Picked up an old Victorian gas lamp top at the scrapyard —- spent the weekend dismantling it and cleaning ten layers of 100 year old paint off it. Actually being paid to do this by a pair of antique dealers —- will show you a progress report next week.
Went to my grandson SIMONS 40th birthday party earlier tonight ——boy has music turned to crap since my day. Pair of automated turntables —DJ in headphones using an iPhone to produce the most head bashing disturbance and noise its ever been my misfortune to experience .
not by the longest stretch of imagination could it ever be called music . Now i do have a hell of an imagination — but shuffling and writhing to a head bashing cacophony is not my idea of fun. I was long gone before 9-00 pm.

Made some progress with the street light over the weekend . Long tedious progress cleaning up a hundred years of lead based paint . Have the top two tiers all shipshape and Bristol fashion. Bottom two will be a different kettle of fish . No access -short of dismantling the lead skirt [which is really. fragile]. Test to see if i have learned anything in 90 years.

Do have a very unenviable job to do tomorrow ——tidy up and remove all old paint without damaging lead trelliswork???????? Beat out the dents ——-fit all the new copper brackets i made — say the odd prayer or two and then polish to a high standard —-fit for a castle .

Art of making a traditional birthday cake has been lost . 70 years ago i was a awarded a City and Guilds certificate for icing a three tier wedding cake . I was 19 years old . Been attending the BOLTON ROYD BAKING SCHOOL for three years . One day a week— and two evenings . You had to do this to earn an „“APPRENTICESHIP“ . It did mean you could get a job anywhere if you were a BOLTON ROYD boy. This was 1951 and women had not yet started to be employed in the baking industry.
Saddens me to see the decline in icing skills replaced by the crap efforts of todays birthday cake offerings . A RECORD DECK AND 100 TEQUILA SHOTS ?????WTF IS THAT ALL ABOUT.
By the way —-its two more weeks before the clocks go back in England .
