Christmas Day breakfast. We always start the day with smoked salmon and bubbly, have done for years. Its part of the tradition of Christmas.
Had a great evening with Lizzie Christmas Eve, only night of the year she goes to bed willingly, she know KRIS KRINGLE is a very old friend of mine and calls me every day so she’s always on her best behaviour.
All the kids in the neighbourhood were out on their new contraptions[mostly electric power] we live in a circular close built around a huge green —all the kids were out racing long before the sun -up on new contraptions.
Turkey lunch and trimmings at Lizzie’s place —KINGS SPEECH—- plum duff and custard. Finish off the port. Drop off to sleep in an easy chair.
2nd day of festivities —- big eats and drink, Evening in front of the “TELLY” and then just BOXING DAY to contend with ?????????
Merry Christmas everybody. Covid finally caught up with my wife and I. We are both ok now but I had a pretty tough time for a few days.
Yesterday our Granddaughter informed us we will be Great Grandparents in June. Best present in a long time.

Remember i told you my daughter BOO [Tracy] named her second child CASEY-AFTEr CEES VAN DER VELDEN. [BOO could name you every driver on the European racing calendar ]. She could tell you first five drivers at any time in the Paris Six Hours. She was a powerboating freak all her life.
Those are CASEY’S five kids with me on the couch today . Winnie and Betty are the two youngest of my fifteen great grandchildren . Boxing Day lunch 2022.

Only reason china hasn’t flexed it’s muscles yet is the threat of a trade embargo. China makes a large slice of everything the rest of the world uses. Needs all the outlets it can get. Punches far above its weight and has bought so much property in the civilised world that it can be classed as OBSCENE !!!!!
Then there’s the Middle East !!!!! Place where most of the fossil fuels come from.
Relatively poor place that became mega rich and developed into a major player and again bought into everything from sport to medicine and worldwide property !!!! SMART MOVE.
Meanwhile -back at the ranch — things kinda slipped a little while we were on the phone or iPad . Governments screwed up ——under the guise of COVID, we lost the plot . I think the world was conned ??????

Started the new year with a wriggle . Almost ready for a final round of clean up.
i do have this stupid habit of looking at things at a car boot sale thinking , if i spend a couple of hours on that i can make a handsome profit !!!!!
All started when i reached the ridiculous conclusion that i would DOWNSIZE. You know what i mean, anything i hadn’t used for six months or a machine i no longer used i would sell.
Soon had a healthy bank balance and didnt have to ask her who shall be obeyed for a weekly allowance any more !!!!!
Independence is a wonderful thing, once you get a shilling or three in your pocket and a quid or six in the bank , you start to get ambitious , tools get to be more “UP-MARKET”. Far better quality —- FESTOOL instead of BLACK AND DECKER. ——- Bi-Metal blades instead of Carbon—— aircraft quality aluminium instead of any old junk.
Hells teeth —me myself have even got a tad better at what i do . I make a better class of concept than i used to .
i now have a waiting time for people wanting my stuff — plus i seem to be able to get a half decent price for it .
Another side benefit is the fact that folk walk into SUPERSHED and then walk out with a concept i have had on the shelf for ages.
All the BUGGATTI’S— the BUGGERBANGS and a few more have all gone —although i do still have CHITTY-CHITTY bang-bang , plus a few SILVER GHOSTS left.

One of the things that really pisses me off is my safety glasses . I have half a dozen pairs dotted about the shop but quite often i can’t even find a single pair —blasted leprechauns think its funny to hide them . I know i haven’t misplaced them —or forgotten where i put them —so it can only be the little bastards !!!!!!!!
Been working all weekend on a box of Victorian croquet mallets — BALLS and Hoops and a medieval thatchers axe . [ well, that’s what I advertised them as !!!!!!
Don’t do new year res any more —- never could keep up with HIGH HOPES —so it’s best simply not to bother with them.

Well—the croquet set went out the door at a very respectable price — had a couple of £25 offers for the medieval axe — managed to ward’ em all off . Should be gone by morning .

in my day—when i was a lot younger and you got paid for the days you worked ONLY, if Christmas Eve fell on a friday, we sometimes knocked off work around noon —- repaired to the pub with your mates for an hour. Then went home and put up the tree. Kids were in bed early due to the fact KRIS KRINGLE would be calling sometime during the night.
Always had a turkey [or a capon, depending on how much we had left to spend] then went for a walk after lunch. Didn’t matter what day was BOXING DAY — we went back to work the day after[or you didnt get paid !!!]
Have-no idea when having New Year’s Day off became fashionable. I never had the time to take that particular day off.
times change i suppose , pregnant fathers get time off [for what].
Thing called TRANSGENDER crept in —-girls became boys and vicky-verde —— then there’s the INBETWEENERS !!!!!!! What the hell are they anyway ??????

After the OFF meeting at MARK”S place in November, and the subsequent week spent down at Key West with the HUSKI race team. It became abundantly clear that there were far more POKER-RUN boats that there were RACEBOATS .
I sold the majority of the concepts i had made during that time exhibiting on the WILSON CUSTOM MARINE stand.
Strange thing was , the number of owners of multi outboard high speed craft asked if i could do concepts of their boats.
Getting six modern outboard concepts on the back of an all metal tunnel boat to look about right is a daunting task and well above my pay grade , consequently i have never bothered to even attempt it. Recently i began to mull over the idea and finally decided to have a crack at it .
Have selected the stock—- just need the phoggie of the boat i intend to build the concept from. !!!!
What else am i going to do with my time anyway ????????
Gear cases are no longer the problem they once were ——- i have enough props to do two or three rigs —outboards change shape all the time . Decals and livery will be a problem, but if i can get ‘em looking close enough to the real thing , then the power of “AUTO-SUGGESTION” just might be enough.
given myself till the end of January or my 91st birthday to see if i can manage the first one . I will know whether or not there will be a second one.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT THAT IT WAS COMPILED BY MEL HANNAN . She spent over five years. collating all the old notes and sheets that were scattered around Red’s office . Result is SEARACE , as we know it. !!!!!!!
Funny thing is ——THERE IS NO MENTION OF THIS FACT —-ANYWHERE !!!!!!!![as far as i can see]

Found a beautiful set of four JACQUES OF LONDON croquet mallets.
Problem was finding the rest of the equipment to create a workable base .
After a year of searching, i finally found enough kit to make up two full sets of equipment.
Again no one in the world makes a stand for a full croquet set any more ——- so i did one . Took me two days . Must be getting slow and old !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
