The $2500 claim is just for the engine. but an original boat with a v4 is going to be very cheap

Just goes to show you don’t take a lot of notice of what I say Pilgrim———- I started racing at club level and we raced everything that that turned up——— inboards, outboards from 18hpRudes to 70hp Mercs, Albatross——- Delta——- Fenn and Woods. If you hauled a boat up to Iver at the weekend—— you got to race it three times. Laps were just over a minute for a really quick boat, and they were twelve laps in a heat.
Had some of the best times of my life club racing. Would take the five kids and chuck em in the back of the van on a Friday after work——-hook up the boat and away.
Friends I made there sixty years ago, are still friends today.
Valleyfield and Parker were run on those lines——- just turn up and they would fit you in.
I never altered my mind on that view——-
No such thing as a free meal or cheap racing Pilgrim——— equipment may have a lower price tag, but if you have the desire to be a front runner, then you have to put TIME AND EFFORT into it.——- both of those commodities are costly.
Can see no sense in caring for a motor, nurturing, tuning,balancing——- spending time and effort and knowledge, go out and win the race, only for some joker with a fistful of dollars to come along and say “lIll take that”!
In the sixties, we used to run events with “Claimer” rules, but they were never popular with the drivers.
Thats if you got the motor for free in the first place !, and had another in the shop that also cost you “NIXYPLONK”——- Sounds good in fiction——-but the reality is, in real life, everyone’s an Antiques Dealer and greedy! Nobody gives anything away these days———- even crap has a hefty price tag these days——- its a wicked old world out there Pilgrim! You should come with me on a Thursday or a Saturday morning to the car boot sale, most of the dealers imagine they have a stall in the west end of London inside Harrods.
There maybe thousands of tri hulls with a 140 Rude on its bum hidden away in barns - cellars and back yards, but when it comes to finding them, it’s a bit like searching for a Ferrari Dino or a Duesenburg—— rare as rocking horse sh-t.!
Re scribe.....lost it somehow!
Just noticed that it was Rotory John who wrote me a post, not Powerabout——- how sad is that ? Many apologies Johnno——-when you and I “Get into it” you must know by now I’m only pulling your chain so to speak——— I’ve always had a sneaking admiration for what you did in the Outboard world with the Wankel——- course, I couldn’t ever admit to it ! THAT WOULD NOT BE PC.!

Offshore——- unlimited—— Superboat—— Poker run——— it’s anything you want it to be——— but nothing in particular——— took me best part of a week .
Most of all, it kept the little grey cells from closing down——— kept the arthritis at bay and stopped me moping aboutin in a chair, reading a damn book I have no interest in at all.
I spend enough time on the I pad already———- found out I can piss people right off, without even trying.
Have enough metal to build a battleship——- Grandson in law Gary ( GIECO )keeps me supplied with abrasive discs.
Can just about afford a few simple essentials in life, like Canadian Club and Jack Daniels and Tanqueray occasionally.
Good job I don’t have to rely on the sale of “Concepts” ——- I would be bloody thirsty if I did!

Man you should see the opium buds on these Tibetan poppies———have to hand it to her in charge of the garden———- she only grows the best ? Told her not to worry——- I’ll clear the dead heads ?

Same thing with her roses——— just have to work out how to bottle the scent these three centred beauties produce.
Here ‘Tis again —- Thursday, and you should all know by now what happens on a Thursday———- never thought of myself as a creature of habit but———-, if the lord would only gea us the eyes to see ourselves as others see us !
It’s an old Scottish proverb attributed to Robbie Burns——— one of my sainted mothers more printable remarks!
Craig and Jess, together with the three boys are staying in Covent Garden
( centre of London) for three days——— I catch up with them on Saturday afternoon at a get together of the clans at the “TITCH” in Loxwood.
Gotta go, have to see a man about a dog——- sainted mother again !
Happy Birthday Roger Hinsdale——— stalwart”OLD FART”. Collector of old boats and motors——- builder of old outboards——- he kept me going in Canadian Club for quite a while————- he has a fair number of my early concepts.
Have to tell you Rog, I’ve gotten a whole lot better since those early days !
No word from Pilgrim this morning——— don’t know if he’s under the weather, or simply pissed at me!
Dont remember saying anything controversial lately——— did put the idea of a roll bar on a P1 boat about——- answer I got was mainly SEX AND TRAVEL F—OFF!
Most thought it was a bloody silly idea and would compound the problem——- all agreed there has to be a safety cell in a P1 and pretty damn quick.
New composite Hull is seven miles an hour quicker than the old one ——— but drivers complained of the boat being ” SQUIRLY” —— so the motor was lowered to shade off some of the speed!
Expect to hear from”Powerabout” any time now !
Agreed, on all points Pilgrim——- Designer had to be SUMO wrestler that had just lost heavily——-stepped hulls are the “IN” thing !——- there is no such thing as the “RIGHT COMBO” for beginners!
My son Mark was reminiscing on the fact he attended the funeral of seven drivers in one season——- most of them were Tunnel boat drivers with a top speed of less than 75 mph——- long before safety cells, canopies and seat belts were even a thought bubble !

grandson Gary Stray has just constructed this for the Smithsonian ——— I put my head in the oven, kitchen goddess reminded we are all electric——-and to get the hell out of her kitchen, Duh——Dingleberry!
Dont you just hate smartarsed relations—— WTF they just can’t do a simple day job like running the Gieco race team, and leave model making and concepts to old retired boat racers simply beggars belief !

