Evinrude CCC/Johnson RS V-6 Race Engine Facts.
1976 OMC released the new V6 CCC. This was a 2.448 liter cross-flow engine and was based on the production powerhead with the same 2.448 liters. (Renato Molinari and Bob Hering drove this engine to victory in Parker 9 hours 1977.)
1978 OMC introduced the brand new purpose-built 3 liter “looper” V6 with fuel injection. This engine was also called CCC but a completely different animal from the first CCC. (Cees van der Velden won the Paris 6 hour race with this engine. 1979. Beating the Merc T4.)
1981 OMC introduced the baddest of them all in - the new purpose-built 3.5 liter V8 looper. No..it was not two more cylinders on top of the 3 liter V6 powerhead - then it would have been a 4 liter. The V8 was 3.5 liters.

The picture above shows the 3 liter V6 looper. This CCC V6 used a special engine cover. The CCC cross-flow used a production type engine cover.

Always fun to get "stuff" from my Canadian friend Mark Rotharmel. This is one of Bob Spaldings Velden/Carlsberg OMC shipped from Europe to Canada. Mark raced this boat ones in Canada with a Johnson RS V6 cross-flow. Mark is a master of getting boat racing headlines in Canadian media.

Thanks again Mark
Hi Lars,
Just saw your post with Bob Spalding’s Velden. Interestingly, one of Bob’s red Carlsberg boats was shipped to OMC Canada in-or-around 1980. I had left Mercury and joined OMC’s Canadian Team. Spencer Dunn drove this particular boat in 1981 when I was driving my blue offset-cockpit Molinari / Evinrude CCC (previously raced by Renato with a 3-Litre and shipped to Jimbo who tested (and maybe raced it once) before being sent to me. Ultimately, I ended up driving this particular Velden just once - in the photo you see here. It arrived with Bob’s number #1 one it.. so OMC added another one to make it #11 (my CBF number). An article was published in 1983 that profiled our sport. This was the centre-fold.
Please say hello to Carina for me.
Cheers,
Mark
