How long does it take to build a pool...got to be one hellava pool! Well we know it's going to be..
Dont you hate when life gets in the way of a great project?
So before I build the deck, I have a drainage problem to fix, which runs under where the new deck will be.
The sump pump for the house dumps into 4" corrugated behind the house and the down spouts also dump here.
There is a blockage somewhere that needs fixed before the deck is built.
So I need to hire an excavator before the deck/pool project.
In the mean time........, the shop/work was way slower after the move than I expected.
Based on this, I shut it down an got a real job and have been working my balls off for the last 3 wks.
Was in the shop last Sunday for the first time since.
Going through motors.
The motor Donnie checked for me was only showing 65ish lbs compression and should be 100.
Pumping it full of Seafoam and its coming up.
Also going through carbs on both motors and ignition.
Assuming they are healthy internally, I will assure the ignition/carbs are as well.
I dont want motor problems once the restomod is done/rigged.
Pulled them back off the bracket so I can pull it and finish its construction as well.
This project reminded me that my real joy is in building/modding motors, not restoring boats.
Thats a necessary evil due to my self imposed budgets.
Should have bought a pontoon boat ;)
Hey, while the digger is there, just have him dig a hole, grab one of those plastic pools that they have on the side of I-70 and wala, pool
I hope you have made some progress and life's headaches have given you a rest.
A slight delay 😉
During a discussion with the Mrs. over dinner and cocktails, she voiced her displeasure with all the time I was spending in the shop on the boat and requested that we buy one that is ready to run now.
And since she is way smarter than I am, who am I to argue?
Found this jewel 45 minutes from home at Kunkels marine the wizards of speed with Checkmates.
Its a ‘95 253 w/an EFI 454.
Other than slightly faded cockpit carpet, the boat motor and drive would pass as new. Maybe the best part about it though is the trailer.
Welded aluminum which I’ve never even heard of on a trailer before, 16 inch tires and rims, stainless disc brakes, on all four tires, reverse lights which I’ve also never even heard of before, all LED lights, a ladder on the tongue of the trailer to the bow of the boat with a toolbox built in its base.
The trailer is bad ass and it’s only 2 yrs old.
Funny part is everyone is telling me to finish the old boat and sell it and keep the new one.
If I do anything I will dump the I/O pig and save the twin OB :-)
BTW, the name for the new boat is, “HER BOAT”.
Damn that is in really nice shape..had to go back twice for year..cabin looks big for a 25 too.
Its really nice except one thing that motor.. haha
So it's missing two things..but boats to nice to rerig w twins? So your missing out on all that storage you like..
Trade offs...
And yea you have to finish the other to far now!
I have dealt with similar welded trailers and unless the load bearing cross members are actually resting on the frame and not totally supported be welds, you are at the mercy of the talent of the welder on a large aluminum structure with tendencies to flex. Not condemning welded trailers as a whole just a thought. Also you damage a piece of a fabricated trailer you can replace it.
What's wrong with you, you are more impressed with the trailer,...... great looking boat, can you sleep on it??? Good luck, pool in???
Mr Rich, its and I/O, ugh.
Will be fun to park them beside each other in the barn and see whats where in a yr.
How are the new motors running?
FXST, totally understood. Went to their website to research them. Their core business is custom trailers for goverment/military.
BMW, told her her pool is the new boat.
It's an I/O. Ugh.
Hey Gary,
Yea haven't really run them out on the river anymore. except running around the dock alittle .. between back and other broken down stuff...and was away in AZ(gojng to be moving but not soon enough!)
Hopefully in a week or 2 will get it back out...

I don't believe it?
Finally got some time in the shop and made headway.
To prevent on water issues I am replacing stators n powerpacks on both motors, as well as rebuilding carbs, impellers etc.
They’re used motors w/unknown histories so trying to be as proactive as possible.
I bought stators/powerpacks for both motors.
Rebuilt carbs on first motor this summer and replaced stator/p.pack. Bought a parts motor that had new coils n plug wires so installed them too.
Course when it was done I had no fire.
Double/triple ck’d everything and only got fire on two holes.
Ugh.
Pushed it off the side.
So I re-attacked it.
Spent a day swapping known parts from running motors.
Nothing.
Ugh.
Then I thought about the coils. I ohmed the wires and were OK.
Then started swapping coils and viola!
I was guilty of bypassing them due to seller telling me they were new and my history of NEVER having problems w/coils.
And they were new. Spotless clean, no signs of wear/time etc.
I replaced all 6 coils and now have fire on all 6.
After inspection, those coils had no markings/pt#s on them anywhere.
So would assume seller found them on the internet and bought cheapest he could find.
Cosmetically identical.
That crap is why I suck at trouble shooting.
But, good news is one motor is ready for battle.
Ill go through second motor next then pull the bracket off to finish it.
Once it’s done, I can reinstall permanently and start rigging.