He built you an new Cosworth engine for the tunnel...:thumbsup::thumbsup:
I should be so lucky Bob——— that just is never going to happen—— prices for any of the Cosworth DFV—— DFX——- Have gone through the roof———- I’m resigned to the fact that a motor that is in the region of $100,000 is not going to happen in my lifetime !
I don’t know what the answer is———— unless we could locate one of the various engines that were sent over for the unlimited effort ——- even the one Bentz ran in the Miami Marine Stadium——— Or even one from the Cart series !
Rocking horse sh-t is in abundant supply compared to a Half tidy DFV ,
That would be a great engine in incorporate into a concept Hodges tunnel. You know...something like this one... I wish I could remember the drivers name, but it escapes me...

Funnily enough Bob——— I did a concept of this boat with a V8 Engine —— Mercruiser Alpha leg and a wing, on a four wheel trailer for Gary a couple of years ago !
Have been offered various engines at really advantageous prices ——— Ilmor——— Maserati—— American Ford——— and Ford Cologne. Problem is ——- nothing else will do——- it simply has to be the DFV.
Been doing a few mods to the twin Outboard job————chopped the screen in half——— just didn’t sit right somehow!——- I like the Mount——- Just needs some graphics——- been years since I bought any Vinyl stick on letters and numbers, my etching leaves a lot to be desired, suppose I ought to practice some!
In the process of doing twin banks of four exhaust pipes for the Poker boat—— doesn’t mean to say they will actually make the boat———— I’m chucking more stuff away than I use these days—— must be getting fussy in my dotage.
photos's so big I can tell what he set the timing at...
Difference between “Ratbags” ( Gary Stray) working Tom Thumb sized motor and my agricultural “Concept” is—— his will be housed in the “SMITHSONIAN” for the next seven years and he won’t be able to touch it———- whilst mine, will be fully visible on the shelf in my workshop, and I get to work on it any time I like, before packing it away in a tea chest and retiring it to the garden shed where it will join the other hundred or so former creations including——-
MALIBUSTANG——— WILLABEE———- FIVE SAILBOATS———— !?!?!? Etc, etc, etc.
I know my place !
I cannot believe the dumb, mindless, stupid idiots that are amongst us pretending to be politicians !
They vote to put in a third runway at Heathrow——- that’s already a quart in a pint pot——— without thinking that people in London affected by the noise may be a tad pissed off. The moment they realise this,———— Er maybe I should vote against this ?——- the motion will be chucked out because the government will not have a majority———— all the millions they spent deciding Gatwick or Heathrow will be lost because of their stupidity———- it’s a no brainer ——— they should just have asked me.
Good morning everybody——- you all ready to face a brand new day?
I thought people live near airports because they like planes?
They are so quiet these days they want more planes over them as they miss the noise of the Concorde and the Comet
You better ask those that live there the question———- I’m a country boy, always have been——— neighbors are just people to fall out with ! last aeroplane I heard was weeks ago when I flew to Rome ! I don’t have any issues———- I just live well away from airports and flight paths. Having said that Pilgrim——— the Goodwood Spitfire has been up and away these last few days ——— but that’s different!
Last summer, they had a get together of all the Spits left in the world at Goodwood———- I think it was thirty two !
All but one were in the air at one time——— think I heard that around a hundred a week were produced during the war !
There is not another sound in the world like that of a Rolls Royce Merlin at WOT ——— some liken it to the Dinosaurs death rattle—————— don’t even ask Pilgrim!
a Rolls Merlin in hydro at 4000rpm making 4000hp
( of course they have rods from an Allison 1710 to do that, sorry the Americans hot rodded them)
I’ll give you that Pilgrim but the Americans had piss poor performance before we supplied them with Merlins

Had one of my. Mad fits of depress———Decided I needed to mount the two latest concepts on polished glass——— worked out ok ——- honing my etching skills !
That’s me done for the day——— car boot in the morning——- catch up with Craig, Jesse and the boys tomorrow afternoon .
Then take it one step at a time———- I kept the weekend and Monday free, just in case.
Tuesday we’re on a plane to the south of France——— need a break doing nothing in particular, time to clear the old think box——feelishould change direction and do something new, but imbuggered if I know what !
When I get there I’ll let you know!
it was all from a mathematician / fluid mechanics guy that joined Rolls and said is that what you call a supercharger, how about design it like this..
Dr Stanley Hooker, genius.
They never looked back after he joined, until he retired and the RB211 bankrupted them so he came back and fixed that.
yes the narrow Vee water cooled is the engine for a fighter, the yanks did have more powerful engines like the PW2800 at 2000+HP but its huge.
Ask any fighter pilot in the USAir Force what he thought of a Rolls Merlin——— his answer will always be the same———— it made the Mustang into a fighter instead of a carrier pigeon——- in fact, rumour has it the P51 was quicker than the spitfire! ( but there’s no confirmation of that ).
