V4 Crossflow Water in cylinders

Reference your #11 post middle picture. You should only see the end of the rubber deflectors. The one that is vertical is wrong and may have moved. Maybe a homemade version that was a little small in diameter. I know them to be basically a piece of tubing that had a thick wall and a small inner diameter hole, and not solid rubber. They should fit pretty snug. All four are oriented the same way, pointing towards the crankshaft.
I don’t know the reason behind them, I thought they ensured the water jacket was totally filled or eliminated a water flow problem. Definetly seems like an engineering “fix”. Al Stoker would know I’m sure.
Last thought: looks like you have three? One at the bottom corner of each lower cylinder and then your “vertical” one which has moved. Hopefully there isn’t a fourth that moved as well and hiding. You may want to take a closer look in the water passages. It wouldn’t make sense to install 3 and not four.

correct, makes the water move around the cyliders more VS past the cylinders. Without them you will have cold sides and hot sides of the cylinders. Mercury has these also so make sure you have them in there. you do not want them to to be too long, water needs to get around each side, the block side and the head side, you need a gap there on each side of the little tube. And make sure to put this one back in the correct spot!

RJ got it i will make sure i have 4 installed in the correct spots and also make sure the missing one isnt some place it shouldnt be.

I got the motor back together and on all diverters installed. Replacing the gasket for the bubble back and I also replaced the powerhead to midsection gasket fixed the water intrusion.

When running it on the hose I noticed some water coming out of the midsection where it shouldn't be. Looks like I have some more work to do :(

Cracked along the weld joint? That stinks to say the least…

Whats the inside like, setup like 77 140 with or without can or what?

Not exactly sure, Ken Racervboat built this one. It does have the can, and i believe that it has two half circles cut in the bottom to line up with the exhaust snouts he built above the cavitation plate.

That weld failure is nasty. The crack along the bottom indicates the base casting wall never fused with weld material? You really have to know what you are doing with welding on aluminum.

It does have the 140 intake, 135/very early production 140 ignition system.

A god exhaust close to the water will allow it to pump it back in to the cylinders
Always run it on a flusher after being in the water.
235's used to do it.
Always an issue on commercial boats.

I also was wondering if the water came into the cylinders through the exhaust, that may be what happened as when i ran out of gas the boat stopped quickly and the wave came over the back of the boat.
I am putting this powerhead on a nice tight factory 20" mid for the rest of the season while i figure out what to do with the 15" mid. Hopefully that doesn't choke the motor down too much. It will be nice to compare the 20 to the 15 to see it the 15 added anything to handling/top speed.
