Absolutely ridiculous ——- i can have a 30mph 3” wheel scooter that will do APROX 10 miles on a single charge. Most lethal form of transport on the planet !!!!!!!
Was a day — best part of a century ago, when i would have had a lot of fun with a thing like that—now i would very likely “soil my knickers”.
Hi Jackie, I am truly sorry to hear of your mobility problem. How far away is your boot sale and re- cycling venue?..
The 4 wheel variant of scooters available now have good range on them..
Shoot I could even send a COSWORTH sticker to pin on the back.
...glad i could help jackie. you need anything else just let me know...https://th.bing.com/th/id/OIP.5SBRUk...pid=ImgDetMain
So sorry to hear Jackie, we never know the future, but you have had one GREAT past with many happy memories,
My 96-year-old Mother-in-law was told the same thing 25 years ago, and somehow it disappeared. ;)
I sure hope it's just a scare. My 79-year-old brother has had his share of issues, but his wife has just been diagnosed with serious
Problems herself and is impossible to live with, he told me he can't sleep, so I got him some Medical marijuana edibles, and he said
it's helping, What ever works,
Good luck
Wish you would re-phrase that to “AM HAVING “one great life. !!!!!One and only time i ever hit the weed was at Halifax Technical College in 1946——-puked my ring up all afternoon !!!!!!!!!!! Worst feeling i ever had— fell into the whirling pit and couldn’t climb out !!!!!
I have always backed away when i came to the WACKY BACCY EVER SINCE!
”MEDICAL MARIJUANA EDIBLES” ——-sounds like a plan—-as you say whatever works !!
Under stress, one dwells and can't let go, so no sleep...
I'm a dog guy, so If I have something eating at me and I can't sleep, I force myself to think about enjoying my dog's company ...
For you thinking about great races in the past or some happy times ...
But if you dwell on unpleasant situations, It's like Cancer eating away,
Yes easier said than done, but everything Is that way;)
Peace, Love and Happyness
Did you smoke cigarettes? at the time you first tested Grass?
I was in not a pot smoker, but when I was with the boys in high school and college, party I would take a puff here
and there but never cared about it at all, I was not a regular cigarette smoker but same thing I would have one here and there, party
time...
So I'm in high school at my friend's very nice older brother apt, I had a cig in the car before arriving and they light this big joint,
I ended up puking in front of the fish tank in his living room, and never invited over again:reddevil:
I can't tolerate nicotine, so If I did both together It never worked out. I'm hyper naturally.
!!!!!!
So we are not so very different !!!!!!! No , i wasnt a smoker until i left home at 20 years old —-never in front my parents.
Was heavily into Motorcycles when i was 17 which left no money for cigarettes [First bike was a 1938 650Triumph Twin , next four bikes were all TRIUMPH— 1949 SPEED TWIN——-1950 650 THUNDERBIRD—- 500 TIGER 100—— THEN A 1938 MG.TC. IN RED .]
Didn’t Have much time for girls then either—- best looking girl in the village was SHEILA NAYLOR —-but she simply could not ride pillion worth a damn, so she got the big E!!!!!
Sister Brenda was nowhere near as good looking but was the worlds best passenger [i married her for 38 years and we had 5 kids].
Yorkshire is my home county and a bunch of us 10/15 would take off crack-o-sparrer, every Sunday to explore every inch of it, [still the most beautiful county in England !!!!!! GOD SIMPLY MADE IT AND FORGET IT.]. But all thats for another time—- just pointing out the fact that THERE BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD ???????????
Daughter Sam [and Clive] have been at their Florida house for the last month, it’s right on the inter coastal, with a 50’ dock.
They are Back today after Christmas and new year in Stuart Fl.
Used to visit them at the beach house in Elmer every friday when i had a licence !!!!! Taxi is£20-00 each way, so i wont be doing that every week !!!!
Hard coming to terms with not being able to just jump into the trusty Lexus and go wherever and whenever the hell i felt like it——-huge chunk of my freedom taken a hike !!!!!!!!!!
When i was down in Key West , a character i had never met before asked if i would do a NETFLIX interview on how the F1 COSWORTH came about. Thought about it for a couple days ??? Decided it would be ok, !!!
Lady director, —-camera man ——clapperboard clanger guy——and another couple [ all to do an interview i could have done on my iPhone 8].
Took a good half hour or so and the guy was a friend of Gary’s so we did the interview in the “POTHOLE HEROES”pit.
HUSKI were backwards in coming forwards with the necessary dinero it takes to run a class one offshore tunnel so it was no where near as hectic as it usually is when there was only one boat to look after instead of the usual two and personnel.
