Gourdes and pumpkins are awesome to shoot, LOL. I have a friend that almost bought a waste oil furnace-do the research on them. He's glad he didn't go with it. I'm using propane, diesel/kerosene, and a wood furnace. Helps if you have lots of trees around too.Quote:

I used all propane in De and it was not cheap I had r22 walls and alot of heat leaks to say and I got smashed with propane I burned 250 lbs a or more a month and that was not cheap I rented the tank in the ground it was cheaper than buying a big one and if it ever leaked they replaced it. Highest bill was 700 smackers and we were still wearing long johns but don't have that to worry about down here:D
Yep, propane aint cheap but down to 2.59 gallon here now. And for house heat 24/7? Gonna cost ya. I'm all electric here house/shop lights. $35M summer, winter highest is maybe $125 a month. That might be reversed in FLA as winter no A/C needed, but summer ya do. I don't have A/C here as no needed summer. Thing is location for HVAC and power. Back in Illinois had Nat Gas and the garage was connected house out the kitchen. Had a 6 inch pipe vent out from house heater there as the washer/dryer(had a well) water softener was out there. If house was 70, garage was 70.
But if no Nat Gas supply the crib ya gotta do what ya gotta do. And thats Elec or Propane. Or wood stove (still the best and cheapest) and pellet stoves are pricey but put out some good heat. But we are talking not a living in house here, just a shop. Actually I bought this place when moved BECAUSE the new stick frame shop was a blank canvas to "build my way"...and it even came with a house!
A friend mine here (has dough) built a house and LARGE shop with radiant in floor electric heat the shop. One side it is his bikes and the 65 GTO, partitioned off is his wood working shop. Plus a HS friend mine living out here built a house, with "floor heat". DAMN thats COMFY COZY! But "bucks"
Lets get back to "shop build" As its our (don't come here summer as ya will stay) "Famous for all it does is rain here" November PNW is "going down". So in the shop messing. Had to dig into some my pix taken before, and some now kinda recent. Boats outside under shelters or covered season, but its now all about my "junk out here". Sorry if hijacking the thread here, but some might get some ideas what I did. And worked fine too! Some the "shop" before and after....(more post to come)

And I did this the back side for "gotta have it stuff" and 6 sealed G-Cans bottom, more stuff" as I "gotta have stuff". But its MY "stuff" and the neighbors know it, but if need anything, skip the 40 mile R/T town.."go see Robby!" And I sell nothing, but damn sure give it to ya if needed, and I got it. Some how this dogpatch is like "doritos"..well make more.."stuff"
And I'm shop lap and its me hoping pix show, or go house a "fix it".

I will have the skin off the three 16' x 12' 6" doors (if I can get the nails out w/o destroying it) when they come down and I was thinking lean to.
Rick, we are in the sticks and have elec and propane only. We have a 2 K sq ft, 2 story house, sealed fairly well, and w/the spare rooms closed off we made it through last winter on a tank and a half of propane w/o freezing us too bad, I think 300 gal tank.
Freebee furnace will go on the ceiling w/ceiling fans to follow.
Funny, after 9 yrs in Fla, now I am quite the wussy when it comes to the cold though;)

The heat down here won't give us a break this year. Supposed to be 87 today and high 80s all week. Seems like it's been this hot or hotter since April. I wouldn't mind some 60-70s right now!

Weather! Ya can't win! And speaking of weather we have a good rain and windstorm off the ocean today and just now passing east. Power only out once. And any "weather here"? But heres a fast way to start a shop woodstove shop fire. Propane and a weed burner torch! 5/10 minutes and ya got heat! Been doing this a decade.

The crew started the insulation and walls today. My three 12' x 12'6" doors came in and installer is waiting on me to finish framing for them.Spent the last 2 days tearing out and moving everything I spent the previous yr arranging. My killer work bench was a PIA!Forgot how strong I built that damn thing. Could have parked a car on it.
