Did this thing ever get airborne???
Many times... Convair XF2Y-1 Seadart seaplane fighter. I think three were built in total, one lost in flight during a pretty extensive test program. One of the survivors sits on a pole outside the San Diego Air and Space museum.

I nice display boat. Jim Apel built alky boat with a 1960's style Mod Merc motor. In competition, it would be too tall to handle well (notice how much taller the motor is than the cowling on the boat) and not enough power for the boat. Best right where it is - on the trailer.Quote:
