Maybe Mickeylarge will post on this soon. I have a sportmaster and run closer to the surface than you can with your case. He has done real good with a Trophy. Let him tell you which one he thinks will work for your application.

I am no prop expert, but these boats are fairly large for what they are so I like 4 blades myself. Trophy's do work, you can get them fairly cheap, and they are a good all around prop. Definately not the fastest prop out there but if you can pick one up for 200-300 bucks how can u go wrong. Heck I went 80 on a 120 dollar trophy!!! I am looking into getting my hands on a 14.5x 28 4 blade pro e.t. I think that is the ticket for me
Thanks Mikeylarge, I already ordered a 26P 4 blades, I'm not looking for super high speed right now, I dont have LWPU, so for next season I will come back with either nosecone or a sportmaster to see what can I get out of it. So for now it's fun time. Be safe guys!!
The trophy 26 is a real good prop on the Velocity. I have seen 80 with a225 etec but the rpms were too much so i opt to run a 26 raker that brings the rpms down to below 5800.
I think Mikes (mikeylarge) is an 85 and mine is too.
Yup, mines an 85 but its too slow. It needs more power!!
The 85's and 86's are a lot lighter, around 1,200 lbs according to early literature. My 90 is 1,900 lbs accoring to the marketing literature. I think a lot of it is up front in the bunks and the rigid deck. The deck has very little flex with my 215 lb butt walking across it.
The 97 and newer are almost a different boat compared to the 85 and 86.Other then hull they share ver little from what I can see.The deck on my dosent flex at all.Id campare the 85,86 more to a Checkmate starflite then to a later model 22 velocity.Seems a guy needs at least 25~50hp more to run the same speeds as the older ones.I'm not sure bout the regals and how they run but they seem to look closer to the earlier ones, then the newer. This 98 of ours is solid as a rock that's for sure.
The earlier ones were lighter the on in question is a 1986 kevlar lay up. James gang has a nasty fast velocity with lots of power and I cant even touch that boat. I am sure there is alot more left if I got jack plates and set backs but I am happy with just having a family boat right now.... not racing too many people anyway. I believe they run the best with a couple of foot chop... then hold on and juice it. Maybe Evinrude will have a 300+ motor to play with someday. I would love to have one of these in the triple digits. Either way they are a fun economical boat that will still challenge most of the big boys when they least expect it. P.S. Mikey large watch out I'll run the faster prop at the Romp this time....
I agree, the newer velocity are a bit heavier...I would have a difficult time keeping up with the guys that own the lighter versions.
Velocity 3.6GT-Thanks for the Heads up, you might need more then just a prop to catch me though ;-)
Hey Guys
Sound like we got a race coming.
As far as the 300 Evinrude. All I have to say is with snowmobiles Bombardier is a relentless competitor. I'm an Arctic Cat guy and the back & forth with SkiDoo has been brutal over the years. I really think Mercury is gona have their hands full with Evinrude in the near future. I bet they will go beyond 300 and take the lead in HP. OK! I guess its time for everybody to start yellin at me now.
There is no doubt in my mind that the etec's are great motor's. They make good power, and stand up to some tough abuse, but Merc 3L parts wll have to be extinct and far gone before I put something different on my transom!!!!! My boat will see every bit of 85 mph with that fishing motor bolted to the back of it. Who wants to place there bets that it wont.... Hell running 79 and change every day is boring already LOL
Hey Mike
For now I'm with ya. I love my Mercs but if they came out with a 400 and Merc doesn't have anything to compete, that may catch your interest. 3 400s on my Sutphen would be cool.
Mike,
I just ordered a Turbo TXP OT-4, it's very similar to the Trophy but it has a little more diameter. 13 3/4 vs. 14 3/8.
As you know I did well with the Turbo 3 blade 25P.
I am thinking a 26P and a 4th blade should help lower the RPMs, I am on the rev limiter now. I think when I had the 3 blade serviced they took some cup out.
James- 400 hp that weighs in close to the weight of a 2 stroke v6 gets my vote too! But until they produce it im keepin my merc!
HighVelocity- I just ordered a new prop also, I will keep you guys posted
Mike I'm not talking 4 stroke. Its gota be a 2 stroke or it will be too heavy.
4 strokes belong in the boat.
My friend eric (87starflite on here) and I ran the boat tonight. There was a pretty good wind kickin out of the southwest, and i had to run down the channel next to ocean parkway to find some semi decent water. Video proof 74-75mph with 2 guys and heavy on fuel running through rough stuff
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqhFoi51Rzs
And yes the camera angle absolutely sucks
Whats the take on props.Ive been running a trophy plus and tried a tempest plus and felt that carried the bow very well as well.3 blade seems to run just a bit more on the top end.Anyone run any of the 3 blade turbo props with any luck or a ballistic or any other besides the tempest that may be another option?THanks Aaron
Mike come to the dark side...... Hope to see ya at Schroon. Bring your A game...
If I remember correctly I walked off on you multiple times, with my father in the boat, I think your the one who needs your A game not me.......... LOL
Schroon is cancelled, and I couldnt make it anyway. Come down to Molefest and run in the real water!! Forget that freshwater nonsense
That was in teh channel which was partly sheltered by a barrier island. That was the smoother of the water.
Velocity3.6gt- If memory serves me correct i started be hind you more then once and ended up in front of you still pulling away more then once.......... Dont worry I will be on my A game next romp dont you worry
Velocity3.6GT.......

