Mercury and some drivers complained about OMC not building enough 2 liter engines for the 2 liter class...
Well..as a big fan of the UIM OE/F3, APBA Mod 50 class..why did Merc only raced this 3 cylinder engine a few times and only built very few..??
My guess is..this Merc powerhead was still not good enough to beat the OMC 3 cyl.

Info about the engine above by John Tiger
I remember this one. It's a Frankenmotor for sure. Don't remember the block particulars, but it had 2 Mercury V6 carburetors bolted to a fabbed-up intake, that CCC exhaust housing, mated to a noseconed V4 gearcase. From what Jeff (Baker) said, the porting was pretty aggressive. I remember sitting at the race this photo was taken (somewhere in FL) with Ron (Jeff's dad) and joking about how, with all those mods, the boat and the boats it was racing against didn't seem any faster than stock JP boats--to which Ron laughed and agreed, said "maybe 74-75 tops".
John Tiger's V4.

1976 was the first year OMC built racing engines for the UIM OE/F3 & APBA Mod 50 class available for drivers to purchase.
A very nice design with racing mid section/gearcase. Built in powertrim and lift.
The Evinrude was named CC and the Johnson RS.
They where coming out pretty late during the 1976 race season. A few was ready for the UIM OE class World Championship in Auronzo, Italy 28/29 August. I raced my first CC in Amsterdam 3 Hours and an RS in Paris 6 Hours same year.
OMC did build two or maybe three OE race engines in 1975. I raced the Evinrude & Roger Jenkins the Johnson as factory drivers. Roger won the UIM OE World title with is Johnson.
None was sold...http://svera.se/blogg/racing-historier/lars-mega-crash-at-the-omc-factory-1975/

Isn't that the exhaust developed by Ray Nydahl?
Came out 1976 by OMC and was used up to 1988 when the 31 engine replaced it.
