just as in sst 120
was the largest opc class in the world
same 2.5 block with 2.0 liner
brought in the opti to quit production on the 120
up to 2005 had 30+ boats on the start dock
today only series left is apr and they cannot get but a 7-8 boat field with both opti and 120 added together
with the s3000 being dropped F1 will be forced to use what the 400r on a 350lb hull,,,will die next
x cat is already hurting with the pull back of some countries from their problems
so new hulls being made for them we will see whats left in 2017 when 400 is a must to use

Word is merc has proposed a 360hp 4 cylinder 4 choke for f1...... That motor would get creamed by a two stroke.

F-1 car racing is now running turbo V-6's w/electric motors and fuel rationing. As in hybrids.
Oh yeah, it sucks!

Looks like the end of racing as we know it.

EXACTLY!!! Why would anyone build a 30'+ boat with these motors? You'd only save $40k on a $400k+ build, and go WAY slower, plus not get over the rough as well as an inboard boat of the same size. My inboard propulsion package consisting of Sterling 800hp N/A motors complete with headers/tailpipes, Arneson drives/steering/tie-bar is $140k complete, a pair of 400X-Cat motors are $100k when you add steering/tiebar/engine brackets. You'd have to really want to suck Mercury's cock to only save 10% on your build to go 40+mph slower and have a worse ride in the rough. And I guarantee my Sterling/Arneson package is more reliable than those supercharged 2.6 liters/SM lowers.

I agree.........F1/F2 here in the states has been a dying breed since the mid/late 2000s. There's no tunnel boat racing West of the Mississippi - except for when the F1 boats run in Seattle.

I quit watching when they went away from the NA V8s. But there is still hope for F1! Unlike outboards..........

Very cool!

Current TV coverage sucks too. In 2 yrs they haven't shown us an engine let alone talked tech about them. 1/2 through this season they stopped calling them engines and started calling them "power units". The idea that it takes a team several hrs to change a motor that they used to be able to do in minutes and the drivers and teams all hate them.
I HATE the current formula.

NHRA debated for yrs whether it was about the cars or the drivers and F-1 clearly decided it's the drivers and it sucks.

You know they now have an electric open wheel class? They can't finish a race on one battery charge so each team has two cars! When the batteries go low, they come in and change cars!!!
The tree huggers are ruining all motor sports.

Agreed on SST 120's too. Used to be the best thing since F-1 O/B's in the states.

Yup, Formula E is the all electric open wheel class. Did you hear they're going to have a driverless class in the next year or so! Yes, you read that right - NO DRIVERS in the race cars! They'll be driven around the track by onboard computers. They've already taken pilots out of military aircraft, now they're taking drivers out of race cars. I'm glad I'm 45 and don't have too many years left, because I won't even want to be here on this phocked-up planet much longer........especially after Hillary gets voted in!

I remember a really old, hoky, sci fi, futuristic movie w/I think Lee Majors as star?? Cars were outlawed and the man was in charge.
He had a Porsche 917 (kit car) hidden underground that he snuck out to drive late at night so he didn't get caught. I'll never forget that movie and how close we are.

My dad is 94, fought in WW II and cant stand to see what our society has turned into.

Was just thinking the other day that between the tree huggers, our government and money, almost all sports have been ruined. Read the paper to get the weekend schedule of whats on TV and you can't even tell what it is. Even in Nascar, which I don't watch.

Motocross is now arenacross so they can have them everywhere. Saw a youtube video of a real outdoor motocross on a real track w/out all the dumb ass style jumps and thought I was dreaming!

Columbus has a professional soccer stadium right by the freeway and every time I drive by it's named after a different sponsor.

Etec injectors in old v8 omc would look good these days.

It does give the aftermarket guys a lot of opportunity to fill this void though.

I was in Austin for the F1 race and while the "Show" was exciting to watch, the 70s - 80s era Historic series F1 cars running their race was insane. The ground shook and the hair on my arms stood up when they went by at full song. That will never get old!!
