokes on drag boats and tunnel boats, but didn't you scratch your head (if you watched the video) when you saw the tunnel boat and heard a V-8? I'll never be able to afford one, but I'm certainly intrigued.

There's a lot of people that think they can do better than Mercury Racing (all ya gotta do is...), but I've seen none of them step up.

Interesting. Supposedly a bolt on replacement with different overdrive gear sets available to tune the package to the teams existing prop selection. Apparently the increase in weight isn't enough to upset the handling too bad...

For $17,000 you can do 240 MPH, fits in any garage. Supercharged
