Not sure how many 'pickle-fork' Scottis were built (my guess is not many?) but this one was still very competitive even in 1976.
I remember Tom Wood drove one here in Canada in I think 1977 or 1978.

Hmmm................if Scotti lost his life in 1974, who continued to run the shop afterwards? Were the pickle fork boats conversions? When you look at this photo, that would have been a heck of a lot of work just to get rid of a little lift (nose cowl, air fences, center deck, etc). I wonder if OMC V6 power had anything to do with the change? Only way you could get a new Scotti hull in the USA back in the day was thru Barry Woods. Another question...........I can't remember seeing a Scotti hull with Merc power either?
This is Paris 1974 with Woods/Jimbo driving a Scotti pickle fork Rotary. So, Scotti must have been building pickle forks at that time. I believe Posey was driving another one, but lost a sponson when he hit the turn boey.Attachment 525673

I did see some posts about Mercury's "secret race test" of the first V6 in Koblenz, Germany late 1973.
(Some of pictures used is from me I got from my friend in Norway. He was in Koblenz)
Sealed engine cover etc..This race was a week or two before the Paris 6 Hour race same year.
OMC went straight to Paris with the new V6.. (Two Johnson V6 and one Evinrude V6)..the 1973 Paris result was brutal for Merc...!!
The new Johnson 2 liter V6 was first and second in Paris 1973..Third was an OMC V4..
See the headline around the world..

I am trying to figure out what year the picture above from OMC Belgium is..
First..its probably just before Paris 6 hours…..
1973 Sanders won with a Johnson V6.
1974 Sanders drove the Johnson Rotary.
1975 Sanders drove a Johnson V6 so I can’t figure the year out.
In my memory Sanders never drove a Evinrude V6 Super Stranger in the Paris race..???

1970 Johnny drove a Johnson with Tommy Posey.

Very creative indeed, but best not be placed on a night table beside your bed. At 4:00AM While blindly reaching over to find the switch, one could end up with some serious cuts & stitches! https://www.screamandfly.com/images/icons/icon12.png
More lamp info....
Hi Lars,
Most of the retirement lamps were made from the production 25hp (split) gearcase, mounted upside down. Many/most of them were made by the crew at the Stuart Test Center.
In addition to Don Henrich's lamp, I am aware of two other lamps that were made from a 45SS gearcase, mounted upside down.
Jack Leek's lamp was made from the early 45SS design, which was smaller in size and did not go into production.
See attached photo.

Finally started working on my Magnum II plugged upper holes and water pickups, added lower holes and torque tab. I got the idea from Kevin at Premier Boat Repair. I can't wait to finish it and see how it does. My 94 lower unit is on borrowed time. Plus the water pump is 16 years old

We lost Billy Schumacher a few months ago..R.I.P. my great friend.
Yesterday I did find a FaceBook conversation with Billy 3 years ago about Paris 6 hours 1973. He was pretty active on my FB OMC page.

I witnessed Marlboro money at the Embassy Bristol race in England 1973.
Cigarette girls dressed in Marlboro colors were passing out sample (I think they were free, I don't smoke) packets of Marlboro cigarettes.
Cees vander Verden had the Marlboro sponsorship, and at that race Bob Spalding & Tom Percival had the JPS cigarette sponsorship.
More info about Velden's Marlboro sponsorship..
First two more OMC/Marlboro...the first picture #11 is from Auronzo, Italy late August 1976
https://www.screamandfly.com/attachm...5&d=1698623809
https://www.screamandfly.com/attachm...6&d=1698623809
Now its getting more interesting...
Here is why.. later 1976 Velden switched from Johnson to Merc just a few days before Paris 6 Hours 1976.
(I am pretty sure this happened because Renato signed with OMC for the 1977 season)
The first picture #92 Cees Velden/Marlboro/Merc is in Paris 6 hours 1976. His co-pilot was Billy Seebold..!! I got this unique Paris picture from my Italian friend. (Thanks)
Sadly Paris 1976 was the last UIM race for Velden with Marlboro..he lost the sponsorship but signed with Drakkar for the 1977 season.
Last picture.

I wonder what Bill Seebold thought of driving a Velden?
Well..the two UIM OZ class Long John boats 1978 was built by Velden and Billy won Duke of York Trophy, Bristol 1978 with one of them.
