Yes I remember reading at the time about paying passengers so they were eligible but seems not?
The big aussie built cats received it.
Perhaps they should have said G&T's on the outside deck every evening to qualify?

You know what Pilgrim——- when you’re THAT rich——— you can make your own rules——— bit like the AGA KHAN AND SHEIKH MUHAMMAD——- they even made racehorses run faster !
Horse produces enough semen at one jump to sire a hundred foals ——— charge $50,000 a pop and you got a nice little earner ?
On a gentle roll this morning—— Gene reckons There was a shedload of Naviquip on board Gentry’s Eagle !
Well ive been up to my fetlocks in SatNavs today—— plus a bit of artists licence—— even TG would have been impressed.
Not forgetting the Arneson ——- afraid there’s only one on this particular concept!
show you close of play Friday just how far I’ve come—— apparently it’s Easter this weekend ——- most folk make it a Friday to Tuesday inclusive bank holiday here in the UK—— we got visitors Monday and a family barbecue Sunday——— I’ll be hard pushed to get two full days in.

Had this old chunk of hardwood which was once a door sill——— made the Gentry eagle out of it.
Radar ball is the yellow out of a snooker set.
My only picture--
--and confusing for sure
This was taken right after the $500K Miami/NY Race--July, 1985----George Morales the winner--( in a a catamaran)--
Sir Richards Cougar Catamaran in the background---designed by Peter Birkett
http://i64.tinypic.com/hrh7r9.jpg
Only know what Pruett told me about the “ dodgy” side of offshore——- Morales owed Parkinson a large bag of gold——— but he was in clink at the time——- Parky said he paid him every last cent plus a bonus.
There was an awful lot of slush money being used under the radar of OFFSHORE.
PRUETT ran a yellow Maserati when he was with Ballesteros——- always had lots of the ready—— at home in Sarasota he was poor as as a church mouse.
Transatlantic crossing will always be a challenge————— fine for cruise liners——- hard for even a hundred plus foot raceboat traveling around Eighty !
Well, it is bloody Thursday innit ?
Did the car boot—— picked up a couple of useful bits—— solid day in the shop, should get shedloads done !
Isnt it amazing the vanity of polititians—— Suddendly, in 48 hours——- there’s a “BILLION”. EUROS in the pot to rebuild NOTRE DAME , and a nondescript French President who has never done one single useful thing in his life up to now——- spouting how he can rebuild the cathedral in five years!
What a total dingleberry——— it took 200 years to construct——— its fifty percent destroyed——- but Magic Miracle Man Macron is going to do it in five years.
There were thousands of craftsmen in those days. 800/900 years ago——- today there’s only a handful with the ability to rebuild the NOTRE Dame.
Cathedral was closed for over fifty years in the nineteenth century because it was deemed unfit to let people inside——- great big chunks have been falling off it ever since.
Its been falling down for years—— French are notorious for letting historic buildings go to ruin—-
all of a sudden they’re seen to be heritage heroes .
There’s been riots in the streets of Paris every weekend for the past year and Macron has done nothing.
Five will get you ten when he’s booted out of office, he’ll wind up as curator of the rebuild NOTRE Dame billion euro fund——- in a paid capacity of course.
the French just cant admit to themselves that France is broke as in the cupboard is bare.
The EU prints money and gets negative growth, they havent written the book on that one yet
Very true Pilgrim——- but they’re bloody good at blind mans buff and “ WOULD I LIE TO YOU”
Like all good magicians, a distraction can make way for an amazing trick.
Wonder if they got the MONA LISA out—— or was it lost in the inferno and wound up in a private collection somewhere ? Russia - China - Korea—- Dubai. .?

I have never sen this boat before Gene——- but it’s everything a concept constructor could wish for ( except the paint job —— that’s going to be a stone bitch !
So, what can you tell me about it ?
Says it’s a 47’ Apache——- looks to me like an offshoreboat should—— it just has to work !
Six wateri injected exhausts——- please don’t tell me it’s got three lumps !
im just not good enough to make legs that small and get away with it !
It had to Be, as one of the hardwood blanks looked just like an ’ “ Apache “. after I’d finished fernagling !
Ok Gene, so the original paint job was nothing like “KIMOSABE”—— that came later when it was converted to a “POKER RUN” boat ?
Three exhausts became six ?
i take it the five wires are “TRIM INDICATORS” ?
Might just have to do a transom only of this one——— I kinda like the complicated simplicity of it !
Hells teeth Gene——- I cant believe I’m daft enough to be even thinking about doing this, let alone being half way through the first part.
im like a bloody butterfly— leaping about from concept to object —— looks like I don’t have AIMS any more—— just FUNCTIONS!
Is that not the mother of all exhausts——— son Mark has a pair on “MOONLIGHT LADY” six inch diameter and sounds thunderous!
