Paris Six Hours 1969.
When I started FONDA ( the original Formula 1 series ) I had to talk to people who ran races in most countries, one of the most supportive was Msr. Bladinaire, he encouraged me a lot, David Parkinson was the most honest man ever to grace powerboating and eventually took over from me, but not before I got to know Msr Bladinaire. So I got it straight from the horses mouth, not second hand Lassie, I KNOW Bladinaire could not be bought, unlike the Commodore of the LMBRC, LEN BRITTNELL ,who could and WAS bought by OMC.
If you want to know the details-----I will tell you Lassie about the underhand tricks of OMC on that particular occasion.
After 25 years of being a club member, I got into a flaming row with Len, and left the club , he sold his soul to OMC

I sit back, shake my head and chuckle reading this stuff put out by OMC supporters and ex employees making it sound like Mercury owned the UIM and APBA dictating policy while OMC had a halo over its head. I was not at Mercury in the early 70's but was later and from my perspective both sides played the politics and played it well. Sometimes Mercury won and other times OMC did. From my perspective OMC always had the upper hand with much of their senior staff being involved in both organizations for years. Neither company is, in OMC's case was, perfect but the stakes were high so a lot was done to gain the upper hand. I'm not going to get into a back and forth on why races were won or lost but I will say that it seems typical of OMC always making excuses when they lost or didn't get their way. But the fact is when they did lose it was most often because they were flat out outrun. The times they did win was usually because the faster boat broke. I'm not saying that was the case all the time and will also say Mercury did its share of complaining and took its share of lumps on the race course but that is racing.
That's my two cents and I'm sticking with it.

Lassie, I do not "twist" the racing history around Paris, I tell it the way it is or was, I never had access to the rose coloured specs that you seem to be wearing where ever OMC is concerned.
I can give you a full account of how OMC bought the commodore of the London club before the world championship at Holmepierpoint, I can tell you how they totally abandoned my son Mark after his horrendous accident in Casale, I think OMC were a deeply devious, doubtful and dubious outfit at that time, and have a fairly comprehensive knowledge of what went on in the /70/ s and early eighties.
You will stick to your version of events and I will stick to mine, difference between us lassie is, I know Mercury were not all sweetness and light, but you wear blinkers where OMC are concerned
A raced Paris Six Hours from 1973 to my last race 1986 and was pretty close to what was going on with politics around that race.
I also know from experience that this discussion does not lead anywhere.

Lassie-------Awesome collection, far more than I ever had.
Bedford (Bud) Davies came to my house in 1974 after the Paris 6 hours, we became good friends over the years.
He paid for flying the Cosworth out to Parker. I introduced him to Garbrecht, and he financed the world outboard record attempt with GG.
He also ran in Paris in the 1930/s. In a lay down hydro, financed Kevin Desmond with his "Outboard History
Believe he owned a small company------Westinghouse I think it was called.
