Imagination + creativity + fabrication = product formula.
&
“Lucky Sperm”.
I think we all can attest, with a limited bankroll, we have devised a homemade tool and/or part. Which is commendable, because we used the product formula.
However, “he is lucky sperm.” This is what a visiting businessman use to tell me about the son of a business owner. At a former place where I worked for years, this business visitor, would relish repeating that the subsequent owner of their company, was going to be owned by the founder’s son.
I believe most of us, including me, have been fortunate in receiving a nominal (some more than others) opportunities/benefits/support from our fathers or other family members. So those given much more, are expected to achieve more. And good for them to prosper. I personally respect all human levels of achievements, regardless of their bank account. (Which encompasses humble beginnings like; Henry Ford, Oprah, JK Rowling, & Sam Walton, to those closer to the lucky sperm influence like; Elon Musk, Bill Gates, & Zuckerberg).
Nobody ever left me anything—- i never wanted or wished to be given anything. Only exception to this is the £412 -30p that my father left me when he died of a hernia infection aged 90. some twenty years ago.
Learned the hard way[only way in my opinion] never to rely on anyone for anything—-so i never have .
However, Jackie, albeit your children have benefited from your business success. And learned from you, their dad, what tenacity and perseverance will accomplish.
only time i ever heard those two words used together was in a letter of commendation i received from JACQUE and CYRIL BENSTEAD [COMMODORE AND SECRETARY OF THE LMBRC] AFTER WINNING THE THREE HOUR REGENT GOLD CUP. 1966.
They always had a one and a half hour race for all the boats that didnt make the GRAND PRIX.
CHARLIE SHEPPARD was the CARNITI DISTRIBUTER. He asked me to drive the new 55 twin cylinder in the main event and the 40 twin in the supporting event .
I ran well in both events , but the last lap after the finishing flag— the 55 CARNITI chucked the flywheel through the plastic hood and it spun all the way up to the clubhouse steps .
I was awarded the 2nd place in the one and a half hour race and 1st place in the big race —was always over 150 boats entered in the BOAT BUILDERS TRIALS.
Letter i received after the event said i showed —SKILL—TENACITY AND PERSEVERANCE.
So i have to confess ROY , your post brought back memories of some great times i had in the powerboat world .
PS Charlie bought me the best pram money could buy as my youngest daughter Sam had just been born two days earlier.
Pulled all three GARBRECHT / BEDFORD DAVIE RECORD BOAT out from under the bench in an effort to get them ready for the off meet.
been promised the graphics for MERTS record hydro and the OMC effort .
less than a month till the OFF ——- bit disappointed the two SIROIS WOMEN aren’t coming —- GENE and FRED haven’t said they are coming either but BRETT MAY is just thinking about it —— Jim HUnt will probably be a lasst minute entry.
Cant really see the BOYDS not coming —-think they attended most of the meetings since 2011.
Tell you what —There‘ s. been a shed load of effort gone into getting this together .
trying to make it the best ever OFF event .
Just dawned on me Roy—- your names not on the list of invites to OFF either —-so i am officially inviting you, most food is paid for . You just have to find a bed . Sorry my friend — was simply an oversight on my part .

Nearly got the HOGWARTS trunk filled ——just shy of 50 kilos -100lbs—- reason for this is ther only a couple of wooden toys —rest are solid metal. Those at OFF get first dibs —- rest will go down to KEY WEST.
DO NOT KNOW WHERE I CAME ACROSS THE UPSIDE DOWN CAMERA ???????

For some strange reason —as well as turning all my PHOGGIES either upside down —arse backwards or sideways S+F, THEN make em „“UNAVAILABLE“ —just for good measure .
Can any of you whizz pictureographers tell me what the hell is going on !!!!!!!
i am not normally a stupid person——i do not fool about with the i phone when i take a snap —i try to do most horizontal [which is what my granddaughter CASEY said i should do] and sometimes i do it with the said device held in an upright position !!!!!!!! I never turn the camera upside down — so why do the damn phoggies come out upside down and arse backwards ?????? JUST ASKING !!!!!

Had some blood tests yesterday [feckin insurance companies insist] wont be long before i’m
completely dried out and running on CC7!!!!!!
Always thought FOSTER BROOKS had died —- happy to tell you he‘s alive and well and practising to be a gravedigger at Saint Richards hospital Chichester.
He went out into the hallway —- left the double doors open —— needle in both hands and started his run up ——- SHEEEEEIT——MISSED THE VIEN ——— but i do have great kaliedescope of blue and yellows with touches of pink aound the edges .
Sorry ‚bout that — those damn hard to find little suckers almost disappear completely when you approach a hunnard. And he loaded up the needle for a replay .
Well-as you might guess -im not too enamoured by his antics and told him politely that in all my90years of giving bloods —never ever had they had to try twice . Suppose he was a tad pissed at me — he rammed the aforesaid device into my arm with such force , it came out the other side [just above the elbow —-or so it felt] Result of this little exercise is a REMBRANDT arm —- look closely and you can see THE LAUGHING CAVALIER !!!!!!!!
I now walk around with my cashmere sleeve rolled up past the elbow —simply to show off my war wounds. Word „“ASSEHOLE „“ has been on my mind a lot today
LOL Veins are like cops. Never around when you need them. Was using my DeWalt cordless cutoff saw the other day to cut steel tubing. One piece took a fall and hit the back of my hand. Ouch! Thought nothing of it and kept on cutting. next thing I know there's a river of blood running over my beautiful yellow DeWalt tool! Hit a vein on the back side of my hand. Messed up my shop like a murder movie. 3 stitches later and wearing a nitrile glove for a week. Thought for sure the ER could fix with a steristrip and Superglue? By the way, SuperGlue and medical grade glue are identical except for set rates. Standard Superglue sets fast and will burn a little but in a pinch you can use it. Turns out that standard Superglue made its first appearance for wound repair by medical units in the Vietnam war.
Been doing stuff like that for years —- if you get a baddie anywhere on the hands and wrists slap some superglue on it and shove your hand into a large rubber glove ——then get to the hospital.
Hells teeth —-ROBIN in the A+E at BOGNER REGIS HOSPITAL are on first name terms.
Only went and did it again —dropped one of my concept mounts on to my right foot —same damn foot i dropped a concept on two months ago. How stupid is that ——-early indications are a chipped bone and a limp !!!!!!
Sheeeit and corruption —- here’s me getting USA prepared and i go do something so bloody stupid.
Just been into Chichester Centre for my fifth Covid 19 jab— this is the booster again jab for the over whatever’s to survive much longer than we might have done if we hadn’t had a jab in the first place [if you get what i mean]. Only really had it done so US border control don’t refuse me entry, due to the fact i wasn‘t jabbed up to date.
Trunk full of goodies is just about up to maximum capacity [100 lbs]. Individually wrapped and then swathed in blankets for extra protection . Most of them are solid metal apart from the three old SWITZER WINGS. JUST WAITING TO SEE IF I GET THE GRAPHICS FOR THE MACH ONE AND A MAN CALLED MERT.
just another three weeks and a bit and i will be with a select band of old farts for two days at the OFF meeting —- Then down to KEY WEST for a few days in the fast lane .!!!!!!!!!!
...you land in west palm jackie, or miami, orlando?...
Dean Martin has had a few encounters with the likes of people like Foster Brooks.

Got into a kinda swop for what you got deal with a few traders at the car boot sale —- hilarious time —still have no idea of how i wound up with a GOLD ROLEX DAYTONA . I am light quite a few concepts including a couple of rollers —two offshore and a circuit concept . So—it cost a couple of grand in concepts —-what the hell it’s thirty years since i lost my SUBMARINER and the insurance company decided not to pay me . Life is for living , but i am not a gambler by the longest stretch of imagination —- i work too hard for the cash that i have to gamble it away !!!!!!
Yes i have been warned about all the hokey Rolex‘s that are floating about —did all the checks i possibly could before diving in —- my decision so i went along with it .
You are with an illustrious group of Gold Rolex owners.
Like … Dan Gurney ’62, Phil Hill ’64, Ken Miles ’64 & “65,
Mark Donohue ’69, Mario Andretti & Jacky Ickx ’72,
Bobby Rahal ’81, AJ Foyt ’83, AJ & Al Unser ’85,
Derek Bell & Al Unser Jr ’86 & ’87, and Martin Brundle ’88.
However, those guys got their Gold watches the grueling way, by winning the 24 Hours of Daytona.

I GOT MY FIRST ROLEX IN LUGANO IN 1970— sold a lot of product and had a very successful year racing. Phil ROLLA took me to his local entrepreneur who had the ROLEX franchise and the ROLLEI camera dealership . I bought a Rolex submariner — and a small ROLLEI camera . Both were well under £100 .
Next Rolex i acquired was a gold and steel ROLEX DATEJUST in the early 80‘s - i did a swop with a BMW 1200 bike [ one of the nicest bikes i ever owned and took $600 off him to boot ]
Swopped that for a 1962 TRIUMPH 650 THUNDERBIRD with 16 miles on the clock. Which i sold to a Suzuki works driver from NEW ZEALAND . [damned if i can remember his name ] — he started the national motor cycle museum over there . I turned down £3,500 for that bike from P.J. AGG. Who was one of this countries greatest collectors of everything .

Just been finalising the last couple of concepts before i lock up the trunk and send it to Palm City in time for the OFF gathering ——there‘s something for everyone in there .
Then i got distracted as i thought of a great idea for a super-duper Garbrecht/Davie record boat. Won‘t get it finished in time to stick in the trunk which is full to capacity anyway— will post some piccies if and when it progresses towards fruition !!!!!!!!!
None of the side effects from the fifth PFIZER covid jab —- had a sore arm yesterday and a thumping headache but 24 hours later I’m jest Fine and Dandy.!!!!!
Must be simply that the MODERNA vaccine didn‘t suit my metabolism . Glad i only had the one . So i have had all five covid jabs —— just hope i dont get anyone trying to kiss me —i would probably kill ‚em stone dead.
...did not get one single shot. can't believe i'm still here...

Dinner with Sam and Clive and sister Ange at Billy and TIms favourite Italian restaurant . Damned good food but i always enjoy all the pre-dinner big eats first —— the flat hot garlic bread and the ANTIPASTO plate ====shrimp and sausage and cured Parma ham ———then we had dinner.