That was the start of a nice easy friendship !!!!!!!
Just goes to show —-even coming up 92 you can still make new friends.
Will tell you a little about my new found friend as time goes by——-interesting to say the least.
Wasn’t a big pot smoker back in my day either but I probably hauled a couple of tons of it neither out of Columbia or Jamaica back in the day. As for motorcycles, Jackie, I started with an Allstate moped 50 cc then a Vespa, 125 cc an NSU 150 cc those were my first road bikes probably before 17. Got the motocross started out with an old Harley sprint but knobby tires on it then started buying serious dirt bikes pretty much Bull tacos 125s 1 75s 250s 360s. Later on became a CZ dealer For Miami and then opened up Suzuki shop later on in 1974 with a partner and a lot of fun on motorcycles. But the day I do walk with a limp best always amberjack
There was me thinking you were born with an impediment Charlie when all the time it was a self inflicted wound !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Couple of tons Huh???????——— thats a shed load of stardust !!!!!!!!!
One could say you led a colourful life—- some would say you were a bit of a twat— others will be deeply envious ———-some would be sad !!!!!!
Who the hell are we to judge Charlie ???????
It probably seemed like a good idea at the time !!!!!!!
Jesus wept Charlie i could write another book about my teenage years but i have no idea of how long “THE STATUTE “ lasts.
In England in the 50/60’s there were two kinds of motorcyclists—-“MODS” AND “ROCKERS”.
Mods had mopeds and scooters —Vespas and Lambrettas [usually Italian]. dressed in beatle like clobber from Carnaby Street and were a bit ‘SOFT’ !!!!!! That is until you got into a bundle with them !!!!!!!!!!
Then there were the big boys —-“US”. We had big boys bikes —-Vincents —triumphs and Nortons dressed in tight jeans and leather jackets “ROCKERS” WE WERE JUST THE DOGS CAJONES — HARD AS NAILS ——-INDEFATIGABLE!!!!!!!
I came across a pic. of that Molinari with the twins!wondered if you recall the top speed of the Molinari with the v8's and quickies! Just thought of all the people who might have that knowledge , it would be you, even you're best guestimate I would consider close to gospel.
no I havn't finished the guitar yet, it's still resting on the stand with a big gold chain around it's neck joint! well I figured since you guys were discussing joints! haven't checked in for a while but so happy to see you're still a ramblin rose! Happy new year!
Lassie is forever banging on about the twin JONRUDE rig, he will probably know by heart the top speed which i would guess would be around 132.345 mph!!!!!!!!!
Was agreed by the factories that from !971 they would only use singe motors. OMC then brought out the Molinari with a couple of three litre [OZ} for the WORLD OZ CHAMPIONSHIPS [ held in italy]
Boat had a good top end but didnt turn worth a lick——SEEBOLD and BENTZ with some very dubious managerial instructions from Garbrecht ran rings round RM.
All sorts of ridiculous claims were made but i think the V8’s would run pretty close to 140/50 on a good day —downhill and with a tail wind.
Garbrecht and Bedford DAVEY with the Record Hydro Karelson and an all singing and dancing motor ——propped to high heaven ——in a straight line ——could only manage 168mph . So talk of 160 with a tunnel in race trim was just hot air!!!!!!!
Often wondered if you ever finished the guitar ???? But it is nice to hear from you again.

Not from the garden, but a quid a bunch [9] thats only £2-00 for te lot —— Marks and Sparks in Chichester yesterday.
In the late 80's testing with G.G. on lake Hamilton at S.E. I ran 142mph on radar gun with a V-6. My F-1 V-8 would run the high 140's. My Merc champ boat ran 138mph on radar in 1990. Just a bit of info
Sounds about right to me —— around what i would expect —- no substitute for cubes —— four litres will always have more grunt than two.
Organisers and promotors have a habit of stretching the truth—-eg i remember the 100 mph lap at Bristol ??????? To achieve that you would have to be doing some 150 mph on the short straights .
Do not doubt for a minute same thing happened with the V8’s. !!!!!!!!
I was close to the 100 mph at Bristol with my Hodges, but not quite. You're right about the V-8 boats not turning like the ON boats, the first time I tried to turn one hard it switched ends and I was facing oncoming traffic.
Close enough is only good enough in Horse shoes and Hand grenades ——it took a long time before i squeezed a 100mph out of a Hodges !!!!!!!
