Tricks that old racers get up to after retirement

you are trousering from the Irish Tourist Board...Fish suppers,,,Guinness all that sunshine stuff,empty roads I suppose any moment soon we'll hear
about walks along deserted beaches hand in hand with the bride.. the warm Atlantic lapping at yer toes!! and as for hair blowing in the wind weelll
we don't like to mention it but ummmm..


But we are Brits tell us 'bout deckchairs,pi**ing rain,ice cream all down the front of your best shirt.public toilets closed doe to "cuts"... ya know
British things....In the meantime please both continue to enjoy!!!!!

Attachment 300073View from bedroom window. Cat nap lasted two hours, really must have been cream crackered, think it's the heat, you don't often get temps of mid 80s in the British isles. Liquid intake is good though, have gotten to like a glass of Guinness with both lunch and dinner.
Doing "THE RING OF KERRY" today and tomorrow , the food is very similar to Maine and New England except more expensive, while the scenery is not like anywhere else I have ever been, it's a bit awesome------God made it and forgot it----where else would you find green mountains and leprechauns?
Came across a guy from Brum (Birmingham),he's been beachcombing for 25years and has the most interesting collection of driftwood and flotsam, he sells it by the lorry load and makes a damn good living.

Back to boating and tricks we used to get up to when I was a lad.
LMBRC used to organise a trip to Paris to watch the 6hours for its members, consequently we got to know a few of the French pilots. It was suggested we have an " Anglo French" competition each year, the French would bring a team of 10 or 12 boats of various classes and we would pick a team of similar boats. These matches were hugely successful and many a lifelong friendship was struck.
I tried to organise a similar deal with the US drivers in the late 70s, but it just never materialised.
Another casualty of the rift between the factories and bringing in uncontrolled capacities,.
People think I'm paranoid about OZ -----that's not so, I just want a formula, any formula will do, be it 2 litres-----2.5 litres-----3.0 litres------whatever, you have to put a lid on it, runaway formulas like OZ can never work or bring harmony to the sport, only argument and discontent.
There will always be someone who has a bag of gold going begging to fund unlimited as the fancy takes him, trick is ,to get universal agreement between participants. But I forget------this is boat racing,------it's out of control, too much legislation, safety rules gone out of all proportion, safety cells with requirements that do not warrant contemplating, I never did think the " dunk test" was mandatory.
In the end analysis , we have less boats, less drivers, less people willing to put up with the ridiculous price of going out and having fun racing.
No, I do not know what the answer is-------neither do the UIM-----the RYA or the APBA, they just think they know.

If only!!! 'Twas possible to get a little coinage out of the Irish Phil, the way they managed to milk EU.
Farmers here have a couple of acres and a pair of 500 hp. JOHN DEERES to keep the grass cut, there's no such thing as a "poor farmer" in Ireland any more. Guinness is still very cheap here as are most alcoholic bevvies . The Irish themselves are the friendliest people on the planet without a doubt-----I'm beginning to understand the rapid fire, lilting tones and strange brogue lingo that's practiced in this neck of the moods, but it's taking time.
Off out into the wide blue to explore more of this Emerald Isle -----amazing how much of the place is linked to the USA.
There was Irish mafia long before the Italians reached New York (according to stuff I read here).
A little cooler here today ---low 70s-----that'll be nice. Talk more tonight.
If England win tonight in Brazil there will be big celebrations, if not the English out there will be throwing themselves off a steep pavement in a mad mass suicide attempt ( silly buggers).

Boat racing dieing everywhere and all the racers complaining about their organisations not having a clue.
I still thinks its the, "we know what worked in the 70's so thats what we are going to do" syndrome.
As i do a bit of stuff on the dark side, i thknk sailing has some better management as the racers get to vote on rules for their own class not some elected officals.

Boat racers have always done their fair share of complaining-----only a select few ever buckle down and "give a little loving right back", most are content to take the money and run, bitch and moan, but won't stand up and be counted!!
Right said Fred, time to quit complaining, back to today. A much more civilised temp. Low 70s, still in shorts and T shirt and not in a lather, still admiring green mountains, emerald lochs and harbours , not a lot of puckwudgies to be seen, but you know the're there.
Did the hand in hand walk along the sands this morning around 7am, quite refreshing to say the least, bit chilly round the undercarriage but BRACING indeed!!!
Nearly empty roads here everywhere, not enough cars to have accidents, but there is zero tolerance on alcohol levels-----only Priests are exempt?
Maybe I'll take up religion after all!!!
One more night here and then on to Dingle for the last night------but there's the small matter of a soccer match with Uraguay to be sorted first. Nap time, talk tonight.

Dear oh dear, England lost to Uraguay albeit to a pair of offside goals from the old ear biting Suarez .Streets of Rio will be filled with the bodies of ex. English football fans who had a dram or two too many and drowned in their sorrows. Glad I'm not a passionate football fan. It's like my golf----play it but don't really matter if I win or lose, which really pisses Seebold off, specially when I'm his partner.

1. Some classes over here in the colonies are strictly run by racer vote...and that's worse than having the bureaucrats in charge. To me , one person with a vision, leverage and some marketing savvy, is worth a gross of well meaning 'useful idiots".

2. Regarding Ireland's Baltimore.....Sadly the wacky linguistics in Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern, NJ, and Deleware/Maryland have reduced two significant east coast US cities to "Fiweedefia", and "Bawtahmaw". Of course, the same phenomenon applies to "Bahstin" and "New Yawk Siddy".

1 Steady on there Rich, surely a mix of the two would be far more acceptable , Hitler had vision, leverage and a fair bit of clout------what good is a class if it has no input from drivers, how can one persons view be any good if it's not supported by those that compete.
ive seen first hand what it's like to have powerful " beurocrats " RUN the top classes-----IT STINKS and there's not a damn thing Joe Doakes can do about it. It kills the sport with its negative holier than thou attitude.

2. Man -----if you think you have a linguistic problem in Delaware, you should take a trip to County Kerry, Cork, and Killdare, very close in distance, but light years in brogue. Would take a lifetime to learn where the different lilts and accents came from. just go over the next mountain and it's different again.

I was gung-ho into whirlybirds at that time and had just gotten my pilots licence, so of course I was now a leading authority on all rotors---------all 40 hours of me. Den Stacey was an avid fixed wing pilot and lived and breathed, Pipers and Cessnas. (when he wasn't swinging golf clubs).
Did the London boat show for over 20years and the favourite meeting place was the "Guinness " stand.
When I was a lad and lived in Bradford, there were two greyhound stadiums, Greenfield, And City, there was dog racing every night of the week and two afternoons.
I used to watch speedway racing at Bradford Northerns Odsal Stadium on a Saturday night, that was long before girls came on the scene and ruined everything

Just had an email from Seebold------Lynne had a Stroke on Monday --------had operation to close a hole in her heart Tuesday-------comes out of hospital tomorrow .
That is one amazing lady, how the hell she has managed to survive with that cranky old bastard for so long is something none of us will ever understand.
A little prayer for Lynne wouldn't come amiss here my friends

Had crevettes in pastis to die for with a Guinness and a Jaimeson chaser, good grub or what, I ask you?
Got a full day sightseeing Saturday ----flight out is 20.00 hours----been a right royal trip, one to savour over the coming years. J.

Last day in Dingle was mighty, went chasing a dolphin who duly obliged and did a few twists and turns, but like me he is getting on a bit and doesn't do tail standing too often, very entertaining though. Will post a couple of piccies for you, hope you are suitably impressed.
