Sure but when you have the same multiple failures that kill people, surely its time to do something?
The UIM know about the capsule lid thing but dont seem to be getting anywhere with it, they are thinking sliding lid like a WWII aircraft.
I saw a few sideways version so of that at a meet in the USA last year with a solid front, nice adaptation and that means the sideways opening can use the current attaching hardware, (which is piss weak IMHO)
Did you never notice before that there is NO FUNDING for this sort of thing, everyone beats the drum, but until you get another "HODGES" come along things will stay pretty much the same.
The UIM never was quick at moving forward when it came to dipping into their pocket to fund safety features.
Only time there's any spare cash is if they need to move offices from MONTE CARLO-----to wherever suits
We got "LUCKY" last time------after Percy was killed in Liege, Hodges took it upon himself to develop the safety cell as we know it today. He had been working with John Nicholson at McLaren on the composite driver cell which F1 adopted. He made his findings free for all to copy, did not patent any of his findings.
Unfortunately, I don't see anybody waiting in the wings ready to grasp the cudgel.
Its all in the comics ( record books) for those that doubt what I say.
Had a couple of very good friends came to visit today, so we all went to the "Fish Factory" for lunch, I had my usual a pint of John Courage best bitter and a large portion of moules ET frites,
(mussels and fries)----the others had Haddock and chips with mushy peas. Came back to the house for coffee and carrot cake. Nice n easy sort of day, a week today at this time, I will be landing in Orlando .
Still on the lookout for a spot welder if any of you out there got one, bring it to Tavares and we can haggle, KNACKERED again so I bade you all a fond goodnight and MYGGWY.J.
Countdown to OFF continues...Batteries are all charged up in Gold Dust and Dust'n the Wind.... Motor home is fueled and at the service shop for furnace and generator service.... Ready...set....
What you posted was "Lewis and Jenson are the only two of the current crop of drivers who don't have millionaires for parents or blue chip company sponsors, both come from working class backgrounds and were pulled up by their shirt tails. Ability and true grit with a dad that drove them beyond the limit at all levels of the sport is the reason for their success." which is just silly. The "only two" part. We don't have to go further than Vettel who has a similar history except he was signed up by the Red Bull young drivers program instead of the McLaren young drivers program. Although as near I know, his father didn't become a millionaire taking a cut of his kids paycheck. So that is different:smiletest:
If anyone has a spare omc f1 v8 cowl I need one...
I knew there were folks who hated the fact that Lewis got the McLaren deal, fact is he was 13 and had been winning races for7 years before then with just his dad. After 3 years he lost the McLaren deal----after he won in Macou against all the odds Whitmarsh asked him to come back. Yes pilgrim, he had it real easy-----so. Vettel never gave his dad a red cent huh! TYPICAL,
Couldn't really get into anything today------woke up to the first "whiteout"of the winter, looked very pretty but the 3rd sweater went on. Tried the workshop but my nuts were like a pawnbrokers sign, cold as charity.
Packed some of the golf trophies in the suitcase ------up to 21 kilos and I haven't even put a pair of knickers in yet. Good job I'm not a fancy dresser, should mix well with most of the old farts.
Next year, we'll run the golf tourney on the Friday -----we topped up with a dozen of us-----seems like most folk don't arrive until late Thursday night or early Friday, just tried to keep the Friday and Saturday clear for non golf business .
Must confess to a flutter of thrilliment ----and forward lookinment---don't get many of those to the pound these days. Might have to resort to lousy jokes to fill the pages as not much----or indeed very little occurred today.
Forecast for next week is a little rain followed be a lot of rain and then it's going to piss it down so I shall be quite content to leave our little island for a week or so and indulge in a little Florida sunshine.
Will take look at the morning papers before I do tomorrow's post---- just might be something worth commenting on so it's time to get into the py's and wish you all well,MYGGWY.J.
we forgot to talk about the spoiled brats of F1 that sulk when they are losing
Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso, come to the top of the list..
Andretti ----Senna-----Hakkinen-------Lauda, all hated to lose, but it didn't necessarily make them spoiled brats!
Been a funny old sort of day------just in limbo-----could finish the final packing in no time flat-----don't have any projects on------piss poor weather, all condusive to making jack a very dull boy indeed.
