Chaz when your doing your passion you never work a day in your life !! I just hope some young kid comes along and you can teach those skills to the next generation !! Me personally, I'm gonna have to work up until lunchtime on the day I die !!!
As we are all excited to see these smaller cats get big O/B power a pair of 400r's on any 28' platform including Skater which now has 3 on order we can only hope no one gets hurt.
Our sport cannot have any more accidents. For those who insure these boats it is very hard and expensive. Having owned a 28' and spending a lot of time in less than calm conditions i cannot fathom running a boat with that much on the transom in anything than ideal conditions.
Like Joe said hopefully people will be smart about it.
I watched the Lanier run video last night and it chokes me up to think about how many peoples lives got turned upside down by something that was so easy to avoid. When you get into a boat that is powered over what you are used to running things just happen so much faster then anticipated. That along with the additional weight on these small boats is undoubtedly going to put guys into uncharted territory when it comes to the boat getting out of shape (I can attest to this after putting a stroked 300X on my most recent STV). " It is much different then a 260/280", the best analogy I can think of is riding an open class motocross bike in comparison to a 250. The speeds are the same but its a much different animal to control. The other thing "after watching that video" is the amount of drinking that takes place is not and should not be acceptable-everyone needs to save it until the boat is on the trailer or docked. I want to think that performance boating is why we do these events but if an outsider saw that video they would assume its for the party... Not preaching, just stating it as I personally see it.
Joe
Unfortunately Joe you are correct. Shaun Torrente posted something on OSO a while back about safety it did not receive many comments and disappeared quickly down the thread line. Seems no one really cares. JMO.
We have the next DW28 going in the mold. This one will be gray/silver with a black tunnel and call Tennessee its home.
Joe
What will be pushing it?
Joe are you part of Doug Write boat company? Just curious what your position there is. It seems that your involved in the production by a lot of your posts
Rob,
I am friends with Doug and when he designed and milled the 28 mold I knew that I wanted one. I had debated selling other stuff to stretch for a new 32 many times but I would for sure be limited to only having one boat and would be really going out of my financial limits if I did. So the 28 was something that I could make happen without depleting other toys and is a better size for the fresh water river running that I enjoy. The project was originally done for Rick George who passed away. I wanted to have Rick allow Doug to do a complete finish "polish of the molds" so that I could get one before the molds left but he wanted them sent to his shop in TX. because he already had boats sold to people in line ahead of me. John Hearn "who Rick worked for" now owns the molds and I committed to the first 10 boats at group pricing so that I could afford to get one as well. I will most likely continue to be involved with them as time goes on to help John as he is a really good guy but has his hands into a lot of other things besides his marine business that create personal time constraints.
Joe
Thats pretty cool. Best wishes man  Wish I could afford one. Maybe some day I will be able to
I purchased a Doug Wright /Fat Cat/ RGR /Climax Race Boat / Mercury Racing / Zeiger Steering/ Sturgis Interior Boat and I got sponsor money from NASCAR . After seeing Dan's boat when it was being rigged at Grants in Fl. and then went to see Dan at the Delta after it was done I was sold . I think he has 1 of the best looking boats I have ever laid my eyes on . I even asked Dan if I could use some of his interior choices . I love the size and 28 is all that my garage and boat house will fit . I have loved and owned Skaters and had talked to Peter about a new 28' but after seeing Dan's boat and how good it runs modern styling and getting the group pricing it made the most sense for me. The finish on Dan's is great and mine has come out great as well . I have made 3 trips to Fat Cat and several to Doug Wright for the new windshield and dash changes all with Doug and Joe's ideas it has come out great. I will be picking it up the week after LOTO and the rigging will begin . Next I will have to figure out docking with the full cap . The first few trips will be from my boathouse to Silver Glen no docking . I will add some pics later.
