Been wrapping and and packing stuff all morning---------that is just a tiny portion of the stuff heading for Tavares . Ted Boyds "Redwing" ---------Butlers "Lil Red" -----Pruetts triple trouble. If I ever get the pipes done------NGK-----one way or another ill get well clobbered for weight . Reckon I should be all packed in the next week or so
Made six of the nine pipes needed for triple trouble-------screwed three of them in the process, it's a learning curve !
came across a beautiful 1932 Alfa Romeo Zagato I bought last year-------there was an Aerofoil section in carbon fibre that Craig gave me last year----------just had to try and stitch a "Concept" together.
It will have to be a golf trophy, it's just cheating a tad too much to put my name to it. I will post a piccie in the next couple of days, see what you think.
Sotheby's are having an antique boat auction along with a GT Ford, a Ferrari Dino, half a dozen Molinari's-------if anyone's interested I'll post the thread ?

I think you will find most people killed in a cell was from the actual canopy failing which in most classes was/is not designed to take any impact.
The other was the deck/hull failure around the cell causing the cell to fail.
Whichever way you look at it Pilgrim------canopy, cell, hull, deck failure-------they are All still dead!Quote:

The Hodges Designed Safety Cell for all circuit tunnel boats, that was adopted by, Burgess, Seebold, Velden, Molinari and most of the tunnel boat builders was most certainly designed to take impact.
Hodges had done a lot of work with McLaren on the F1 safety cell and I'm fairly sure that they were built with "Impact" in mind. In fact, I would go so far as to say, the cell Was built to specifically absorb impact ?

See what hat I mean about cheating? . That Alpha is a thing of beauty! Will make a bloody fine "nearest the pin trophy, had to put a steadying ring on the base otherwise the damn thing kept falling over!
The canopy on a f1 tunnel will fall off if you kicked it.
Some designers are working on that but the rules dont seem tobe?
Italian f2 driver was killed due to this a couple of years ago.
Yes the cell is tough and has gotten better over the years.
Offshore guys have been killed due to failures all around them.
The designers seemed to forget that if its upsidedown at race speed the deck needs to be as strong as the hull.

What I can tell you Pilgrim with absolute certainty is------since the advent of capsules/safety cells, the fatalities in powerboat competition have been greatly reduced--------in the seventies, in one season, I lost seven very good friends-------all in tunnels without cells.
Its not a magic lifeline, but ask any driver, I bet there's not one out there who would dream of racing without one-------even though they're not perfect!
Yes I would agree they are great and have saved many lives but not perfect yet.
I see several builders like moore and dac have now realised the weak point and have solid screens and a lid on top.
Should have been like this years ago.

Look back at many tunnel boat accidents and the canopy has come of in the accident and I guess in most cases the fact that it was missing didnt effect the survival hence I guess it has been overlooked for far too long
The UIM and the APBA were pissing around with hinges and catches for years that you can open form both sides when they should have glued it all on and had a lid like some do now.
Read all the rules over the years, there has been zero strength required for the canopy.
Ok let's call time on our little discussion Pilgrim--------I know nothing of tensile strengths and G forces, only what common sense tells me, right now it's telling me to zip up.
Im too long in the tooth to learn and study the complete history of the capsule, plus I doubt I have the ability to adsorb it!,
Been a tad off colour since the eye test last week, stayed away from all machinery and driving. Sleeping longer and lethargy has crept in while I wasn't looking.
Only a couple of weeks until I leave for the USA -------have to stay alert and avoid accidents, sickness and headaches.
Saturday tomorrow -----forage time at the facility ------need some brass plate to make some sails. Did a couple of sets out of copper and stainless, both looked a bit bland until I got the paint pots out-----it's an outrageous move------just hope I get away with it. Show you sme pickies next week.

Well, the Ruskies waddled through the English Channel -------if the motor in my car smoked like that carrier did I would be desperately worried----------that thing was only on tickover, if they opened it up I can only imagine what the fall out might be--------a veritable floating mount Etna!
Royal navy had them covered at all times------don't doubt for a minute there was a nuclear sub somewhere close!
