Merry Christmas to you all, Rick.
I have a cousin named Al Holub whose parents owned a place at Sumava Resorts on the Kankakee River. Al, who spent his life after WWII in the marine business and racing "F" hydros first used to run his hydro on the Kankakee when he was a kid. Sumava is down river from Shelby. I cut my teeth on that river also. Anyone out there know Al Holub? He is retired now and lives in Tampa.
Merry Christmas to you all,,,,,,,, I am back on the puter...missed he storm but had to stop and have a fuel line unclogged....made the trip to Florida ok,,,,,spent time with Carl & Jean Moesly ,,,, great visit,,,,,Saw family and friends that I went to school with and found my way back to Texas...
I will have time to dig up some old pictures and tell what it was like to ride to Nassau in an eighteen foot Jones Cat....
I enjoy all the stories...great job Steve
Welcome back Bobby - Glad to hear you missed the storm. I,ve been through a couple of those rascals, but nothing like that one. Although, I did fly into Homestead AFB the day after Hugo. There wasn't a single leaf remaining on any tree. I am guessing somebody on this thread probably rode that one out. Best Regards - Steve Sirois
Bill - I don't know if you read post #9 on this thread, but my brother's (Bill Sirois) 1st job in boating was at Sarasota Marine. That was a Mercury Dealership owned by "Al Holub". I also worked there for a short while, mainly sweeping floors and cleaning up. I doubt that we are talking about the same Al Holub, but it is certainly not inconceivable. If it is the same one, he would have to be at least in his 80's. Also, it would be incredibly ironic that he ran around on the same Indiana waters that my brother spent time on. 2 years ago I took my wife to Indiana to see where I came from. I remember Schneider and the Sumava Resorts. It's a Small World - Steve Sirois

Wild Wil - do you remember what you paid for it?

Jeff not really sure but for sure it was less than $50 for the two of them. I will post some more pics on the Merc Treasures thread of other things I found.
btw this is a great thread....
Hope you found them well, I know they missed the last Classic SeaCraft reunion because of some colds. Any of you guys would be a fun addition by the way and they make much more HP we can put on those 20's and 23's , my 20 has a 200 Merc XRi. Next one will be in April at daughter Carlas new place in Key Largo, would love to sit around and listen to some stories with you guys and Carl, one of the most endearing men I have ever met.
Here's the Man recieving a crystal placque I had made up for his 86th surprise birthday on Anclote Key from SeaCraft owners.

Mike Butler - I got your e-mail, but it has not shown up in S&F as a PM. I would definately like to have the pictures you offered. Please try PM again and include your e-mail address. The e-mail address in the message that I recieved came back as an error. Best Regards - Steve
Found a picture of johnny and phil in the #48 boat - hope I haven't posted this one already.
jeff
I thought this was a sweet looking boat!
In the last picture, out of focus on the very left side behind the engine looks to be the starboard cockpit cover of a wing, possibly the Switzer mentioned in Odell's note on picture #2.
Does anyone have any info on this boat?
jeff
I know what it is and have been waiting to see it for years ... thanks!
I'll try to find the pictures of its sisters and post a link
That looks like the Molinary that Roy ran in the Gold Coast marthon and won the single engine class plus being high in the over all. That's not Roy in the picture......'65-----'67 some where in there...
Not much help......
BobbyR
Hi guys,
These are all from 1966.
jeff
Here is another shot, probably in its final race configuration.

OPEN COCKPIT MOLINARI
ONE OF THE FIRST RACES I RAN AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE ARMY IN LATE 1967 I DROVE ONE OF THESE MOLINARIS I PICKED THE BOAT FROM LAKE X AND WAS TOLD TO BE REAL CAREFUL CAUSE THIS IS THE "OLD MANS" BOAT. IT HAD A REGULAR MERC 1250 ON IT. THE RACE WAS AT PELICAN HARBOR YACHT CLUB. I LED MOST OF THE RACE BUT WAS NOT CAREFUL ENOUGH AND BLEW A HOLE IN THE TUNNEL. I MADE IT TO THE DOCK AND IT SANK.

Another early Moli in Europe:

The original shots have an 1100SS, not sure what it was racing with.
jeff
Pretty sure it is the same type motor. In 1968 the 1250 came out and it didn't have the chrome handle on the top. The 1250 also had a lot more red on the decal.
A Molly very much like that one showed up around Houston in the late '60. Richter I think had it for a while. The last account I had of it, Kenneth Mann had it. The # then was 501 and it was red & white. Gene Piehl may have had it sometime in that span. The boat I remember had a "Bad Habbit" of barrel rolling in corners. It did a 360 on Kenneth at Bayshore boat race in '68 or '69. A funny story goes with that roll. Kenneth said after he "flipped" his foot was caught in the steering wheel and he thought he was going to drown. So he took a hard lunge back under (he thought) the boat to free his foot and realized the boat was upright and that he was hanging over the side with his head stuck in the water. Said he felt a little silly when he saw all the boats going by him.

Here is one more.
Back in post #530, Steve wrote a little about Gulf Wind and Odell.
