Tricks that old racers get up to after retirement

Oh well, don't look like many farmers read this thread------can't blame 'em really-----would have thought it was better than shovelling pig and chicken sh-t on a wet Wednesday morning, no doubt Lassie would not agree!
Had a mad fit of depression this morning and had a sneaky peek at "FACTS ON LARGER ENGINES" ----he's still whinging about how OMC nearly made a competitive 2 litre -------well Lassie------ there's a very old, oft used adage------CLOSE ENOUGH, IS ONLY GOOD ENOUGH, IN HORSHOES AND HAND GRENADES.
I have to stop getting into it with fellow scribes, after all -----I had a choice of which motor I raced ?
Enough of all this----the workshop and an unfinished trailer beckons, y'all have a nice day.

I thought the OMC 2.0 had the score on the board then they put it away?

Now then Pilgrim------behave thyself--------you have been told oft enough, OMC do not make "Race Engines !!! Only FISHING engines-----------let's forget the Rotory----the 2 litre looper-----the most successful 850 race engine of all time--------the 4 litre V8 ???? Of course you don't make race engines, well, not for thirty years or more anyway.

That damned five wheel trailer is taking longer than I thought it would. It does look the dogs cajones though, finished three of the wheels, then ran out of time.
Its already Thursday again tomorrow -------time flies when your having fun. Be bloody lucky to get this last concept even on the trailer, let alone finished by the weekend.
No doubt about it, I'm slowing down, in every department, neck, back, legs, all giving me gyp, I need a full service--------badly !

There are those amongst us who think the 850 cc (E class in Europe) was the best class ever--------of course I disagree strongly with their misguided views-------whilst it was a very good class, large numbers of contestants, very quick for the size of boat and motor, economical, with reliable motors.
It also produced some great drivers--------Lassie Strom, Tony Williams, Roger Jenkins, Michael Werner, Mark Wilson, to name just a few.
In my opinion, the best racing class ever was the 2 litre (ON class in Europe and the USA) I may be a tad biased, but the F1 class racing today is a direct descendant of FONDA , over thirty years on !

Well, I had a good day, beavered away like a good 'un-------me myself was well chuffed with the day's effort. End of the day------I moved forward-------but no, I didn't finish the project. Damn, but that thing does look good--------if I ever say I'm going to do a trailer ever again------chuck me in the village pond or the local whore house! I know which I prefer !

im taking the morning off tomorrow to visit my oldest living friend, Adam Laszczar, he's a couple of years younger than me and we've been friends for over sixty years, I told you before, when he was seven years old the Germans shot his mother and father -------him and his brother walked from Warsaw to Delhi with just a catapult as a weapon.

For me Pilgrim-----it's simply my GUT feeling, plus the fact that there aren't many OE boats running today ( anywhere in the world).
Just about enough F1 boats running in the USA to make up a series--------same thing in the rest of the world including Australia.
As Keith Duckworth always said--------you have to run to a given formula, uncontrolled , the sport will die !
He always thought you should give them ten gallons of fuel for fifty laps of a one mile course and see what the engineers came up with ?

Went to a F1 race in Gulfport Fl in April and would have to say "I'm hooked"! I would have to attend other classes of tunnel boat races to make a comparison... just what I'm plannin! BTW I sponsor an outboard drag boat and raced kneel downs when I was very young....so I am familar with boat racing.

Both, we had carbs ----- mostly three in the early days, Alex came up with another three------then along came injection and "management systems" !

Today's Formula 1 racing has nothing to do with the old ON class.
More the OZ class because it's 2.5 liter engines and not 2.0 liter.
Not even Mercury wants to build a 2 liter race engine anymore.
On top of that its a spec. engine. You are not allowed to modify stuff like exhaust and more.
Drivers get disqualified if they do.
No other brand than Merc is allowed in today's UIM F1 racing.

The oz class died completely when OMC went tits up-----There was no where for San Germano and Cees to go except to get the FONDA series that had been running successfully for years. The UIM lost a shed load of income when the V8 programme was scrapped, Rolf Frohling ( UIM commandatore) was in bed with San Germano--------there was so much backhanded dealing between them, you could not have written the script.
I started FONDA on my own for the benefit of independent drivers-------it took off immediately and was galloping along like a runaway train-------Parkinson came on board and brought Mercury with him.
We had more countries wanting us to put on a race than we could cope with.
Moving back to your daft comment on Formula 1 having nothing to do with the old ON class, how the hell can you get so misguided Lassie ?
OZ IS UNLIMITED------it has NO FORMULA , you can run 2/10 motors on the same hull ( as Renato proved when he ran a pair of engines against Seebold and Bentz ).
At least the present day Formula 1 has a Formula, it might be 2:5 litres but it's controlled.
V8 motors used to go up in capacity whenever GG felt like it ? What was the final size of a V8 ? Four and a half litres ?
Dont recollect OMC ever allowing Mercs in their series------I do remember law suits and lawyers waving papers that said only JONRUDES may race here, but I guess that's an American thing!
Sorry to tell you Lassie----- but it was only big bucks that kept the V8 series alive------the minute OMC died, so did the V8 racing !
Both Parkinson and myself felt it was time to walk away from Fonda-----we were getting old and tired of fighting a bent UIM---------Nicola San Germano and Cees Van Der Velden took over control of FONDA -------but then you knew that didn't you Lassie ?

Me myself have nearly 400,000 hits-------don't have any ambitions any more, I just enjoy spouting off, telling anyone who's interested about the tricks this old racer gets up to in his dotage.
Fujimo will be at the 500,000 mark long before you Lassie, but WILLABEE is over 600,000 and heading for the million---------but what the hell thats got to do with the price of Avgas in Tucumcari I can't quite fathom out!
