Tricks that old racers get up to after retirement

Just had a look see on Fuji's "Mercury through the years" ------that's a hard act to follow. To me, it's an incredible site-----full of all the stuff and people I like to see and hear about-----I'm all about "one man and his dog"----- I don't compete-----I just kinda meander alongside!

See if I can sort out the disaster I left in the shop last night, still haven't come up with a solution but I'm sure I will.

Really hope I can finish this one by late Saturday -----need to spend time sorting and packing the two items to take to Florida .

Right, question is------do I chuck away the outriggers and make it into a full tunnel with all the trimmings --------or continue on with the four pointer conception--------buggered if I know ???

Whats another Puey tunnel between friends-------Who luvsya baby ?

Finished the project nice and early apart from a final touch up.
Was going to make a suitable stand but somebody made a suggestion and I got off'n the motorway at "Dunatlast" and took the country road to "Mayjustdothat"-------what the hell, it's only just down the road a piece from where I'm at.!
I have just three hours Saturday morning to crack on with stage two. Out to lunch with a couple of old friends, dining at the "Flying Fish"------ old English pub that does good old fashioned food at reasonable rates--------meeting daughter Sam at The Kennels at Goodwood for a pint and a chat, and a catchup late afternoon.
Won't get much done this weekend I'm afraid.

Hamilton screwed up in practice, nearly time he stopped talking and just got on with his day job.

Thats about it for this week, nothing exciting, sad sort of a day, would have been Ivans birthday, 48
but he never made it.

Saturday is forage day at the scrapyard but I already have enough metal to sink a battleship so I may just give it a miss and head straight for the shop.
Old Fuji is on about trying to keep drivers safe---------that was always our number one priority at F.O.N.D.A.------we introduced the "Man in water" rule and never had a fatality until the UIM in its wisdom rescinded the rule in Dubia ------as a direct result of this, John Hill lost his life, Twas blatant stupidity by clowns who cared for nothing but spectacle with a total disregard for the safety of the drivers.
Well, that's a good start to the weekend, got that off my chest once again, not that it will do any good now. I wrote it all down in detail over 20 years ago and informed the UIM-------they didn't even bother to acknowledge they had received it!

Going to be another beautiful day, I'm all set to enjoy it, talk later? J.

The uim still need to fix the canopy rule as now all it does is stop you getting wet when it rains.

What little I ever knew about cells and canopies has probably changed beyond all recognition today Pilgrim.
Hodges helped Maclaren build their first cells for F1 cars, and after Tom Percival's fatal accident in Liege set about making the first successful pod in a boat.
Driver participation within the confines of the UIM was piss poor, Morten was our one and only.
We needed a mouthpiece and should have made efforts to get Tony Williams as our man, educated at the Sorbonne , spoke French like a native, loved the sport, and was basically honest. Could start an argument in a closed box with just him inside. Had risen up through the ranks the hard way, understood race boats------he would have been good.


Hamilton took pole (again), he has to start making use of it, you don't get any points for pole these days.

the cells are made to a design spec that is calculated on the force a similar class boat will produce if it hits you when you are stopped.
that all makes sense to me. They have crumple zones as well
But they forgot about the canopy
That killed the Italian in F2 a couple of years back when the boat went up but then rolled and landed sideways cockpit first

So what your saying Pilgtim is, boat cell design is far below the standard of F1 car design, right.

Can spend the morning in the shop, but this afternoon we go across to Herttsford to pick up two of the grandkids------they're staying with us for a week as its half term!
Need to get the Puey finalised before the end of play.
Will post a couple of progress piccies later in the day!

No the cell is ok but the canopy is a joke so water can get in and break your neck or a gearbox could change your grin
Some builders have gone away from the lid hinged at the front to WWII fighter style so front fixed and lid hinged sideways which seems much safer

Jackie, I really like this! and Gary Pugh would too! The motor is a dead ringer for a 6-banger Quincy Looper.

It never turned out quite the way it was meant to Roger-----one day this summer, I promise I will do a "Puey" concept worthy of being called that.
I'll leave this one as is with the spare outriggers-----I do have the top floor of the lake X tower, complete with round Windows ------if I stick a bent pole on top, it'll make a suitable stand.
Was too full of my own importance, and in too much of a hurry to make a decent job of this one.
Will stick on one side for now and put it in the "To be continued" box.

As my sainted mother used to say----"CLOSE ENOUGH IS ONLY GOOD ENOUGH IN HORSE SHOES AND HAND GRENADES"

Have ordered a couple of fancy blades from the U.S.------at $100 a pop they need to be good, nothing I have tried up to now have lasted more than rough cutting ONE sponson !
To get a half tidy result it's a grinding job by hand ------workshop's covered in snot and filings , looks like the bottom of a baby's Pram .
