Bitterly disappointing day yesterday——- suffered a major setback—— did a trial run of the putting the finishing touch to me latest effort—— only to find that the pillars of the earth were half the size they should be——- ruined the whole thing.
Set me back two days. Even a genius makes mistakes sometimes—— an idiot makes them all the time!

this is what all the fuss was about—— cocked up the height of the pillars They needed to be at least twice as high ( One Metre ) done em—— just need to swop the race cars over.

took a drive out to Parker and Havasu 5 or six years ago when we went to Las Vegas always wanted to see them after reading about them
in powerboat & waterskier.
Question for you Jackie did you ever race on the lake at mallory park ? I remember mono's not so sure about cats.

This damn thing has been a geometrical nightmare and I haven’t even started on the planetary system
yet! bollard goes 25 kilos but is only about four inches (100mm) wide—— height of about a metre, hanging from a skyhook swaying in the wind bones get a tad exciting!!!

Been digging through the archives for any information about the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost “Pearl of the east”——- was a famous old chariot in its day——— commissioned by a maharajah in India who paid a shedload of dinero initially—— then had Purdie firepower installed ! Plus a rear carrier and roof rack!
Now have a proper diagram drawing of the ten and fourteen spoked wheels.
Decided I would do ten and twelve spoked wheels—— see what they looked like?
Mighty pleased with the first ever attempt from a proper plan—— book I’ve got covers everything —— how many rivets in the bonnet !
Steering wheel detail is quite amazing Alloy, Brass, leather and hardwood——- going to be a frig—— but I’ve always been ambitious!

It’s quite difficult to explain how to put the finned brake drums on to the axles—— then turn them down to fit the single bearing and then thread he axle to take the wheel hub.Quote:

Once you have them made—- they can stay on the shelf until you feel like making a few more components before stitching the whole shebang together.
Bear in mind I have to make do with material that I pick up at the car boot sale or the scrapyard, none of the materials used are new or purposely ordered!
Wheel rims for instance were too thin for use—- until I hit on the idea of stitching two together—- Voila—- wide rimmed Rollerwheels!

When we picked it up, it was outside —- open to all weathers—— James Sheppard collected her and put her back under cover at his house in Horsham.
Markthen arranged for it to be shipped to the USA——- where it still resides to this day awaiting a COSWORTH DFV !!!

Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together, you fall flat on your face—— dust yourself off—— start all over again ! That’s life!
When I get bogged down during the construction of a “CONCEPT” —- i usually switch off and do something totally different !
I really made progress with my “REACH FOR THE STARS”, concept——— even got over the ANGLE OF DANGLE before getting well and truly stumped on how the planetary system was going to work, so, since browsing through my brilliant birthday book,TWENTY SILVER GHOST ROLLS ROYCE’S.i wanted to try and make something a bit near the “actual” car.
First thing I did was to make up the wheels——- the real McCoy’s are two rims bolted together —- so I’ve done that.
Ten spokes ( out of solid) on the front, then fourteen on the back. Unfortunately if I do that the back wheels look flimsy and a bit untidy —— plus being a bit beyond my capabilities, so I settled for twelve spokes on the back wheels.
Been a week constructing four wheels and the axles, taking time out from the “reach” project, but I think I’ve come up with an answer to the planet problem ! Did take a week though!

Today I had the old Teddy pleading for mercy——- only mercy I showed the bugger was to coat him in Honey before I threw him on the Barbie!
Have you ever had one of those “Stellar” days—- days when everything goes right—— Problems—- What problems—— a kinda “Midas Touch” day.
Today’s been one of those——- problems had been mounting up for a while——- I kept switching concepts because I was stumbling and quite frankly come to an “IMPASSE” —— took the bull by the horns and nailed the problem—— then did number two——- number three—— then four.
Come lunchtime—- I didn’t have a single problem—- that’s why I had BEAR for lunch !
Trying to find miniature hunting rifles (3/4” long) for the back of the maharajahs Silver Ghost that was lost long ago. Apparently, the rack could carry up to ten guns. If any of you old farts out there know of any that don’t cost a kings ransom, give me a bell.
Seeing as how there are no known copies of the PEARL OF THE EAST roller—— thought I might just fill the gap——- sometime in the future of course!!!!
Jackie, if search “miniature rifles” into E-B there is all sorts of tiepin sizes.. might be of interest.

Steering wheels and road wheels——— innocuous things really—— till you try to fernagle the pernickety little buggers! Five wheels and tyres take over a week to construct—— a solitary steering wheel and appendages about the same.
No matter how hard I try—— theres 5/6 weeks work in every roller!
