I agree Hydro, firepower is a very key thing in an emergency when things start to fly at a crazy pace... We can't always take a textbook stance and plug away with patience, so it's good to have 10+ rounds ready, and often we may be against more than one person... Honestly, I like the 1911 and I'm starting to look at them again just from a "dang they feel good" standpoint.. I'd like to give the 1911 another try for range fun, home defense, etc. because it's still one of the most natural pointing semi-auto's that I've found but I think some of the newer polymers make more sense in a concealed carry scenario... I wish that I had the dough to have them all...Quote:

Alby, I keep a hi capacity 18" 12 ga. ready also for home defense... Don't be fooled into thinking you don't have to aim one at home distances, ya still got to shoulder it and point that blast... There is still no pistol available that can stop the BS at close range like a scattergun...
My first hang gun was a Ruger mark 2. 22lr, shoot all day on the cheap. Plus it's so accurate you will feel like Wyatt erp. I wish all of my pistols were as accurate.

I bought one of these to take my Concealed carry license and I was the ONLY one there to shoot a perfect score.
It is 9x18 where a regular 9MM is 9x19 and a 38 super is 9x21, it is the less powerful of the 9MM......but I damn sure don't want to get shot by it.
It is small and easy to carry and use, and is double action....just pull the trigger to shoot, or pull the hammer back for an easy trigger pull.
I am from Texas and they normally sell for about $150.00 to $200.00 locally, but here is a link to one for $199.00

Ok since now were talking home defense. Heres something no home should be with out. It doesnt have to be this but everyone should keep them secure. I can get to my favorite shotgun and handguns with just the push of three buttons, even in the dark. Good thing to have when kids are in the house. My Karh is in an electron single gun safe built into the headboard of my bed.

This dude just wants to get his carry license.......he doesn't want to shoot anybody. He needs a small easy to use semi auto so he won't be restricted to a revolver on his license.
If somebody breaks into my house, I don't want a gun.......they won't suffer enough!!! (but I am 6'5" 280#)
I am sure the garlic and doberman trick works fine too, but the smell would take some getting used to.

ACAMS: "This dude just wants to get his carry license.......he doesn't want to shoot anybody." No one should carry a gun without the prior knowledge they could use it to kill someone. Dealing with that later is a different matter, but mental prep should be done for that fact. Otherwise don't carry. And a good beating to someone is always good for basics, but the quickest and most effective methods should be used when family is at stake (just my opinion).
ViperGTS: "A hit with a .22 is far better than a miss with a .45". Go shoot some good pistols/firearms of choice and decide what is best for you to shoot and your application. Also, if you can't enjoy practicing with it, then it probably won't work well. Have you made any progress in your search?

If you HAVE to shoot your weapon in your home... If possible, lay on the floor and shoot upward at the intruder. Less of a chance of shooting thru a wall and killing a family member. Also take aim and close your eyes before discharging. After firing you will still have some night vision, if you need to shoot again you wont be blinded by the flash of the first round. Tips given to me by friend in law enforcement.... Might help in some situations...
Skip the Kel Tec, I have one and they are built really cheap. The Ruger LCP is the same design built alot better.Quote:

Yep on closing the eyes before the flash. Try and cup one ear too, or there goes the hearing too. And my cop bud says best a regular load, big slug, 44/45, just a good boom, rather than the sharp crack, a 357 Mag. Think an indoor range is loud with no muffs, try an enclosed room!

Like that little Cobra Deringer...Thats a 38? Checkin that out...Ian I think that PF-9 might be heavier than what I would like to carry..Did some research on the Kel-tek P-32...Some people had some jamming issues with them, others not...The Ruger LCP had a trigger recall due to accidental discharge when dropped...Neither of them problems aint thrillin' me!!!