BRING IT
Nice pictures thanks for sharing!!
Mike,
I put a brand new Turbo TXP OT-4 on my boat and ran 73.1 Yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I first started testing it I hit 70 very easily. So yesterday the conditions were great, nice chop, no wind really. I am so excited, it's like driving another boat. I love when you hit a wave and skip over the next 3...hahaha. The prop is 14 3/8 x 26P,,Bow lift is incredible for this hull.
Ed
Congrats,
my 26 OT4 runs about 5700 rpm-79 Mph with my 300 XS (1:75). This winter I will go for a B&B Turbo OT4 26" and 6000 rpm.
The Turbo Txp OT4 is a lot heavier to spin than a Bravo or a Trophy in the same size.
/Patrik
Off Topic but here is my numbers on my 1994 V22 Stepp Kevlar:
Prop Height 1" under
Motor 300 XS
Set back 7"
Gear Ratio 1:75
Best ever 79 Mph with a Turbo OT4 26" at 5800"
I have also noticed my V22 is very sensitive have much gas who is in it.

Powerplay25, I understand your doubtful.
My two props this summer has been a 26 Bravo and a 26 OT4 and the Bravo spins 200-300 rpm more than the OT4. I have heard that they are bigger than the numbers they put on the prop.

Like Mikey Large,,, I am running a 2003 225EFI 3.0L fishing motor...haha I have a 12inch Bobs hydraulic plate.
Prop is a 26P 4 blade by Percision Propeller. It's lighter than a Bravo and weighs about the same as a Trophy,,,but because of the diameter, it works great on my set-up. It really digs and pulls the bow up with the set back. I am very happy with it...
Also, my hull, like Mike's has the very thin top deck...1996 hull, bullet is about 2 1/2 below the pad. 1:75 ratio.
Highvelocity- There is still alot of speed to be found in your setup...TRUST ME!!!!
I cant wrap my hands around that 80 mark again, its frustrating. She will run 79 and change just about every day I go out, I just cant find that extra mph again.
I may get 75 out of her with a little work on the new prop.
But I am thrilled at 73.1...and still being a full rig...(2 batteries, 2 amps+subs, beach chairs, coolers, ladder, trim tabs and pump, jack plate pump,) and 26 gallons of gas in her. Not to mention I'm back up to 235lbs...hahaha.
The cool thing is she is a true 70 mph boat now.
Venomous- Good idea!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
HighVelocity- I can still run a solid 77 mph with close to a full tank of gas and my 250 pound father sittin next to me. Keep striving for those extra mph, they have to be there!!! Still a solid 70 mph boat is doing great compared to alot of the other velocities.
