Tricks that old racers get up to after retirement

Talk about a blast from the past——— Jimmy Meynell ——- Harry Northrop and I grew up together,.
In 1948 we took the train to Blackpool——— girl next door Shirley came along for the ride———- that was 70 years ago.
Jimmy married Shirley ———— Harry married a girl Betty——— they’re all long gone now !
Imagine my surprise when I got a Christmas card from Jimmy and Shirley’s daughter Anne, with a photo of Me—- Shirley and Harry taken in Blackpool!
Does kinda set the pulse racing a tad.
Try and scan it tomorrow——- I wasn’t always a short—— fat—— stumpy Little FECKER.

Where the hell did all the good looks go from those “WONDER YEARS”—— Jack-Shirley and Harry !!!

Jesus wept but was excruciatingly cold and pissing down at the car boot sale this morning——- methinks——- bugger this for a game of soldiers. Sat for five minutes, but the clouds were getting darker, turned round and went to the scrap yard. Picked up a rake of nuts and bolts and a piece of extrusion I need to make trim tabs.
Back home before lover boy had time to pull his pants up. ( Kidding.)
Garden lady wanted som plants——— I dropped her off at the garden centre, then went and had the Lexus F Sport washed-n-Waxed—- picked the lady up and came home——— that’s where we’re at!

What is going one with the Caldwell CRT 2.5? Isn't this the weekend of the debut?

All gone very quiet Bob——- I’ve heard nothing—- seen nothing!
Deeply disappointing——— usual Caldwell scenario——— promise lots— deliver little.
Another year goes ——— still no further down the road than we were three years ago.
Would have been nice if they told us occasionally what was going on——- we can all accept a few setbacks now and again, just fed up with broken promises .

Congratulations to Shaun Torrente on winning The F1 title .
Guess that broke Lasse’s heart, but he did score more points than Eric Stark !
One of his theories on Caldwell’s absence in Abu Dhabi is that Mercury have monopolised Fi and made it exclusively a brand issue———- ( Bit Like OMC did with the OZ series).
Now I may be wrong——- but I was under the impression that F1 was open to ALL engines within the cubic capacity allowed ? Regardless of creed or colour——— not long ago —— I think there was even a RUDE running the series———— but I don’t think it was that competitive.
Even Timmy Seebold ran one in the U S F1 races——- but gave it up as hopeless !
But on the other hand———- knowing what the UIM are like——- ( run with the hare and hunt with the hounds) it would not surmaze me to suspect there had been some dodgy dealing in high places.

As it was in first———— as it is today in second——- and the third —-setting the Oz world record with Hawkeye—- Malcolm Tyrrell—- Andy Chessman and ????—— I’m never going to be forgiven for forgetting the Windermere lads!

According to UIM rules, capacity is the only rule in the O series———- was the same in the FONDA series———— run what you brung, as long as it was under two litres.
Now whether or not you you have to have a homologated engine to race F1 today, I do not know!
Surely CRT were Never naive enough to make an announcement like that before double checking they were eligible!
Apparently ( according to Lasse ) the motors used today are obsolete—— two strokes—— no longer in production——- with no spares from now on——— Mercury of course which pisses him off anyway! Since RUDES have been dead in the water when it comes to competition and racing for nearly thirty years!
Dont have the answer to your question Pilgrim——- But I don’t doubt there are those among us who do!

Well, you know what Pilgrim——- 30F equates to two below——— that’s damn cold in any language.
Much as I love Lake Garda, going up into the mountains for Christmas doesn’t exactly thrill me.Was in Verona last year——- loved it.
Doing Venice and the Danube this year——— her who shall be ———- wants to go to the opera house and Salzburg——— Im Going for the cuisine.

Bloodhound——- the 1000 mph record car went into administration last October ( BELLY UP )—— now some “Entrepreneur “ has stepped in with a big bag of gold to get the project back on track.
Its years behind schedule and looked to be bound for obscurity——- well, it looks like it’s got an extension.

The Bloodhound never made it's 1000 mph run. The Caldwell CRT 2.5 never ran at Abu Dhabi, but Bluebird was able to spread her wings again...:thumbsup:

Richard Noble reckoned the 1000 mph was easily attainable with the BLOODHOUND configuration——- but the bloody project was hemoraging money with nothing to show for it—— just wonder how much cash has gone through the BLOOBHOUND turnstiles up to now ?

Mercury announced this beast yesterday———- 400 racing offshore—— have it on good authority it can be upped to 600 with a bit of reprogramming?

Oh well, it’s pissing down out there but nobody’s coming out to play——- May as well make myself useful ( as my sainted mother used to say ) .
Actually found my workshop heater——- you know who will soon be asking if I want a bed making up in the corner?

Nearly there——- Friday is the shortest day in England——- then we start to see the day’s getting longer. Maybe a stormy ride before we see the winter out, although it’s been relatively mild.
Even as a kid I disliked snow——- still do—— my kids and grandkids love it. And enjoy skiiing and winter sports——— god luck sez I.
Had a particularly good day in the shop——— trim tabs are looking good—— done the eight exhausts——- roughed out the pair of number six stern drives. Taken a bit more care with them this time—- hope to make the gearcases a bit special.
“SWIRLED” the transom——- brought back memories of the day’s when everything including the trailer was SWIRLED. Was surprised I still had some two inch discs left in the abrasives cupboard——- they must be over forty years old.
Ask any old fart if he ever swirled any of his kit——- the answer will always be “OF COURSE”.
