Might be a silly question but here goes, how long do impellers last in those race boats in rough water? Do the boats have a holding tank to feed water pump?

This is just another part of the reason that a good throttleman is important. It doesn't just keep the blades on the propellers, the prop hubs from spinning, the propshaft splines from twisting, the propshafts from snapping off at the bearing carrier, the bearing carrier torque from expanding the gearcase housing, and the engines from over-revving and/or bouncing off the limiters... It also greatly improves impeller & impeller housing life. It gets the boat through a race anyways...Quote:
