If you're running a 21 aluminum right now at 5000, I would keep looking for a 19-21 shooter. Or buy and test and resell the 23
What rpm should I ultimately be looking for?
Actually, i raised it up and broke it free and vented up to 5800
without an increase in boat speed.
I found a 12.75 x 23 SS prop for $50. I'll give that one a try at the same height and see if it holds better.
13.5 22P raker
Can someone please recommend a prop that doesn't cost twice as much as the boat/trailer did? lol
I know I know. Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?
I have bought two rakers, 20 and 22” pitch for our ski boat. Both were under $200. One was here and the other was EBay. For my money Rakers are hugely under appreciated.
You could also look for a Renegade. A 21 Renegade came with my 16’ Baja.
I also really liked a 17” 4 blade Stiletto prop. It was clearly more than 17” pitch and it lifted well. That prop was not run on the Baja, different boat.
If I were spending my money I would try the 3 blade Stiletto. You can always sell a prop that doesn’t work out. It is sort of like renting a prop.
Of course that logic leads to the 11 props in my crawl space
Not many people can give you the magical prop. You have to buy and test like the rest of us. I'm not an OMC guy, but like we've been recommending a bow lifting 19-21 is a good start. Remember you have a Tahiti ski hull. Most of us have ski props and faster props
It seems fine. It just doesn't have PTT. I have a parts engine with PTT, but I'm still trying to figure out how to swap the transom bracket. It's not the kind that can be removed without messing with the motor. I'm sure PTT would make a big difference. It's tempting to put my 1983 Mariner I6 115hp with PTT on there. Seems like the props available for that motor are cheaper and more plentiful.
Set it and forget it, the right prop height and trim.
