If it came off beautiful , perfect without any breaks try it again. Man, you need to check the R in the coils and the condition under the black rubber boot for cracks , breaks, carefully .I have had new coils that showed up bad. They throw them around like baseballs . When you torque the head bolts follow the pattern, and do it in three stages to a final 225 lb. in. or 19 lb. ft. with a good wrench.

The boat gets compliments everywhere it goes though! Everyone seems to think it's out of the 1950's / classic styling! haha. Then I say it's a 1995 bayliner, and just really slow on keeping up with the times.
My next 3 weekends are looking busy, So i'll be limited to mid-week outings. New coil should be here tomorrow, and maybe I'll get to take her out again.
On this killing coils. Is the old stator still on it? I know late 80's Force had stator issues. My 88 125 had the bad stator/power pack killing issues. Replaced stator Merc up grade, and zero problems since. Know that motor is newer, but tossing this out for info.

Ran fine all the way out. I'm at 4 turns out on the idle mixture screws, and I have great throttle in the midrange. I think it was lean and starving before I turned the screws out. It's funny, when Idling on the muffs, it runs the same @ 1 turn out, all the way to 5 turns out. No change. It maybe idles 100rpm lower, but that's it.
The only hiccup I've had was when I came back into the harbor into the no-wake zone. Every once in a while, the motor sneezes @ idle, or slightly above idle. It died when I came back in, but started right back up after a couple cranks.
To Do list - Still need to increase compression.
Fill up next @ 50:1 oil. I'm currently at 25:1 still, and
I wonder if I should open u the idle screws another turn and see how it goes. Maybe I need to go up another Jet size for the pilot. Maybe I should go up on the main jet size also - - -
I'll do another compression test this week and see if it's increased at all. If not, I'll pull the cylinder head and have it cut down some more.
Have U considered running 25:1 will effect air/fuel ratio.
I completely ignored this thread until today, that boat came out really cool from where it all started. Nice work.
Of course! It's still in break-in mode. It's only got a few hours on it so far. 1st tank went through it, and I'm only on the 2nd tank. (~18 gallons). My next fill-up will be 25:1. I'm not going to change anything until I do that.Quote:
