The US Department of Energy has found the University of Michigan's ceramic ion conductivity breakthrough so promising, that it fronted it with nearly $11 million for a new research hub. There, the four-year grant will be used to develop solid-state EV batteries using ceramic instead of lithium ions.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has granted US$10.9 million to University of Michigan (U-M) researchers to explore the viability of ceramic ions as alternative to lithium in future solid-state EV batteries. The university has long been researching the use of a solid ceramic electrolyte instead of the flammable liquid ones that current EV batteries employ.
The recent discovery of ceramic ion conductors that simultaneously exhibit unprecedented performance and stability has the potential to change the electrochemical energy storage technology landscape... Our new center seeks to bridge fundamental knowledge gaps related to mechano-chemistry with a diverse group of researchers who come from disparate fields of study.
Whoever masters the safer, cheaper solid-state battery technology that can theoretically double the energy density of lithium batteries, will win the multibillion race for electric vehicle and energy storage systems, hence the early government investment in the promising ceramic ion tech:
- Graphite can hold only one lithium ion for every six carbon atoms, giving it a specific capacity of approximately 350 milliampere hours per gram (mAh/g.) The lithium metal in a solid state battery has a specific capacity of 3,800 mAh/g. Current lithium ion batteries max out with a total energy density around 600 watt-hours per liter (Wh/L) at the cell level. In principal, solid-state batteries can reach 1,200 Wh/L.
- To solve lithium metal’s combustion problem, U-M engineers created a ceramic layer that stabilizes the surface—keeping dendrites from forming and preventing fires. It allows batteries to harness the benefits of lithium metal—energy density and high-conductivity—without the dangers of fires or degradation over time.
Another professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan, Neil Dasgupta, who will be the deputy director of the DOE's MUSIC hub, says there is now the practical phase to be carried out:However, critical barriers remain before widespread commercialization can be realized - many of which center around the unique mechanical properties that emerge at solid-solid interfaces in electrochemical cells. An overarching goal of MUSIC is to reveal the fundamental mechanisms of how mechanical stresses and strains interact with electrochemistry, which will inform future efforts to scale-up and accelerate commercialization of next-generation energy storage technology. The DOE-sponsored research center will also aim to find the cheapest solid-state battery manufacturing method as well as explore how lithium or sodium metal chemistries with ceramic ion conductors lose their charging capacity over time compared to current Li-ion technology in cars, phones, or laptops.

once green power exists hydrogen will make batteries look like old tech
Battery's or hydrogen the elefant in the room is the where is the power coming from!
We are going to need nuclear, Fission or Fusion windmills and solar panels are not going to do it
If you are truly wurried about your carbon footprint stop buying or using stuff
This means you don't generate emisions or pollutions
The next best thing is reducing your energy needs insulate your home's so you need less energy to heat or cool it
Buy used stuff and keep it running with used parts!
Dumpster diving was not frowned upon before "planned obsoleceance"
People made due with second hand cloths, parts and furniture
Buy stuff because you need it not because you want it
And yes i need a 1992 epoxy/kevlar skater 24 with atleast one second engine over 20 years old
Last year in total used 400 liters of fuel on this boat buying porkchops engines will dramaticly increase my instant emisions value but will give lower pollutions in the water offcourse so the time will come if they build the engine i want or have to do it myself
Put biodegradable injection oil in an Opti or Etec and your total environmental pollution will probably be less than a new four stroke... when you count used oil disposal.
(It seems the current biodegradable four-stroke oils turn to sludge pretty fast. )
Tesla owner says he had to cancel Christmas plans because car would not charge in freezing weather
"Two hours went by and not much changed," Nati told the outlet. "It was very slow and the numbers got lower as the temperature dropped. Eventually, it stopped charging altogether."

Teslas pre-condition their batteries ( in other words, warm them up ) before allowing the charge to begin
if you're driving cross-country and wish to sleep in your Tesla , you can keep the heat on all nite or keep the a/c on all nite while in "Camp-mode" (depending on the season of the year)
Enjoy!

Toyota Sienna , another electrified vehicle (hybrid) , will keep you warm all nite while camping out in -2*F temps, engine starts and stops only to charge the on-board batteries
If it's summertime and you wish to camp in your Sienna, same deal, the car will keep you cool all nite using up only .5 gallon of fuel over an 8 hour period , the engine starts and stop only to keep the batteries charged
Enjoy

Well it's abundantly clear who the Pro~China / **** America .. ahh, eh-hem, members are .. May you drink and bathe in :
1. Cathode material: Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4/LFP); Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (LiNiMnCoO2 powder, include NMC811,NCM622,NMC 532,NMC111); Lithium Cobalt Oxide (LCO); Lithium Manganese Oxide (LMO); Organic solvent Methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP); Binder polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF); Alumium foil etc.
2. Anode material: Battery Graphite (include artificial type and natural type);Mesophase Carbon Micro Beads (MCMB); Lithium Titanate powder (LTO); Solvent Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR); Organic Polymer Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC); Petroleum Coke; Carbon Fiber; Pyrolytic Resin Carbon, Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE); Copper foil etc.
3. Other material: Battery electrolyte, such as LiPF6; Battery separator, PP and PE membrane; Lithium Metal Chips/Foil/Ingot; Hard Carbon (Irregular type and spherical type); Aluminum laminated film for pouch cell cases making; Nickel Strip/foil; Teflon tape; High temperature tape; Battery Strapping Tape for pouch cell etc.
Polluted water, till your doctor says .. humm, must be something you ate or contracted thru your skin ...
If I was traveling cross country. I would go when it wasn't -20* below ..
But OK , so I get caught in the "twilight zone" .. :o
I wouldn't drive a POS golf cart .. I'd drive my motorhome. It has a dash heater, central heating and I guess if push came to shove ... I could light the oven, and fill the pots and pans full of hot water .. And no, I wouldn't even think about the $10 or $20 dollars in fuel .. all those things cumulatively would burn .. Why ? Cuz thats what it's there for .. for us to use ..
@ 20 below .. look at the chart. You wouldn't be going cross country, you'd be going cross town before looking for "another" charging station.
While other families are hooked to the two chargers on the property .. over night to keep warm .. you'd be wondering how to turn off the battery warmers before they kill the battery's completely.
Sorry to be a buzz~kill when it comes to the left-wing utopian dream. But the facts are .. everyone says "how great it's gonna be" . Maybe so, maybe not .. but for now it's just another "if my aunt was my uncle story" . Seems like no matter how much of our (tax payer) money they throw away on pork project's (no relation) , the wheel will always be a wheel and a battery will always be a battery.
I just read the instructions on a new multi unit charger Santa brought me .. ( tryin to keep up with forkin) :D
Look what it sez .... Ohh ya just can't make this dumb **** up ... :p

The nice thing about the Toyota Sienna Hybrid is that this same Hybrid system can be found in all of Toyota's Hybrid system. Thus if you don't want to spend 35K on the Sienna LE , you can buy a Corolla Hybrid for $22K and still travel through freezing temps or hot weather very comfortably inside Toyota Hybrids (as seen in Youtube demos)