123+ mph out of the Cosworth— that was in 1978 [before the advent of the V8]
No way could anyone pull a long prop at Bristol ——-was always a compromise —— needed acceleration more than top end§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§
We were testing at 120+ in 1973 with the rotary. And you might recall the 2 rotaries were leading a 7l hydro that had been clocked at 140 at Parker in March of '73.[/QUOTE
what you are actually saying Johnno is nobody clocked the Rotories ???? But it did lead a hydro that had been timed at 140 mph ?????? Certainly was nothing in the outboard world even beginning to do those speeds in 1973 !!!!!!!
This was back in the time when some people still thought running an inboard hydroplane designed for 5 mile heat racing in a multi hour endurance race might be a good idea?
Jackie: I was in Fl. when we were testing the rotary for the first time prior to Parker.. As I recall Jimbo was running 117 to 121 MPH in testing, Thats when the V-4 racing engine was running 100 MPH on the same boat. That's a fact Jack, not a made up want-a-be.
Yup I was there as we were prepping for the intro at the Miami Marine Stdiumpress introduction for the rotary. Two rotaries Two V-4’s. The best that I could ever see with the club gear case was mid 80’s, some said 90’s but I never believed it. I know with the 1:1 I could run 105 as that is what my speedometer max was & I buried the needle at 105 blowing over.
Only the factory stuff was running around 100 in 1970— a long way short of 121 ??????????? With full tunnels there was still a lot of even good drivers blowing over!!!!!!
Advent of the pickle did allow faster speeds.
Do not ever remember a Rotory. On a pickle of any sort ???????????
Here's one for you, Paris 1974. Woods passing Seabold's T-3 for the umpteenthAttachment 528974 time.
February, 1973 Jimbo testing the rotary for the first time on a black and white full face narrow Scotti, 15/17 gearcase. 117/121 MPH. Later that month Rick McKinley driving a dual engine Molinari with a single rotary for endurance testing. Ran 10 hr at 108/115 MPH. Also full face. He blew it over during the testing.
John: I wasn't at the setup for the Miami intro. Do you recall the speeds the rotaries were running? Jimbo had a slotted Scotti and Posey had a full front. Both had a ton of paint to showcase the rotaries. They both had 15/17 gearcases as that's all we had for the rotary till Provo.
Honestly John, don’t recall. Most of the test time was devoted to getting the exhaust hole large enough so the rotaries would start in the water . We also did several starts all even $ some staggered. I got scolded by Leek for outrunning the rotaries to the turn buoy for jumping the start and got to the buoy too soon. I don’t actually remember anyone doing speed runs as it was just a dress rehersal for the press show. My boat was the same as Jimbos. It was the same boat we took to Parker where I finished 3rd with Bill Muncey as my co driver
Have not the faintest idea of just what the hell went on with S+F end of the week “IT FROZE” my kids think i may have been too rude ??????? Me, i very much doubt it !!!!!!
There is a “RESTORE AUTO-SAVED CONTENT !!!!!!! ——-
BUT YOU CANT !!!!! Only half of it and it’s the wrong bloody half anyway !!!!!! SEI LA VIE !!!!!!
BIG swing in temperature today —— from weeks of snow —- ice and frost . We now have fifty degrees —- gale force winds and rain——- jolly hockey sticks .
92 next week —- do i feel any different—-yes — a hell of a lot older !!!!!!!!
Been far too cold to spend any time in SUPERSHED ——- did try a couple of times , but lost all feeling in my hands , so i gave it up as a bad job !!!!!!!
Also lost a lot of interest in anything I fernagle anymore . Just dont seem to get a buzz out of anything ..
S
I understand the cold fingers stuff, getting old sucks! my old hands give me grief now anything less than 5C. I actually bought some electric gloves and tried them out walking the dog, wow that's nice! havn't had any severe cold here at all lowest we had so far was -16c which is hot compared to what some other regions received! burned up about $50 propane last week getting my shop warm enough to dig into the polaris and figure out why my pyrometer jumped to 1500 on the last ride home and first time out this season! going to be up near 0 today so i might pull it out and give it a little test run to see if I actually fixed it or just wasted some days,$$ and propane!
I hear you about not getting much interest happening in projects, got lots of stuff i could do,but it seems mechanical stuff is getting old for me and i kinda like fixing stuff in the house now! havn't put my boat or dock in the water 7 yrs! seems i like to sit on the porch and yell get off my lawn a lot, but it's mostly to geese that even the dog is too lazy to chase now!
Attachment 529219One of the reasons following my inactivity is a trip through the bowels of the nhs. I’m on the mend, with some luck I should hope to be return in no time.
