FYI, if ya didn't know the Fairmont is a Fox body like the Stang.
Thx for that clarification.
I was pretty sure.
The Glidden tribute car is the first idea that rang my bell.
I think it was ‘1980 when Ford wouldn’t renew his contract and he told em to puss off.
He went to Chrysler and ran an Arrow w/like a 287 cu in small block, 340 based motor and won the Pro Stock Championship w/it.
I had my 340 Dart at the time and watched every race and did cart wheels when he won the championship.
Ford hired him back the next year
I wish someone would write a book about him.
I followed Pro Stock for ever.
Until they went to robo racers and team orders.
When Glidden retired, then Warren and Kurt Johnson, that was it for me.
Now if you painted em all the same color you couldn’t tell em apart.
Covering the motors between rounds, the drivers have all been to the John Force how to do an interview school, 1000’ etc.
I paid 800 for my Slincoln Mark 7, 5.0 HO running and driving!!! I could probably throw some rings and bearings in it and a hair drier super charger and get close to that horse power..
I love carbs, but EFI and roller cams is where it is at.
BTW the Slincoln M7 would be different. You'd have to put it on a severe diet. Same floor plan as the T Bird.
Yea, if you have a gen 4 Camaro/Bird and and have to work on the motor, a 4 post lift is a must. Once you get used to it, it's not that bad as you are dropping it all in one piece. Kind of like my Porsche. After I get the car in the air, on jack stands, with two floor jacks (one modified), I can have it out in an hour and a half, taking the required beer breaks! :D
Back in the day I got to hang around Gene Deputy on several occasions. Man, you talk about a smart man... More like genius!!! He started the whole 5.0 X body phenomena!!! When I knew him he had a Trans Am that would run high 10's and he drove it on the street!!! Not only on the street, but would road trip it.. getting over 20 mpg!!!
ANYWAY... Here was his Pro Stock (I guess) Lincoln. At the time he built the motor they had to FIND someone with a dyno that would hold up...

Gary,
One thing I've always liked about you is you think outside of the box, you blaze you own path, I've always respected that about you. Drag racing will be no different, do and make what you want, and whatever it is, we will all dig it! Can't wait to see what you come up with, I like the Mopar idea, anything old school cool, and semi street able is badd AZZ
Do pretend, nostalgic "funny cars" count?:leaving:

I’m just getting started. Sold all my drag boat stuff and going to try this out.
runs mid 11s on motor. Love it so far. Build a 11 second car for the price of one drag motor. LOL
Awesome stuff Buddy! Gorgeous car.
Is it Ford or Ls power?
Thx for posting.
And yeah, big part of my thinking is track proccemity compared to what you used to do.
I have 4 tracks within an hr of me and they race on different nights.
Cdave, I loved Gliddens every day, little guy racer mentality.
Ford thought he needed a Ford to win.
He showed them who/what he was when he beat them w/that combination.
Tons of fans in the stands.
Waiting around to makes passes can get old. The street legal thing is nice. I put this together over the winter and already put 200 gallons of e85 through it on the street. 12.5 to 1 355. It's a little different body too.Attachment 467488Attachment 467489Attachment 467490Attachment 467491
Have done the waiting in line and we’ll see how the Mrs does with it.
I hated it but never had the EZ Up, grill etc to wait at.
After 24 hrs of looking for Fairmonts, there are none.
I refuse to pay stupid money for one due to supply.
So back to looking at Fox body Stangs.
The fairmont thing was cool when you could pull the sleeper effect but even then, there’s not a lot of style there and most ladies like style. Most ladies like mustangs and corvettes. Speaking of which a c5 is a ton of fun to drive and a great platform to start with. It doesn’t take much to get those things rolling out being ls powered and all. Your not going to beat an LS dollar for dollar even two to one is likely up to about a thousand horse. After that BBC
sure you can go fast with all the others, just gonna cost you more. Plus those ls motors are reliable and take a beating plus very driveable. Yes I am a fan
