Gotta love a cracker! Originally conceived as a waterski tow boat in CA shortly after WW2 by returning GI's. An outgrowth of the hot rod craze by the same ex GI's.
...yes, which morphed into the "SK" class of wood & glass race boats that were hugely popular in the sixties & seventies...
Several times, I have seen Crackers run in Long Beach. And these short flat-bottom boats beat the *#x^ out of the driver and passenger.
BTW this course is not Long Beach, CA. Apparently it is a makeup race for the cancellation race at Long Beach. Because of the previous year fatal-race-accident (PS Class driver) at Long Beach. Therefore, the City of Long Beach cancelled hosting the following year's annual race.

The aforementioned fatality at Long Beach was the late Greg Duff.
Super nice guy. In our first meeting he approached me in the pits.
And started a cordial conversation. Thinking of you Greg.
Here is Greg in action ... definitely flying.

It's amazing how much tech goes into those GP sail boats not to mention the speeds. By far has to be the biggest thing in boat racing.
The GP sailboats cannot exceed the speed of the wind propelling them, correct?
"The Sail GP boats, which cost about $4 million each, are identical.
Larry Ellison (billionaire), a two-time America’s Cup winner and the founder of Oracle, is the majority owner of SailGP. Ellison also owns seven of the teams, Coutts said."

The Sail GP boats are traveling up to 3 times the speed of wind during certain wing angles on the boat.
The correct wing angle and with the lift/suction of the low-pressure side of the wing propels the boat more.
Faster than the wind speed.

Wow! Thanks!
That's impressive. So, what speeds are normally maintained during this type racing?
Sail GP - Top speed in the best of conditions is 60 mph.
Impressive when you do not have to buy fuel.
