Never again do i want to spend another night in the A & E department of an English hospital.

These places are no place to be on any day. First responders and hospital staff have nerves of steel. With Britains paying over $125 to fill their tanks, I'm surprised that Silverstone GP did not degrade into a full scale riot. Noticed that the Finnish GP was cancelled due to lack of funds. It’s a commission—- going to the Lowes†oft and Oulton Broad Racing club which just happens to be the oldest boat racing club in the world still in existence.
Bob Spalding first introduced me to it in the 60’s . I would pack up the camper —hook up the boat —load up the kids and away we would go.
Spalding and Percival—-Frankie Holmes, Peter Sabberton. Neil gregg [nelly]- Phil Stacey—Doug Wiley. Toby Sutton. And loads more who’s names i have long forgotten. Blonde haired Kid i could never remember his name John ???? [always had Bob and Toms old tunnel boats]
All the kids would just go off together for the day—- never had a care or a worry about them — must have been over a dozen playing together . Fifty years on those same kids grew up and had kids of their own but still remain firm friends to this day.
But thats the way it has always been in the powerboat world .
Thing i remember most is the way we all looked out for each other —— no matter what it was . Spare parts ——can of fuel—— look after then babe—— if a boat flipped , it was all hands to the pumps—everyone mucked in. Next heat wouldnt start until we had him back in the line up. It’s just the way we were —​ MEMORIES AND THE WAY THINGS WERE ????????

I haven’t been totally idle through the last few weeks —— these are the last pair of concepts i FERNAGLED . One is for Jason Mantripp of the laobrc in Lowestoft —- t’other was for an old racer but i think he’s either copped his clogs or changed his mind .
Upshot of all this —-FAST ON WATER have said they will have the finished trophy if the original guy doesn’t have it. There is a powerboat God after all.

Received a message from ARTHUR MOSTART which is kinda unusual . Last time i saw him was about five years ago in Tavares at the old farts meeting. He thanked me for his good luck in winning $200,000 . Asked him three questions only he would know the answer to. Sure enough he answered correctly. So i knew it was him .
he explained that the outfit told him he had won a chunk of cash [on my recommendation] with endorsements from BENNY ROBERTSON .
SO I TOLD HIM TO WAIT FOR THE CLINCHER ——ADMIN COSTS NEEDED TO BE PAID AND THEY WOULD NEED HIS CREDIT CARD NUMBER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now Arthur is not a stupid person and of course did not give out his credit card number —— so I’m giving you a heads up—- beware the scammers —its high season for them too.

Had a long talk with Mark today,, looks like him and CADDILAC are trying to put on an old farts meeting sometime late October. Just after Havasu and before the Fort Lauderdale boat show . Dont suppose it matters if its weekday anyway as then people that matter have long since retired .
Maybe a day at Marks shop —there’s plenty of parking and its an interesting place [im told]. I HAVENT even been there . A day at Caddies on the inter coastal RUN WHAT YA BRUNG if you like .
Then a day at Gary and Lou’s HUSKI workshop.
Ted could bring the wings —-Jim could take the tunnel—- old farts could just drink beer and lie about what we might have done . Plenty of room for Odell and Rich to put the RV’S
Just a thought at the moment —- but we can make it happen —- no ten thousand dollar fees to find . Just a few cases of beer and half a cow . And we got us an OFF MEET.

Today is the first time in two weeks i haven’t either puked or had a raging headache. Even had a good nights sleep last night .. gone onto some heavy weight medication , but its worth it to get some relief from the headaches.
worked myself up into a sweat just thinking about another OFF meeting along the lines we used to .
Early meets were just so informal —— especially the one where old man WARBY paid us a visit.
I am not knocking any of the past efforts by anyone —but the november meeting at Tavares was really an antique boat meeting more than an old farts get together . My own view is that it had kinda got lost along the way. Although the trip to Lake X was probably the most memorable OFF event.

Meanwhile my american grandkids and LOU and Kate are on a trip to see THE MOUSE in Orlando whilst Gary is over here WITH HIS LEICA for the greatest air show on earth at FAIRFORD .

The unfortunate thing for Boat Racing is there is no definitive historical race site in which "Past and Present Boat Racers" go annually. To reminiscence and support the sport of boat racing.

However other sports have their near-sacred venues.

