Here are some pictures of Skip Talbot's boats. The Valkyrie blew over late 66 testing with Ron Jones. Ron rebuilt it as a pickel fork, and painted it white. Skip ran it like that a few times, but then had the accident in his Stylecraft, seen in the garage. We lifted him in the boat for the NDBA Nationals in 1967. The single engine Jones was ordered sometime in 66. This was the day he got it. He was quitting racing because his leg was pretty bad, but said Jim Johnson was going to run the single. Skip was pretty bumbed out about his physical condition. He had just gotten married also. I left California late Dec 67. He sold his Oceanside Cycle Center, gave the Valkyrie back to Mercury, and moved to Fallon, Nevada. There he started building guns. He is credited with starting the .50 cal civilian shooting division in the US. He held many records, and died at his stand on the range. He was a very talented and kind man.
Trying to remember when Don Clark passed, couldn't find answer on the internet .....

If this is the Jim Johnson from CA is who I'm thinking it might be, he now lives near Roanoke, VA. He & his son Jimmy now race rc boats with me here in IMPBA D-12. Helluva nice guy & an absolute wizard with boat setup & a fierce competitor!! Proud to call both he & his son my friends, I have contact info if you are interested.

When you see him, ask him if he worked with Skip.
I'll call him shortly & find out. Fairly sure it's the same Jim, he & his son mainly race rc ob tunnels now & raced full scale tunnels back then. His son Jimmy recently set a straight away record of just over 80 mph with a .45 cid ob tunnel - that's correct, just under 1/2" cubic inch!
Boat weight in single digits, fuel load in ounces. Fuel "slightly" different also, somewhere around 60+% nitro, 12% syn. oil, rest methanol - can you say rocket fuel.....
Hey Butch - I tried to enlarge it, but the resolution is so poor that it becomes hard to read. No, no relation to Johnny V.

Willabee: as the years go by they seem to flow together but I think Don passed about 15 years ago.