Craig and Gary and the rest of the Geiko team are down in Key West, taking in the delights of Duval. Mark followed 'em down on Tuesday ------he usually winds up straightening a few bent props. I could have been down there but Jilly insisted I stay home for her birthday this year and when her who shall be obeyed demands it---------well -------let's not go down that alley.
O/P's lawyers have filed for unfair sentencing and demanded an appeal against the verdict, 10 months being grossly unfair--------after all they were only little bullets!!! Would be fairer to give the judge 10 months for gross dereliction of duty.
Time for me nap----get back to you tonight,
At a loss what to tell you really except Mark rang and told me four of the big boys (who should have known better) decided to play "Dodgems" and after a couple hundred yards wiped each other out, jolly hockey sticks-----how to spend $1,000,000 without really trying.
Hope they all fared better today.
170 boats in the poker run I understand------call them what you will, they're there in numbers, and can create "clout" and somewhere in the mix is a whole load of cash-------that relates to power if it's channeled in the right direction.
You may not have heard of the whacky things that have been going on over here-----well known celebrities like Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris , Max Clifford and probably your local vicar to mention just a few have all been put in the pokey for various SEX offences going back over 50 years.
Guess what?? They all want their sentences reduced!!
Now the judge listened to Max Clifford's appeal and decided he'd been a right naughty nasty bastard, so he added time on for wasting the courts time. Seems we finally found a judge with a sense of humour.
Dont matter whether your Chapel,Church or Catholic, Protestant or presbitarian Iman or Rabbii, they've all got a taste for the nasty, naughty but nice side of life-----five will get you ten your local vicar has been up to a bit of hanky Panky in the vestry of late. Be nice to the father, priest or padre, tickle his fancy a little------for three Hail Marys and a back flip down the Isle------it's forgiveness of the sins.
Pisses me right off when the very people you turn to in the hour of need, turn round and use and abuse. I'm not turning to religion this week.
Lets get back to F1 ------you meet a better class of CRETIN there, but I wouldn't take them home to meet my sainted mother.
Hamilton got spanked in Friday practice----but we all know that don't count for much.
Am still of the opinion that Rosberg will win the final race in Dubai and Hamilton will have mysterious management system failure, so even if Lewis wins in Interlagos and Nico gets a DNF he will only be on a lead of 49 Points-------guess how many points are up for first place in the final?
Yup, you guessed right--------50. I should stop being a cynic and believe in the Easter Bunny, Mother Goose, and Father Christmas.
Well at least I didn't have to post one of my dreadful jokes------and thanks for taking the time to read my nonsenses------MYGGWY.J.
Nah!! He lost his Didgeridoo , blue.
Spot on------85 and still running the show, BERNIE is some sort of animal to still be in TOTAL control.
Lewis lost the plot again, hope he don't go all conservative and play the numbers game. It's all on the double points in Dubai anyway. Brazil don't really mean a thing.
Let me Koala be......Lee
Let me Koala be
Tan me hide when I'm dead fred
Tan me hide when I'm dead.
Next village to mine is Ford-----has England's largest "Open" prison, (Penitentiary, Pokey, whatever) expecting Rolf Harris any day soon.
Most of the non violent villains, politicians, actors, newspaper editors and embezzlers and similar offenders wind up doing porridge in there. Same village as Ford airfield market and car boot sale. It all happens in my neck of the woods dontcha know.
Still, only four more days and we'll all be together, seeing who caught the biggest fish, hit 100mph, sank the fastest pint, stroked the tightest asse, or told the biggest fib, it's what old boat racers do.
Cannot ever remember aF1 race of such total insignificance to anyone as the 2014 Brazilian G.P.
Thanks BERNIE ----you made a right pigs ear of that one.
Well, it's over and done ( the Brazilian GP) guess we just have to wait and see how BERNIE calls it in Dubai .
Just seen the Coca-Cola Christmas ad with Shnozzle and his" MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY," they always pull something out of the hat for Michaelmas ------this years no exception.
Heard sod all from Key West, not from Craig or Gary (who both work for Gieko ) or Mark, son number one----can't get the staff these days, so got nothing to report from the keys.
Rememberance Sunday here, no terrorist activities thank God, all went without a hitch.
