The record could have been crushed

It amazes me how being rich let's you get away with anything. If any "normal" person did that their boat would be impounded and they'd be cited for unsafe speed for conditions, and gross negligence operation (I've had trouble with Coast Guard and Sheriffs for WAY less than this). Those guys are lucky to be alive - 5' farther to port and they'd all be dead. I've also run into heavy fog when running in big water, I was down to 30mph using my IPhone GPS for navigation and just hoping one of the 80' ferries that run the water I was on would see me on their radar if I was in their path. I'm not trying to "hate" on Stuart or Joey, as we all know they're the best in the industry, but the video proves that what they were doing that day was far from safe, and because of who they are (and how much money they have), they surely got away with this with just a damaged boat to repair.

I have no idea but perhaps they had a permit for the run

Permit or not, they were running in open water (not a closed course such as a race), so all rules/laws of the navigable waterways would still apply to them.

Im surprised to their choice of Life jackets. I would think all three would be wearing Lifelines. Each of them have a different type of non hi-perf PFD.

Definitely too foggy IMO for that speed.

After watching the video a few times in slow-mo, it's difficult to think they were doing 140+ at that point. The sequence below shows where Joey has the throttle just prior to spotting the buoy, then he pulls all it way back, then during the turn/impact his hand comes off and something causes the stick to go forward again (further then prior to the impact)

let me ask you a question, you guys dont think the coast guard was notified pior to this event?, you think they were going to just blow through manhatten without them knowing? you guys dont think the coast guard was on site after the incident? you guys really believe a lifeline and helments would have saved there lives if they took that bouy head on ? this is why I refused to post the videos, now all you monday morning quarterbacks can jump all over me.....have fun:thumbsup:

No problem. the video can be seen over on the hull truth

but when they established the record in 2013 that was ok? where was all the opinions then? go back and look at the utube video, the only difference was thomlisom was on the throttles I guess he didnt know what he was doing either? the 2 greatest throttleman of our era doing the same thing

Do we think the issue was the Fog or is it just hard to see out of a race boat canopy? it sounded like JT saw the buoy

No I cant speak for anyone else but those speeds with those types of life gear and lack of helmets could have saved them injury in other situations that thankfully didn't happen.LOOK AT THE FIRST AND LAST PICS AGAIN. Of course the issue was fog. If they could have seen it clearly they would have steered away long before and this wouldn't have happened. He saw it way to late.

If you read the comments here you will see it was more complex than just blaming the fog. Unfortunately ship happens.
