Steve Cheeseman was married to my eldest daughter Sandra.
He had two kids and a black and white collie called Sam. „“ Bootsie“. Employed Sam on the proviso that Steven would be his boatbuilder .
Sam was rescued from a farmer in Surrey who kept him tied to a post outside with no kennel.
Chris Hodges was with them at the time .
Strange are the connections found between people in the powerboating community. Just saying!!!

One of the best moments at the OFF meeting this year was to finally meet Jackie Wilson again.
We have had many disagreements over the years but it was so nice to give "Mr. Fonda 2 liter" a big hug.
He is still going very strong and always having a good sense of humor.
On top of that Jackie bought me a excellent dinner Friday night.
Thank you and see you next year Jackie.

John Surtees, in 1964 won the F1 world championship for Ferrari, becoming the only man in all of history, to this day, to win grand prix world championships on two wheels and four.

John Surtees became the lead Ferrari driver at the beginning of the Ford-Ferrari wars in 1964 and 1965. He was an international superstar, and a walking god in both Italy and in his home country of Great Britain, perhaps the only nation that rivaled Italy in passion for racing. In Italy, the fans and the press called Surtees Il Grande John.
“The highlight of my career was the moment that sparked it all, at 17, winning a relatively unimportant road race in Wales riding a Vincent which I largely built myself. It was the first time I felt man and machine came together. I’ll never forget the vibe I felt knowing I was part of the bike. Surtees was born the son of a motorcycle racer whose career had gotten side-tracked by World War II. At 15, young John started as an apprentice at the Vincent motorcycle factory and led a nomadic existence on weekends, racing bikes all over England. At 22, he was hired to race for the MV Agusta team, so he moved to Italy and started learning the language by watching spaghetti westerns. By 26, he’d won seven Grand Prix World Championships (four in the 500-cc and three in the 350-cc class). The first time he’d seen a Formula 1 car was when he stepped into one for a test. Soon after, he was summoned to Enzo Ferrari’s office in Maranello.
“I would like you to drive for us next year,” Ferrari said. “Formula 1, sports cars, and anything else we might decide to race. Here’s the contract.”
Surtees picked up on weird vibe in Enzo’s office. Photos of Ferrari drivers killed in the line of duty lined the walls. Death was routine in motor racing in the Fifties and Sixties, especially for the Ferrari team. Surtees knew that joining Ferrari would not only be a struggle to win championships; it would be a struggle for survival.
Surtees joined the team in 1963. One of the things he did was venture to America to gauge the Stateside racing scene. When he came back to Italy, he warned Ferrari that the Americans were going to come to Europe with their fast cars and massive displacement engines, and attempt to conquer the continent. “We cannot compete with the big engines being used in America,” Surtees told Enzo.

This is one of the six Wankels ever made by OMC i presume ——- we are taking about —- FAST FOR A LAP -THEN WENT FOR A CRAP. The ones that only ever won by default ??? When all the quick boys were wounded ??????
We have been friends for many years Lasse —- you just do piss me off sometimes with the incessant bleating on about a long since defunct product reproduced by a long since forgotten company which went belly up trying to match the Might and Muscle of Mercury which it never quite achieved .
I will take you up on that dinner though sometime in the near future — Compliments of the season Lasse .

For over 100 years WANKELS have promised much and delivered nothing. Every respectable automobile company in the world have tried and failed . That includes DAIMLER/BENZ—-ROLLS ROYCE —VOLKSWAGEN/AUDI—-GENERAL MOTORS . Mazda had a brief affair with the flawed design but eventually dropped it.
OMC made some bad decisions —— WANKEL was just another nail in the coffin.
I know there are rotaries that have run for years—- but most of them turn so slow there is no stress on any of the vulnerable bits .

Met BILL BROWN from COSWORTH ENGINEERING. He was a brilliant engineer but should never sit with a steering wheel in his hands. Together we put VENUS together and started to run with the factories . Rest is history.

OK—Monday -Monday —- Just Love That Day !!!!!!!!! Good nights sleep —-all bright eyed and bushy tailed and ready to argue the toss as my sainted mother used to say.

Four Wankel powered boats and two power heads —- [must have been everything they had] !!!!
There is a myth that they were light years ahead in performance which is just that “A MYTH”. They were quick—no doubt about that, but to be rapid they were grenades —- loose canons —- GIVE GUN—WILL BLOW !!!!!!!!!!!! But thats me being bitchy but truthful .
Was a race of attrition—— all the top runners [both factories ]except Mike and Tom died —— they did manage to finish— but only just —- after three hours racing the Wankel staggered across the finish line just six seconds in front of a two litre powered REGGIE Who was also struggling .
Was the only time a Wankel ever lasted three hours !!!!!!!
To the best of my knowledge the rotary never won a major event ——- apart from the staggering Windermere success —— when it staggered across the finish line!!!!!! But hey, a win is a win, anyway you can—- they deserved something after “THE INVASION OF WINDERMERE”
FYI: There were 5 rotary entries at Windemere in '73. Woods had a 6 min. lead after 2 hrs. over the infamous T-3 Merc's when he broke; that's almost 3 laps. Fact is none of the engines failed due to the rotary concept. They all broke the thru bolt that held the 2 crankshafts together. I later redesigned the cranks to eliminate this bolt and never had another failure.Quote:

I respect the fact you are probably the worlds leading authority on the rotory in its marine form Johnno. But i have an unshakable belief that there is a fundamental flaw in the design of the Wankel.
was always claimed that when space technology came -the rotory could call on new materials and solve the inherent problems. Just never happened though did it ?.