Lowestoft is the oldest powerboat racing club still in existence and running races at weekends and every other thursday according to when high water is.
Seems like most other clubs have dropped by the wayside —there are still a handful of clubs still operating although none of them run the numbers they used to. Not even Lowestoft.
Just like its always been , its left to a dedicated few diehards to keep the sport alive .
No good moaning THERE’S NOT THE MONEY IT —there never was , well not for circle racing anyway.
Offshore was a totally different animal— even the participants were well heeled individuals who had access to big money. [ not all ] .
Even i could not begin to tell you where i would like to see an annual re-union of all boat racers take place !!!
Boat racers are everywhere and always have been . From all continents and all walks of life .
Australia—— japan——South Africa——Europe——north and South America——- boat racers dont come from any specific country or region . Just like trees —-they are everywhere .
Whilst the numbers have diminished -the passion for boat racing has not.
ADMIN HAS A LOT TO ANSWER FOR [ governing bodies ] Rules and regulations is what im talking about . When you can get 200+ entries for a florida poker run , yet only 3 or 4 for any class one offshore race —doesn’t it tell you something ?????
Mercury even make a line of RACING ENGINES. !!!!!!!! Seem to be lots of them on regular boats from Center consoles to bostons — all seem to want to be seen with a “RACE” engine [or six] on the transom.
Trick is —how do you get racers competing against each other again ????????

Jesus Jackie you expect a Florida swamp cracker like me to know anything about history how you got me going to the history books to figure out what you’re talking about all I got out of the battle of Agin court with some guy from the Armagnac region which is about the only thing from France other than cognac that I like to drink was involved in the battle. I can’t read pages and pages of history look at them And figure out things from Wikipedia every time you start showing off your educational capabilities OK so you beat the tar out of the frogs. How we do that up on Hallandale Beach every time theTourists from Montreal come down. By the way that’s one of my favoritesTourists from Montreal come down. Went there with the GN boats I can’t remember if it was 82 or three no my son was just a baby. Yes sir beautiful place those Canadians race hard especially enjoyed the 7 L hydros or Whatever they’re called now. I believe Tony Rodriguez from New York was up there that you’re also with his 7 L but again myMemory is fuzzy. All I can say is it seems like we went to the same high school in different years

I went there in ‘76 same time as the olympics were on in Montreal. Went with my best friend and mechanic Chas Shooter. We had to ship the boat and the camper van on a rag top forty foot container to Halifax Nova Scotia. Boat was the Hodges with a 2 Liter BDG . The only class the Committee would allow me to run in was the 7 Liter GP class . Took me a couple of heats to get the hang of things . In europe i ran as an outboard under the UIM rules . Valleyfield has its own rules .
i Had forty tons of water dumped on me in the first heat —— i learned quickly —— i could run with the 7 Liters but they had the top end on me on the straights —- last heat i sneaked in on the inside and held that position —i was good for two out of the three laps but JOE BONOMI
passed me five times on the straight. Think i finished fourth . Joe and i became good friends after that event. He was there with his wife and girls -invited us to his Bar-B-Que that night .
There were hundreds of racers partying —— where i was introduced to FLASHMANS and those BROWNIES with the chewy bit in the middle . Chas stripped off naked and rode the lady mayors bike down the Shute and into the pool. Theres a whole chapter in my book about the time at valleyfield .
But thats all in the book —— i really must sit down—take time out and finish it . im fairly sure i could sell a couple of hundred copies at a push .

BEEN WORKING ON THE BOOK for about three years now —- i read Brownies book [ Which he gave me for free] and thought i can do that!!!!! Plus —i know a lot more circuit racers than he does ——- i live in England whereas he only worked in England . So i do have a huge advantage .
ok —so i cant pull the same amount of crumpet he does, but ive had my fair share of adventures — i have little room for complaint.
problem is my memory is not what it was and just when i think thats it —-im done , when i think up another huge happening i had forgotten about .
Lets maybe see how it goes and do a sequal [[[ honest to god feckin correct spell just changed sequal to sexual]. EVEN I COULD NOT MAKE THIS SH-T UP !!!!!!!

Just learned the hard way — modern hybrids are a total piece of sh-t should the battery die. It gives a final blast on the alarm system before it shuts and locks all the doors immobilises everything including the rear door which is where the battery is conveniently situated . Of course if you cant open the doors manually [in spite of the key] then more nefarious and devious means must be turned to. During my misspent earlier life i learned how [in emergencies only of course] how to by - pass the usual locking systems and gain access to almost any vehicle therefore rendering it available for transport should the need ever arise .
So accessing the Trusty Lexus was not really that big of a problem , merely an inconvenience .
just realised the old girl is coming on 7 years old and 53,000 miles on the odometer . Which means of course the battery, which i had put on new is now five years old and out of warranty.
I will leave the booster on overnight, but unless i plug into the onboard management system there is no way i can tell just how heathy the YUASA is.
Life gets tedious don’t it ?????????
