For all of us loving OMC racing this was the man telling you yes or no when it came to racing.
I got a few No..but more Yes from Jack Leek.

I have just been informed Clarence Blanchard passed 10/4/17. Clarence was the designer for Jack Leek and the race tem. The Darth Vader gear case was his design. He was involved in many of the race group program and was responsible for the first V-6 race motor that won Paris '73. He and Jim Nerstrom work closely together on many of the engine programs. May he rest in peace.
Yes very sad news Rotary John,
I got the sad news that Clarence Blanchard passed away from his son David and he also posted this picture below.
R.I.P. Clarence
To all my friends who knew my father he has passed away today (9/29) approx. 3:30 pm . We will miss you ! Service will be this Wednesday 10/4 at Hansens Funeral home . I will post time later

L to R Mike Galtney, Mike Kukla, Clarence Blanchard, Jimbo,Ted May, Mouse (Harold Wade). Rich McKinley, ? ? last 2 could be Ted May & Don Henrich
Rotary John..can you tell when and where the picture was taken.
Pretty sure that Ted May is standing next to Jimbo (5th from left) with his arm around Mouse.
You may be correct. Who is the guy second form the right?
Lars: Don't know either answer, but Mike Kukla died in late '74, early '75. My guess would be the early '70s at Parker or Havasu
It's from Parker, 1972. Jimbo & May won that race in the Scotti they are standing in front of in that Team picture. The Team picture is no doubt a victory celebration.
From the cover of Powerboat .....

WOW..Thanks a lot willabee.
I just talked to David, (Clarence son) and he was not sure.
Would that be McCune of Denver next to McKinley. I remember they co-drove together about that time frame.

love to know what projects he worked on and the last one?
#21 Paul & Dieter Jousseaume in Paris 6 Hours 1977. Velden/Evinrude V6 CCC 2.448 liter cross-flow
A bad year for OMC in the six hours that year. Molinari and all top drivers broke down and did not finish the race.
I was racing my Molinari/Penta-Konig and did very good but sank after 2 hours. A large hole in my beautiful black Molinari.
#61 Angelo Vassena won the OE class with his Molinari/Evinrude CC
Not sure who is driving the #19 in the picture. Not Jimbo. He was #35 that year.
You can also see Velden in his Drakkar/Merc boat.

Another lay-down tunnel. I think this is the Canadian Spencer Dunn in his #22.
Same power Evinrude CCC V6 2.448 liter cross-flow

This is the Briggs brothers Evinrude V6 SuperStrangler 2 liter cross-flow from Paris 6 Hours 1974.
The first picture show the #30 boat running and I am on the inside in the turn.
The next two pictures is after they crashed and lost a big part of the #30 boat.

Lars, what were the advantages of the lay down tunnel? More aerodynamic?
SCT..I think the reason for a lay-down tunnel boat is aerodynamics and lower point of gravity.
The major set back is visibility for the driver and my experience as a tunnel boat driver is you get the right feeling to fly the boat "thru you butt"..
If you lay-down all that goes away..
My Norwegian friend Birger Halsaa did it this way but still very hard to drive..
Click link below for more info.

My dads Sport E was like sitting in a lazy boy recliner, but like you said not as good of a feeling he blew his sport d and e apart.
I think the only lay-down boats that was really working was the OA up to OE hydro classes with konig power when all the racers used the same type of boat.
Hans George Krage of Germany was probably one of the very best.
Lot of guys getting more reclined due to the helmet clearance required in the safety cell which is very important.
Well..Thats the new 2018 UIM head clearance rule. We do not need to worry about that on this thread.

1977 was the year all the factory 2.5 crossflow engines had the bendix injection fitted and i think the red Molinari no 19 is Fred Hauenstine he drove with his brother Jim in 1977 as he was employed by OMC they did not want him to race and i am sure he had to buy the red Molinari and come over for the race in his own vacation time.
Thanks Steverino
1977.. the year I was outside the friendly OMC family, but a very interesting year in West Berlin and in the hands of Dieter Konig.
More from Paris 6 Hours 1977..
#21 Paul & Dieter Jousseaume's boat and Velden in his Drakkar.
Next is Renato in his #22 Molinari/Saffa/Evinrude CCC 2.448 liter cross-flow.
#35 McConnell/Sanders and theirs #35 Molinari/Evinrude CCC 2.448 liter cross-flow.

Paris 1973.
You can see from a mile away Bob Nordskog is driving boat #23 with Johnson Stinger GP V4 power..:)
Boat SE 58 is Dieter Schulze
http://www.screamandfly.com/attachme...7&d=1507540715
Here you can see the Johnson SE class engine Dieter Schulze used in Paris 6 Hours 1973.
This engine was only sold 1973. You can see the shift level on the mid section and the X-115 gear case.
The Evinrude model I used was called 65 SS.
I don't remember the name for the Johnson.
Not sure if this engine was sold in the USA.