I wonder if anyone at Merc gives credit to Gentry ( RIP) for pioneering Turbos engines offshore
Ski racers in OZ also went down that road years ago.
Happy Easter Pilgrim.
After Mercury Had ousted Carl, the competition side went into a bit of a slide —- I don’t think they were about to hand out accolades to anyone for anything.
K.A.M. Came into being——- offshore - heavyweight- and successful——- ????
Mercury Had to step up the game with the stern drive packages.
Thanks, four kids—- eleven grandkids—- Twelve great grandkids—- the only Easter greeting I get is Pilgrim.
Did have a good day in the shop——- all I have to show for it is a three by two inch transom with three exhaust pipes three stern drives and a pair of trim tabs !
Smaller they come—- harder they are to do—— May do a gear case for ‘em, if I feel like it !
I’m up to my fetlocks in too many concepts at the minute——- seven to be exact.
Told you before I have to at least get a thought started before I forget it——- part of the ageing problem. There are times I just have to throw my hands up—— shout bollocks—- and walk out of the shop for a while.
Stop Press—- five minutes ago
Can share some great news with you——-grand daughter Case has just given birth to a girl—- WINNIE BOO——- she already has three boys.
This is my thirteenth great grandchild——— that makes thirty kids in my life—— feeling very blessed indeed !
No kewpie doll for guessing where Casey got her name from——— Her mother Tracy ( Boo to everyone )used to be good friends and idolised Velden .
Eldest Daughter Sandra always Thought Scottie was the dogs cajones.
All my kids we’re conversant with drivers all over the world—— girls stayed with the Rasinis—— The Hauenstiens—— The Seebolds—- those were the magical, golden days of power boat racing.
I've confused you Jackie--
I have no clue about the Kimosabe--
My involvement with TG covered a few years. some of the guys I worked with were LA firefighters--and of course--Richie-
This boat was completely restored recently
BEAUTIFUL!!!
http://i67.tinypic.com/dqr8l1.jpg
. Yes you did—- just a tad Gene—— now I’m up “Sh-t creek”—— and with no paddle !
Bugger—— it’ll have to be a “KIMOGENTRYSABE”——Pity, as - it was looking a bit of alright !
Not to worry Gene, I got another six to be going on with——- Gentryi’s—— Magoon—-you name em—— I’m doing em!
Here I go again—— Now Im into it with Willabee on his .”Hot Singles” thread.
Been friends for years——- a very knowledgeable individual on all things tunnel boat—— he asked me a question——— I answered ( to the best of my ability) and then get pissed on from a dizzy height.
Why don’t i just get on with my knitting ( as my sainted mother used to say)!
Easter Saturday—- I have another free day—- no visitors or interruptions—— that is if I don’t pull out a deck chair and sink into the latest DAVID BALDACCI for a while.
Temperatures here have gone through the roof ——- 75 yesterday and rising !
Here's a GM 6-71 for page 671 of your thread
Heavy and made it to 450hp at the end from the general.
70+yr production run says it all
1hp for each 4lbs but many passed from grandad to the grandkids
Bill Barry Cotter modified some vee engines for massive power in his class one boat. Fully computerised etc, uim banned them.
Uim are good at that pilgrim——- if they don’t understand—- Ban it !
Used to be an “ experimental” class for anyone with a bit of flair and imagination ——- remember Evian in the early sixties——— the Rasinis turned up with a tunnel boat——- won the twenty four hours hands down—— they could run—- but weren’t eligible for awards !
Got three hours in the shop, then spent the rest of the day at Lizzies, great barbecue in temperatures of eighty degrees in the back garden——— not a breath of wind.
Shorts in April—— unheard of for me——- usually it’s only July and August I get to bare the pins, afraid I’m a warm weather creature .
Did you make it back to The wilderness Gene—— is the MALIBUSTANG ready to do her stuff—- you going to take the fastback for a spin or put it on the market ? You have some exciting times ahead—- just get a bit of help with the fixed wing and enjoy !
Did a bit more on the Gentrifications——- most of the hardware is done—— just have to concentrate on the graphics.
Last day of the Easter break—— my Swedish friend Bjorn Christiansen is coming over for lunch—- Roast lamb, barbecued in Pernod—- flambayed ! One of Her Majesty’s recipes—— perfectly cooked by me !
You remember John Sheldon ? The guy responsible for building the OMC ROTORY——- he once told me that the only boat that they had to run it on was an Old Scottie——- can you tell me what year that was Johnno——- ?
Reason for asking is, nobody remembers Scottie building his own boats before 1972—— ( except me of course) maybe the little grey cells are going on strike—— I think they’re in good working order, but I would wouldn’t I.