Old Ken WARBY is having a right old moan about safety cell rules and specs, stipulated by the powers that be. Written and regulated by people who know sweet FA about our sport, but have got a total stranglehold on how things are done. Was it ever so.!(World water speed record@ S&F ) Well worth a peek.!
Going on midnight here and we got violent thunderstorms with sheet and fork lightening, heavy rain, fun on the roads tomorrow, lots of flash floods. ( nice to be retired sometimes)
Countdown is 3days to Tavares-----getting all of a quiver----so goodnight folks MYGGWY .J.
Sorry that I,m going to miss you guys but we are building a new house here in IL where my wife & I are the guardians for our 6 year old grandson. I did buy a place in Haines City & plan to be back down after the 1st of the year, but will really miss you guys at OFF. Have a great time as I'm sure you all will.
John: That's a shame...we were looking forward to seeing you as well.... I spoke to Lostumbo and he sends his regards...
Jackie: According to Lassie...He's not coming either. Seems like the OMC guys are bailing on us this year.....and I even went to the trouble of adding an Evinrude/Moli to my stable. Do you know if the Geico guys are coming?
In any event we are leaving this evening (Doreen has a dog show in Ocala on Wednesday). See you folks on Thursday for golf and chow.....
Travel safely my friend.
Pity Lassie won't be there Rich, I'll miss him, but it's his bad luck.
No R/J, no WILLABEE,no Schubert,-----look at this way Rich,----it leaves us more time to talk to the others!
Thought you were gonna keep the "Rude under Wraps".
Tell Doreen she won't win any rosettes if she's got you on the rostrum, a, you don't trot well, and b,the white goatee went out two years ago!
Leave crack-o-sparrow Wednesday, safe journey you two, see you Thursday .
We're in countdown mode for the trekto tavares.
Meanwhile Seebold has decided enough is enough, he has carried me far enough in the old farts tourney, so him and Mike have decided to join forces in a serious attempt to win some silverware .
Good news is Betty and Bill have decided on Fillet Mignon for the Barbie-----I promise you do not want to miss the golf tourney.
I am well and truly pissed at S&F ------started this soliloquy before dinner and kept going back to it, had an A4 sheet size post----hit the post button and it printed just the above mini paragraph, hope there's somebody in Tavares I can take a pop at. They still lost 1500 + posts I sent from France------I could have been a contender with 3,000, might have made me a " PEEPIN FREEKIN SCREEMIN DEEKON".
Got the eebie-jeebies from sitting around marking time-----not my style at all, so I started fernagling with a piece of acacia into a sail boat with 3/8" plexiglass sails made out of a surplus IKEA dining chair mounted it on a 6" x 3/4" circular glass base from the Hospice Charity shop-----stitched it all together, but it never quite made the grade, so, I carved another bigger sailboat out of Mahogony -----slotted a futuristic stainless sail onto it -----waxed it-----cut a matching mahogany base----and the rest will have to wait 'till after Tavares .
Jilly's birthday tomorrow, so taking her and a few family and her close friends for a swanky lunch at
the "HORSE GUARDS AT TILLINGTON" should cop a few brownie points for that!
Rich, I could not tell you how many of the GEICO team are coming, Craig is a definite, Gary cried off the golf tourney -----believe it's his wedding anniversary ----Louise does not take prisoners.
Rambled enough to save you all from a Shaggy dog tale, so all that's left is for me to wish you all a very pleasant evening and MAY YOUR GOD GO WITH YOU, J.
Attachment 309445Attachment 309446Attachment 309447
These are the sailboats I cobbled together this week, any resemblance between my bits and a real sailboat doesn't even come into the accidental category----they are nothing more than "concepts".
Took jilly and friends out for a "posh nosh" lunch--------got carried away in the shop from 8.30 am------suddenly my sister appears and says-----you in deep ka ka sunshine----it's 11.30 and you should not be out here----roll your R's -----get a wriggle on-----chop chop.
I never argue with my sister, she only speaks when it's absolutely necessary and I comply!
Was trying to put the two sailboats together in a hurry before "shutdown". Didn't quite make it, as you can see from the piccies.
Seems like only yesterday since I was saying two months to Tavares , and here we are nine hours before we leave for Gatwick----typical example of the mad dash that is LIFE. THRU LIFE.
Taking the iPad with me so I can keep in touch------if anyone is fool enough to want to do a FaceTime or email me , this is where you can get [email protected].
