Ah, Ceramics are a different ball game Fuji——- I would have gone to art school had I chosen this field !Ceramic workshop would be expensive to put together plus, you do need your own retail outlet???

Now you’re talking—— went all over Sweden visiting different small glassworks. Fascinating industry, lots of one man workshops ——- absolutely amazing what you can do with a furnace, a pair of parallels and a bit of molten glass on a stick and a few colours!
EVERYTHING is very expensive.
Could probably set up a glass works for less than my workshop cost me——— while I find it interesting—- it’s not really what I want to do.
One of the reasons I sold the wood lathe was because I got bored stiff with turning!
Suppose I’ve grown into a cranky old bastard with fixed ideas .
Ive always kept an open mind, relished the challenge of “bet you couldn’t do that”.
That’s how come I made the grandfather clock—— the Hawaiian Pineapple Table—— the mahogany sea chest,———- and the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost’s.
So, What really makes an artist ???
A Van Gough sold for £4 in 1964——- just sold for £21,000,000.——
Is it the value of the product———-the quality——— ability——— or popular demand ???
You can ask £1,000 for a concept——- but if there’s no takers !!! Worthless !
But—— cop you’re clogs—— turn your toes up—- meet the grim reaper—— your stuff becomes priceless. Why??? Because it’s popular—— it’s in demand——- and there’s no more coming from that source !!!
Then the “FAKERS” move in.

Hawaiian Pineapple Table I was on about!

Over a hundred dovetails in this solid mahogany dome topped sea chest!

Cleopatra’s Nile Barge—— another of my fantasmagorical concepts—— that’s still rotting in the shed—- though I did make a bread board out of the 1500 year old chunk of yew from the base.
It sits proudly in my sister Angela’s kitchen!
Attachment 458449
Better piccie of the Cleopatras Barge Concept!
Me myself have very definite views on what is and what isn’t art!
Guy called PHILLIP MORRIS fernagled PERFECT models of the worlds best offshore powerboats—— does it with a three Dee printer.
Finished product is exact replica and perfect—— about ten inches long and sells for under £100 !
My problem is, not an ounce of skill—- feeling or love goes into it—— how is it a work of art ???
It certainly LOOKS the biz—— I get all out of shape when I see them!
Tried to explain it to Christian Toll—- I did him a concept with three of his offshore rigs——- off the top of my head, with a spokeshave , a picture and a memory!
Ones a dinky toy—- the others art—— you may not agree— but I’d like to hear from some of you exactly what you think !
No painting can ever be as perfect as a photo——- maybe framing a phoggie is the way to go?
Attachment 458476
Christian Toll—— Mike Bontoft ( current owner of Dry Martini) and yours truly!
Thats the concept I did for Christian—— May not be to scale—-or deadly accurate—- but a lot of heart, soul and memory went into producing it!
Copy or Creation...we know which is the art sir.
Crisis, will you please drop the “Sir” bit——- it’s an AMERICAN thing!
English SIRS are either knighted personel —— customers in a restaurant being served by a waiter—- or a barber asking if I would like “something for the weekend”!
I was called Jackie as far back as I can remember—— given name is Jack, that suits me fine.
I have been called several other names—— none of them very complimentary—- I just don’t feel comfortable being called sir, especially when I didn’t earn it.
But thank you for being kind— J.

Heart of a roller—— two weeks work that nobody sees—- floor pan— axles — bearings and tyres—- Springs. Etc—— over a thousand different operations already—- so—- what else would you be doing on a rainy day in West Sussex ? It’s a “ just in case” anyway—— bit ike the HS2 railroad——- spend 8 billion—- just in case they decide to finally build it!!!
Attachment 458575
looking through some old photographs, surprising just how many old friends I have!

Jackie's Concept of a Molinari Sprint has special meaning: Jackie raced his #5 boat in the early 70's - which ultimately ended up in Canada in 1972, first driven by Spencer Dunn in S Class, then by me in '73 as a U1 & SJ Boat (#11). Many great memories for all concerned!
Don and I bought that Molinari together 50/50— cost was £1000 — later that year I was taken on by the Mercury Race team.
They supplied a new 17’ boat.
I sold Don my half of the 18’ yellow Molly the week before the London race—— he then painted it “
“GAWD-L-PUS.
He won the London race at a cantor—— I raced A 16’ Levi called PHAEDRA——- bought it off Julian Bailey day before the race—- never got it set up right, Don lapped me twice!