So Johnno——- When did the Rotory make it’s first appearance——- on an OLD Scottie?
Happy Easter Johnno .
Pilgrim (POWERABOUT) is noticeable by his absence this morning——
I did get an Easter greeting from just a couple of friends and a chocolate egg from Lizzie—— oh well—— maybe next year !
Can’t lay here wittering away the day——- this wont buy the baby a new pair of shoes ( as my sainted mother used to say) I have places to go—— people to see—— concepts to finish!
Hi Jackie
work day in Singapore today, only Friday a Holiday.
Tough titty Pilgrim—- some days you eat bear !!!!!
Jackie: Rotaries were run on Scotti's in early '73. They were old Scotti's repainted to the infamous rotary paint scheme. Ill ask Jimbo when he first ran a Scotti.
Once went to the races in Singapore with the head honcho of Tiger Beer—— it was syndicated with Hong Kong and Kuala Lumper On massive screens.
Hot as hell—— but we were in the executive lounge—— fully air conned doncha know ?
They just do love pony racing in the Far East —— betting money was confetti !
Hey Ol' Cranky, no one said 1972. The conclusion I arrived at suggests that 1971 was the beginning of Scotti-Craft (check post #3893 on 'Hot Singles'). He and Jimbo ran them at Paris 71. He was still driving a Molinari as late as October of 70, so 71 seems logical.
I know you didn't ask me, but the answer to your rotary question is 1973. First at a press conference in Miami in February. Then at Parker in March for a couple of laps.
Have to agree with you Willa—— ‘71 SEEMS LOGICAL—— if you saw the Rotory on a Scottie in February. Of ‘73—— a ‘72 Craft would hardly be considered OLD—— but a ‘71 might be—— a ‘71 would definitely be considered old.
But—— how ’bout this ? —— if the boat I saw Scottie running on lake Como in October of ‘70 was one of his own making——— then it’s reasonable to assume it would be the following year before there were numbers delivered ?
Remember Scottie was a one man band with a chippie and a gopher at that time.
Attachment 436846
There you go Pilgrim —— altered the Warlord to Warpath, like you said.
Also, remounted it——- I really do look the new mounts———- simple and effective —— represents the world on a stage !
Attachment 436847
Managed to stitch the three drives and a couple of trim tabs on to the bum of the Gentry Eagle —— it’s a bit crowded but think I got away with it Gene ?
Easter was good for me —— got some quality time in the shop —- fair bit achieved— quite chuffed.
Guess that Carlsberg sponsorship counted for something. Jackie did you get any cars from Cossie ?
Attachment 436896
when Bill Brown parted company with Cosworth engineering —— he bought a fiat x something or other.
Id already done a deal whereby he kept the Burgess and alpha 1 leg in exchange for a brand fire new BDG two litre.
I was never part of the CARLSBERG deal !
Only car I had was a Lotus Elan I bought off Keith Duckworth.
Went Up there to buy a BRANTLEY helicopter—- I thought he wanted fifteen hundred for it—— turned out he wanted fifteen THOUSAND for it——— so I bought the Lotus !
Attachment 436995
WE NEED A BIGGER BOAT——— will this do Gene——- doubled the length of the cabin—- married a couple of outboards to a pair of stern drives and there ya go——— the boat that never was!!
Hi Jackie
whats the gossip with the 2 uk clubs vying for the UIM sanction now that the RYA has stepped out?
Cheers
It’s like this Pilgrim——- RYA never did much like inshore Powerboat Racing ( circuit)—- dragged its heels over every decision ever made- minimum help—- maximum hindrance.
Over fifty years ago Cyril Benstead ( commandatore Of LMBRC) broke away from the RYA and formed the BDC ( British drivers Club) aided and abbeted by Jaquie Benstead—- John Iddon—- Phil Toler—- and Anthony Needell. All under the wing of the RAC.
So for over fifty years there was discontent and unhappiness over the way the inshore power boat racing was handled.
Offshore was always the domain of the well heeled and famous and was occasionally allowed into the hallowed halls of THE SQUADRON, but even they were unhappy with the RYA —— which lets be honest is a SAILING club ( that tolerates but can’t stand Powerboats.)
So, the Offshore boys couldn’t stand it any longer and buggered off into the long distance and created their own ruling body ( which seems to be working well ).
Lmbrc has long gone ( overrun by sailing and fishing—— trojan horse again).—— Along with the Cotswold club at Fairford——- Chasewater isn’t the club it once was——- Lancashire is a lovely little club that keeps itself to itself—— most active and oldest is Lowestoft, home of Spalding and Percival.
( although infighting and politics could be their undoing) !
That leaves STEWARTBY- probably the newest club in England!
Daughter Kim is a member up at Lowestoft—- but I don’t have a lot of info for you at the minute— I’ll see what I can do.
