Rear steering bar attachment was a complete mystery to me with nearly all makes of OPC racing engines. Kinda an afterthought in my book? Merc had dedicated lugs on their V6 racing mid sections but everything else (especially the sport and family classes) either forced racers to pull their powerheads to install longer studs or somehow put steering arms between the mid section and powerhead requiring (again) longer studs and mid section exhaust gasket So how was this done on this G2? Was the side flank cowling cuts done by trail and error? Merc's early "V" bolt and "T" block pulley attachment was a nightmare to me. I was very happy when somebody decided to used a machined clevis and eyebolt assembly. Those crazy circular bearing blocks (Merc steering arms) couldn't have been cheap to make? I wonder if those bearing blocks had some other purpose before their use in steering arms?
We made plenty of steering wings for the production V6.
Heavy duty studs replaced the powerhead screws to attach the wings.
Here is a picture..the wings was made of stainless steel.
Not sure how the ones for the G2 is done but pretty sure similar.
