Go to etsy.com - search Evinrude Signs - this sign is for sale.
Note: it's not a sign that Evinrude made, but a photoshop creation by the seller.
#29 Angelo Vassena. Great person/friend and boat racer.

Ralph Evinrude Test Center Gets A New Life
What was previously the Ralph Evinrude Test Center in Stuart, Florida will be the $80 million Atlantic Point Yacht Club & Marina. When complete in August of 2023, Atlantic Point will offer boaters multiple services on this 7.9-acre property. The marina will include 105 boat slips capable of handling vessels up to 160 ft and three buildings including: a 109,000 square-foot dry rack storage facility with a capacity of 456 boats up to 50 feet; a 6,510 sq. ft. single-story restaurant and bar; a two-story shipstore building containing the dockmaster’s office, a fitness center and a VIP lounge, all with expansive views of the Intrercoastal Waterway and downtown Stuart. (The property was purchased from BRP in 2020.)
Note that the artist’s rendering of the shipstore shows that the Ralph Evinrude memorial monument will be retained. The restaurant will ‘*reportedly’ *have a Test Center theme with photos, memorabilia, videos of the test boat drivers.
The OMC Test Center opened in 1966 as the saltwater testing location for Evinrude, Johnson and OMC Stern Drive products. Following Ralph Evinrude’s death the test center was renamed in his honor.

My racing memories from Bristol-Embassy GP
First time was 1977. My brand new black #40 UIM OE/F3 class Molinari/VP-Konig was extremely fast but lots of technical issues in my first race with Konig power.
Dieter Konig was a fun great man to work with.
First is Entry list Bristol 1977.

Shout Out to the Southern Outlaw Drag-boat Association. They put on an amazing event this past weekend at "The Shootout On Lake Dora" in Tavares, Florida. We met new friends and got to catch with old friends.
Hopefully we will see everyone again in July.

This is for Fuji who posted a picture of the 1951 Mechanix Illustrated magazine cover of one of the jumping boats at Cypress Gardens . This is me at the canal near the OMC Stuart test station with Hal Kelley's first designed & built tunnel. He sold plans for it. Stock 135 Evinrude. Photographer asked that I do more then 2 of the wave jumps. I refused, was afraid that I would stuff.
Full size pictures.
Thanks John

Evinrude - Johnson outboards. Facts, history, racing and OMC.
Lars Strom
We all know about the first and only Evinrude-Johnson F1-V8 3.5 Liter 2 stroke looper engine from OMC. This powerful, (still fastest in the world) race engine was used all over the world from early 1981 to late 1989.
What we don't know are all the drivers around the world who had the honor to race this beauty.
I am starting with the first five in Brodenbach, Germany in June 1981. (First ever F1-V8 race)
Please enter names as a comment and I will move the names up here later.
(Please..only drivers in a race..not private testing)
Roger Jenkins, Renato Molinari, Tom Percival, Bob Spalding, Cees Van Der Velden. (First five)
Jimbo McConnell, Barry Woods, Mark Rotharmel, Bob Hering, Mark Croslyn, Gene Thibodaux, Art Kennedy, John Nichols, Ben Robertson, François Salabert, Rick Frost, Gerard Barthélemy, Kicco Vidoli, Randy Pierson, Pete Nydahl, Lillo Colombo, Luigi Valdano, Francois Salabert, Jarno Hakkinen, Arthur Mostert, Lars Strom, Bertil Wik, Michael Werner, Saverio Roberto, Nicola Mora, Guido Caimi, Johnnie Sanders, Fabrizio Bocca, Tom Posey, Andy Bullen, Bill Marshall, Rob Woods, Allan Nimmo, Stefano Signoretti, Luigi Baggioli, Tom Henderson, Larry Everett, Duanne Wight, Ken Stevenson, Bob Wartinger..
..many more drivers is coming..

I have no idea, but having been close friends with Hal he was very ingenious. He did have a propensity to measure boats first before drawing & lofting them . His famous Airborne came after seeing & caught measuring the first Sid-Craft Hornet while we were all in a diner after a race in Lock Haven, including the rest of the family. He was the first to do an “S” bottom with his Ben Hur design. He designed & built the first off & sold the plans & initial write up to Mechanix Illustrated, owned by Fawcett publications where a relative of his was employed.
This tunnel was nothing at all similar to a Scotti as it was tunnel was considerably deeper.
It's mathematics
Well, surprised no Stock Outboard racer from the 50's era. The Airbourne was 1954, see picture attached. The one that was based on the Sid-Craft Hornet was the Jinx. The picture that I'm attaching was taken after the 1954 season E
We went together on Hal's trailer, we did. n't have one carrying my Jacoby on the roof of my dad's Hudson. I placed 4th in BSH, age 15, Hal didn't qualify for BU.. We started 16 boats in the final. Dave Kough of Hawthorne, NJ won the first heat, I was passing him to the first turn at the start only to almost blowing over, but saved it. Finished 6th that heat & 3rd the final heat. Two weeks prior at the divisionals I won & set a 5 mile competition record. The trophies were some of Hal's & mine for our career to date, I had only be racing 2 years. Notice the trailer with "Paint a player" ad. That was part of Fawcett publications.
Hal Kelly was a great boat designer. Here's his first tunnel 'AquaRod', from Mechanix Illustrated March 1971. Is that you driving too, John?

Good Grief…….. Look what you find going through a tote box!! Not sure when they were worn last……. A long time ago!! https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e...5/16/1f923.png
https://www.screamandfly.com/attachm...0&d=1655477752
Gotta laugh at these! Nobody wears "short" shorts anymore. Pretty much knee length baggy stuff (NBA).
I'd be more afraid of selling the plans to John Q Public and they try to duplicate what's in the photo!
I saw a couple of those raced in SJ class. They were not very competitive. I don't recall who ran them however.
Kinda big for SJ back in the day. The ROD might have done better but the RACER is too big.

The funny thing……. I never wore these in the Pits or anywhere around the Races. In fact, they may not have ever been worn.

I'm late to the game finding this FaceBook page, love ALL the memories. I'll add this pic of my Dad since it's Father's Day. He's known as a Merc man I'd say, but his last full seasons racing were in this Broughton/OMC rig. I believe this was taken at the Jacksonville Outboard Club course, '79? Great Page, looking forward to adding some more pics down the road.