Too exited for sleep (can only be the thought of business class travel instead of "cattle class") but I have to put my head down so God bless all my very valuable friends (and Seebold) and MYGGWY.J.
Have a smooth flight over Jackie. Can't wait to hear of your exploits over here!
Dave
5am Dave-----slept well until 3 am, then got the fidgets, dawn's an hour yet, but minds been in overdrive for the last 2hours. Bags packed and Lexus is fuelled, have to be at SAMs house for 7.30 ---she's driving to Gatwick . Full of sleep sweat, stink like a baker on nights, better get showered and scented up, you meet a better class of knob head on BA First. See you tomorrow.J
Everybody should do this at least once in their life-------go past 2 Nd. -----third and cattle class, continue to Posh, hold nose as high as possible, look down left nostril , raise right hand and order Tattinger ------sip slowly from crystal flu, realize it's the real Mcoy. And swallow the rest in on gulp----then belch loudly------hells teeth, it's still only 8 30 am .
Morning old peeps and the rest of the world.
a beautiful Florida morning-----this is 6.30 am today watching the sun come up.
Time to stop the BULLSH- t today's the day of the the old farts golf tournament at Zellwood Station.
Bill and Betty got the food, Barbie and beer all ready for afterwards.
I get to meet mr. Fun and a bunch of my old buddies as well. Trophies arrived in many pieces, all of them broken, but a mornings work later----you won't hardly notice the difference.
Will post you tonight and tell you what a great success it all was, may you all have the sort of day me and my friends are going to have. J.
Well, it's over, at least my part of the Tavares weekend. After all the worry, it all ran like clockwork thanks to Bill and Betty.
Was a perfect day for golf, great company , and steaks to die for. Was turned 11pm before the last guests went home when I hit the sack and slept for the first time in a week. Just heading off to Tavares for breakfast with my son Mark and Vicky, grand kids Simon and Craig, daughter Sam and Clive, and the icing on the cake -----we whipped Seebolds asse -----big time-----even with Timmy as the secret weapon------he is in debt to me for the rest of his days. Gotta go , more later.
All that I have to do now is cough up $350 which is still short from the entry fee, so will auction off the model offshore boat at the " do" tonight------that should cover it!!!
Well bugger me if Odell didn't buy the model offshore boat for $500, all the costs for the bits and pieces I made including the cartage got covered. Now I know what people seem to like I can start on next years prizes for the 2015 OFF golf tournament.
Master of ceremonies was of course "Stavros Seeroy Sirois"------did a splendid job of the awards as usual.
Can tell you now, our friend "MR Fun" has a name--------Keith-----I was told his surname, but in true OFF tradition ------I forgot ------,he did fit right in there with the rest of us and I'm sure we'll see and hear lots more of him over the coming years.
Got to talk a little with "THE PREACHER MAN" for the first time ever------was enlightening and humbling to hear of the great job he does in the racing community. Like most racers, I don't do a lot of God bothering until I really need him, like at the start of a race I would always say a silent prayer that he look after me and keep me safe. At night-----again I say silent prayers for the well being of family and friends. I have cursed God for taking my daughter out of sequence with life, I still don't understand it nearly 20 years later and yes it still bloody well hurts, preacher man tries to help people like me-------thank you preacher------and just maybe, I helped preacher a little along the way,
isn't it great to just wander around Tavares and see the past at every turn-----to recognise a friend and walk up and get a handshake and a hug -----to instantly recall the past with a ------DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN WE ----------------etc------Does it get any better than this?...
The amount of effort ( and money) required must be enormous ---so thank you Geri and co, and the CBA for including the OFF in your event,
time to get up and greet another beautiful day in Tavares -----enjoy it peeps-----I'm going to.
Back in Stuart trying to take it all in------the event, the happenings, those that were there, those that weren't , the joy, and then the sadness, then the excitement ------it may seem like I'm rambling again , so I will try and put in print the wonderful weekend that is still happening so as to make you understand I have not lost the plot or all my marbles.
