Whats the difference in the way a V bottom like the Allison in the pic handles with the small gearcase vs the larger cases?
A smaller gearcase/prop. is always better for top speed. A large production gearcase means bigger props and bigger prop. rides.

This was an 1987 2.7 liter that Al Stoker bored to 3.0 liter specs for me and I ported.
Ran 101 GPS @ 7500 on a 17’ Hydrostream and was a beast.

I am also interested to know the answer.
Not sure when the T2X came out but know the OMC race V-6 came out late 1973.
I don't know the Merc terminology, but the first Merc V-6 raced in Paris along with the OMC V-6 in 1973.
T2X is a in-line 6.
