Boat #36 is Tommy Posey.
That is the boat that Tommy and Johnny Sanders drove at Paris and Berlin in 1969, just before the Havasu Race. It is an 18 ft. wood Molinari “high flyer”. It was identical to the yellow #30 boat that Jimbo ran at Paris and Berlin, and then at Havasu, 1969. Both boats were shipped back from Europe in time for Havasu. After Havasu, Jimbo’s boat was sent to Canada and Tom Woods drove it on the Canadian circuit. Jimbo won Havasu Single engine with it and Berlin with Ted May.

This was a newspaper photo from Lake Havasu in 1970. That’s Jimbo’s Scorer with the long hair and dark sunglasses right in the middle……standing up to see where the heck #30 is!! https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e...5/16/1f60e.png. Truth be told…..this may be when he barrel rolled just around the point. He had just been scored, went out of sight around the corner, and the crowd made a roar. The boat landed right side up. Jimbo pulled the Boat to the shore, because if a Patrol Boat touched you, or your Boat, you were Disqualified for the day. Bob Nagode (Goat) got to the Boat and took out all the wood debris that was smashed into the front of the engine from the rear faring. Jimbo got in…..Engine started and he finished the Race. https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e...5/16/1f923.png

Great Story Teller, Machinist and PERSON. Loved racing Boats. Always thinking outside the box. Made Some Really Nice Parts.
.. and here is Jimbo's Molinari after being sent to Canada's Tom Wood, 1971.

Jimbo won the first Canadian "S" Class race of the season in Peterborough, 1971. Tommy Wood was second, Kenny Kitson, third.
Tom Wood was always fast - didn't give an inch and driven to win - Yet fair.. The next two photos show:
1) Tommy blowing over in heat #1, 1972, Lake Ontario, Toronto's Port Credit.
Attachment 529835
2) Tommy's back in the race - leading the pack at the start of heat #2 - Note: Both his boat's (A "Pinel") rear-cowling and his OMC engine cowling were lost in heat #1's blow-over, but it didn't stop Tom from drying off and jumping back into the lead next heat (which included twin and single engine rigs from both camps)

Then in 1972 Jimbo & I were ther & Merc sent Hering & Downard, Downard with the new C6. Jimbo won overall, Hering second, with a little help from my blocking on the start, I was third & Tom was 4th. Petersborough being OMC ‘s Canadian based factory, we had to do well. And a bit of trivia, Jimbo was driving the Goat boat
Great memory, John!
Peterse90 would recall this too. I was a teenager racing in FE class at the time. Peterborough was the season opener, usually around the 24th of May.. The Factory wars were in full swing and OMC was one of the largest companies in this northern city - boating was a big deal. For young racers, watching their heroes battle it out was simply the best!
Here are a couple of clippings from that race in '72.
Attachment 529871 Attachment 529872
Peterborough 1973 was a great race. Both factories sent many top drivers. Bob Hering won with a pickle fork Molinari and Jimbo was second in the first (smaller) Goat Boat. Later that year both factories showed up again in Toronto for the PS100's. Water was rough, Fountain won but I remember Posey, Briggs and other OMC's finished well in the top 10.
Toronto 1974, Jimbo won in the larger (pickle fork) Goat Boat. Again a very top notch field of Mercury & OMC drivers.

Johnson High-Performance Products
In 1992, the OMC Performance Group delivered a full-range of hot-performing "racing outboards" from the 15A to SST100. These were not recreational outboards, but rather designed for competition and to meet APBA specifications. Competition enhancements included streamlined gearcases, heavy-duty midsections, beefed-up motor mounts and twin steering arms. To set these motors apart from their recreational brothers, they featured unique motor cover styling and special powerhead machining for improved performance.
The Big Guns – Additionally, OMC offered Limited Edition V-6 and V-8 models for sport boats as well. These motors also featured special graphics, plus cylinder heads machined to the limits of factory specifications. Both Limited Edition outboards were available with an optional hydro-dynamic gearcase with low water pick-up allowing higher transom heights for performance boats. There were also special steering brackets available for multi-engine applications and external steering. Plus, an optional external exhaust snout for a high-performance look and sound.
Even More Performance – Second Effort Performance Products in Lake Hamilton Florida was OMC’s authorized racing center offering a complete range of ulta-high-performance products from special-duty props to complete higher-performance versions of some production engines

I can see that is Art driving, but he usually ran #24. He was a Nice guy, the whole family was nice. I have often thought of his wife, Clem, and wondered about her. I especially remember his Dad……https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e....5/16/2764.png
I think that boat is a Nauss Craft and belonged to or did previously belong to Terry Leatherby.

Just Wondering.

The original logo was STRANG/LER that was put forward by my dad.
Charlie Strang never liked it and didn't want the notoriety.