This was a shot of a bunch of my oldest friends taken at ZELLWOOD just before the golf tournament
TOMMY, BILLY, BUTLER, DENISE, AND SQUIRT .
Attachment 458621
Most lovable bloody rogue ever —— but you couldn’t help but like him— Circuit—— Offshore—— didn’t matter to him.
SIROIS and him were great friends—— think Bill was the better driver—- Pruett tended to drive the nuts offn a boat —— SIROIS “Coaxed” the best out of any boat!
Attachment 458622
My great friend, confidante, crew chief—— and the best mechanic in the world .
CHARLES RYDALL SHOOTER——- (CHAS). RIP!

Now we have Storm DENNIS THE MENACE F——- due to peak midday Sunday.
Poor souls in the Calder valley in Yorkshire are among the worst hit once again—— less than a week after storm Ciara flooded thousands of homes—- if you travel up to Yorkshire any time soon, be careful not to mention “ CLIMATE CHANGE”!
www.windy.com pretty good
Attachment 458714
Pair of PATRIARCHS !
Just been upgraded to “BOMB” status——- never heard that one before—- apparently it can come out of nowhere and change direction, Leaving untold damage in its wake. Three people dead already.it has a 1200 mile front, so nobody can escape it!
Was going to visit my daughter Boo in their new house—— it’ll have to wait until another day!
Don’t know if any of you lot out there can comprehend this, but when I think of any power boat drivers —- the place he lives always comes to mind !!!
Seebold——St, Louis
Jimbo—— Needles
Ron Hill—- Santa Anna
Schultze—— Saltzburg
Molly Ballou——- Hialeah
Konig —- Berlin
Scotti and Molinari—- Como
Merton and Butler Oshkosh
Spalding and Percy—- Lowestoft
Don Ross- Brian Hunt—- Bristol
Rolla—- Lugano
Pruett—— a bar in Florida
Bentz and Stickle—- Tennessee
Anyway—- you get the idea —— name a driver and I can mostly tell you wher He’s from!!!!
Attachment 458720
Daughter Sam is down in Bath soaking up some culture—— visited a posh gallery—- nothing there I couldn’t manage if I put my mind to it——— those probably took a couple of days to construct—— a half tidy silver Ghost takes five weeks—— Sail boats probably cost two thou—— roller costs one!
Attachment 458721
Now that’s art——- clever bugger who did that to beautiful piece of timber !
Attachment 458722
Already outdated ——- New Zealand claim to be light years ahead in the Americas Cup game—— but that was yesterday!
Not much let up yet with “DENNIS THE MENACE”—— England is now officially flooded.
Worst hit was the north of England Wales and Scotland—— it’s rained for 36 hours nonstop—— ground was still saturated from last week.
One of the big problems has been water running down the hills and mountains—— so much so that the rivers couldn’t cope——- burst their banks and flooded the country and thousands of homes.
We live close to the south coast—— all the water runs into the English Channel, one way or another.
Roads and fields are flooded —- but it’s fairly flat—— and we are only getting the tail end of the storm.
Trouble is—— it’s deep as well as wide——— rain forecast for the next few days before the next storm hits Thursday/Friday.
Jolly hockey sticks—— life gets tedious don’t it—— so they Chuck two or three storms at us for good measure.
We have already had two months rain so far——- and it’s only half way through February!
Looks like Brexit and it’s aftermath is not the disaster it was supposed to be——- Germany now making noises about following ( only if we are hugely successful?)
Boris trying to do a good impersonation of Your Donald—— spending a 100+ BILLION building a new high speed railroad network—— Chinks (Huweii) reckon they’ll could build it for half that —— and years quicker—— now that would make your darling Donald throw his dollies out of the pram. THINK THE TRADE UNIONS MIGHT GET AGITATED TOO,!!
...Gotta be careful down there, at the very tip of Florida Jackie. She sure looks real though...;)https://www.screamandfly.com/attachm...4&d=1581668101
