Hi everyone, I have not posted much here on the forums. Mostly just lurking, looking at all of the amazing things people are doing . Here is a picture of my old crossflow v6 I have been working on trying to bring back to life. It is a 200 with some port work , 235 carbs and the heads are cut down some. Thought it looked good enough to post a picture here.
what is that on the mid?...
Makes an extra 50 hp !
It is just a gusset that was added when the mid was shortened. Probably didn't need it but a little added strength couldn't hurt. My brother built this mid years ago. It has a lot of hours on it with no problems. My brother is a outboard mechanic here in Key Largo at Bill Markeys. He is a pretty good welder too.
Cool....
175 evinrude
Yes he worked there before Markey's. How did you know it was Jimmy?
The W in your last name I just put 2 and 2 together. Tell him Virgil says hi! I remember seeing his crossflow when he had it on the little green/blue boat and he ran the seebold chopper looking prop.
Cool, that was a while back, it is amazing someone remembers it from back then. The prop was a 28 yamaha drag worked by seebold. He still runs around in that boat but he has a v4 on it now.
yeah i remember the v4 also, did he finish the lw pickup for it that was the last project i remember him working on before i was let go!
got a '89 merc 200 carb that stills runs like the day it was new. taking it off a 16 checkmate and putting it on a new tahoe tritoon. while i was tritoon shopping i picked up a '94 triad v-21 with a '91 johnson 225 ho and after running it a couple of times i think i'm going to like it as much as the merc.
so here's to salt and pepper!!!!
He still hasn't put that lower on yet. They ended up closing key largo harbor for a little while. That's when he went to Markey's. They opened it up again after a little while but there are no longer any Mechanics.
yeah i know of all the people i worked with i had the most fun with jimmy, we used to throw rocks at each other and do donuts in the dive boats{ ask him about that}, and he helped me rebuild my mid and powerhead on my 2.5 200 their as well.
Yes, I know about what went on over there.
It is something we have considered but I don't think it would possible to turn much of a profit. Doing this one was very time consuming. To do a lot of them some sort of a jig would have to be made so they could be built up faster and still be straight. Then you have to consider that because of the weld it is never going to have the structural integrity of a casted one like the taylor mid. The swivel and clamp bracket were also a lot of work, more than meets the eye . This was more of a labor of love than for profit.
is that the mid off of his crossflow?
yes, it is. I am putting that engine on a 18 foot motion, which is an action copy. I live on Tarpon basin and will be running it around the area. I wanted something I could run out to Nest Key quickly with my wife and kid's from time to time .
Thats cool. you keep the boat at your dads house.
watch out for them rocks!!!!!!