Stevie Pinson and me have been mates, buddies, competitors, call it what you will, just like an itch or a Molinari elbow------always there----so you tend to always take them for granted----comfortable,
years go by and you don't see each other then when you do it's like there was never a gap between, you just carry on the conversation where you left off years before, Anne has been married to Steve since for ever-----Dezi and Lucy, Adam and Eve, Steve and Anne, you know what I mean,I knew she had been poorly, that's why he couldn't make OFF last year, there he was standing by the tent when we said hi and he told me Anne had passed away last summer. Kick in the guts don't begin to describe it, you go through the motions, ------sorry------Mark was standing there and took over, I couldn't really take it all in-----I was just filled with sadness. So Steve, I wasn't ignoring you , or being rude, I just didn't know what the hell to say matey-----I am so sorry!
Three Wukin Switzer Fings going round together ------that hasn't been seen for the last forty years, how good is that! Thanks to Rich and Roger it happened in Tavares.
Have you noticed that the instructions for no hard running------plenty of distance between boats-----only 70% power?? Goes out the window when you get four or five of them coming up to the last lap-------let's get it on ------------nuff said..
If they ask me----I could write a book------about a few days in Tavares, with Off and the CBA, will put digit to keyboard over the coming weeks and tell you about the two new commissions I got-------the very first Mercury V6 EVER I bought along with a history of lakeX, so watch this space----I ain't never going to run out of ammo after this weekend.
Jackie,,,, try and take lots of snaps it would be nice to put faces to the names. Good to hear its all going well..Phill.
Stevo, there is nothing in the notifications------don't have the number for John L. Forgot you had it------but I don't have your number. If you could tell John I will call in to St Cloud on the way back Wednesday and pay him cash for the motor and Lake X test papers, or deposit it in the bank.
just send me his number and I will do the rest. 7722878755 That's Wilson Custom Marine-----,will be there tomorrow------mark is there in the daytime most days.
Would like to have your number Stavros-----something I need to tell you----urgent!!!
Steve - Iris and I met your beautiful Anne a couple of years ago at OFF and we absolutely loved her. We are terribly saddened by her passing and offer you our deepest sympathies. - Iris and Steve Sirois
That's it !! It's all over for this year-------very mixed emotions------some sad news----some good news, no Stickle, ROTORY John, WILLABEE ,Rathmell ,but new friends in the guise of MR. Fun ( Kieth----------damned if I can remember). Sam sends her apologies for not getting back to you on the dock.
It all finished on a high for me with the buying of a very important piece of history and Mercury memorabilia which I will tell you about later.
Sad bit of breaking news, one of Gieco's female staff passed away today-----Reece ?----I didn't know her that well, but my grand kids, Louise and Gary did. RIP.
Gary bought me a Miller Spot Welder-----so you should be seeing lots more intricate bits of stainless cobbled together.
Catch the transatlantic traveller tomorrow ----should be home midday Thursday. So God bless all of you and MYGGWY .J.
Time to leave Florida for this year. Got my spot welder, which kinda makes me very happy as it's another thing ticked off the wish list-----bloody thing turns the scales at twenty kilos. Mark packed it in a shoulder hold all, guess whose going to have a stiff neck when I reach home!!!
Another thing I noticed over here-----every parking lot has 75% foreign cars and trucks, SUV's etc,to 30% home grown----no wonder Detroit went belly up-----they should have put a 100% import tax on all foreign vehicles--------would balance the economy overnight------would be a lot of "dolly throwing" by France, Italy, Germany--and the Far East ---who gives a flying fart if it brings back jobs and balances the economy.
All you have to do is look at the economy of Sweden,Norway, Singapore, --------import tax in all these countries is Around the 100% mark------China has more Rolls Royces than any other country in spite of this.
England has the same problem.
Have you noticed the quality of tools and machines ( bandsaws, hand tools, pure sh-TE , it's all throw away rubbish kit.
Lets hear your views on this-----Sears, Snap- on, South-Bend-----all give lifetime guarantees, why the hell would you buy Chink junk tools-------tell you
Because it's CHEEEEEEEEEP.We should be ashamed!!!
foreign cars are in because Americans voted for reliability, being in Houston every 2 weeks last year and hiring everything hertz had.
The worlds biggst selling car is better than anything local thats for sure.
Had a new caddy , was nice but needs to sell at the price of a Camry
Why is Yam so big
Fat lazy Merc and OMC didnt want to listen, same execs in the car industry I guess?
PS Jackie, is your spot welder 230V?
