For sure. He has pushed the limits of this boat. Big in my decision for going for it. I hear there may be someone buying a bare boat - sure leaves options open for another hot rod. Also the story of the build design coming from the NW, where I have spent the last 30 years.Quote:

Those motors have a terrible gear ratio for speed.
We are hoping to gain some mph with a pitch increase. This etec motor is supposed to have a lot of out of the hole punch so increased pitch for gaining mph back? This is not my area of expertise, I am studying up...
Wow - the H.O. has a 2.36 gear ratio, and weighs 320lbs. Definately tractor gearing. The 60 non-HO is even worse at 2.9:1Quote:

We have done a little bit of homework home made. Gearcase size and prop availability are considerations. Most 70 hp motors have a smaller gearcase.
Also buying a boat turnkey from a builder requires them to adhere to the USCG hp rating, I hope you follow.
If the person pops up who may have bought a bare boat (not sure if this is true), maybe a big HP Biel will show up sooner or later.
If they sell the boat turn-key, then yes it has to follow flotation regulations, hp limits, gross weight limits, people / cargo etc as outlined by the USCG.Quote:

Have you looked at the Mercury Racing 60hp motor? It's only 240lbs compared to the evinrude HO at 320 lbs.
Even the Yamaha 60 is only 247lbs with a 1.85:1 gear ratio. 70hp is the same motor.
HECK even Honda 60 is 239lbs and a 2.07:1 ratio.
I know you said you did your research - but I looked this up in only a couple minutes.
Gearcase size. Plus the etec is the two stroke of the bunch.

This is the first Biel Promise tunnel boat in a long time. Mike Biel would like it to represent well. There are changes in the boat itself and also weight distribution. He is willing to work with anyone on their specific package. Complete boat or not.
Think about utilizing that channel down the center of the tunnel to run rigging for a center floor mounted shifter and/or throttle.
Yours makes me want to paint mine.
Rethink your motor choice.... your really gonna wish you had in a few months when your chasing propellers.
I would put a 90 Yamaha two stroke on it.
If you are basing you engine choice off the weight of mine which I had posted was 298 lbs you have to remember mine is only a 13" motor. You will have a lot of weight very high which is going to effect the handling in a negative way. The ones I have seen rigged with 90's handle better in chop and "hop" less. Tons of propeller choices as well. You would save money and have a better handling boat. At 262 lbs and a 2:1 gear ratio its a good fit.
What is the retail price for a base boat?
I am sure Maxacceleration is just looking for a runabout to enjoy the water and will have a nice package that is going to be useable the day he picks it up, We have all been there once the speed bug bites everything it came with goes out the window! The Etech does have good resale.
I have had the speed bug with motorcycles and I'm mostly over that. I have had the speed bug on my recently sold 16' Sugar Sand Optimax 200 inboard jet which achieved 65 mph. I hope to achieve 50-55 mph with the Biel boat with the 60 HO which rates at 65-67 hp (as I have read). And I hear it has great punch when compared to four strokes of the size.
Heavier motor, yes. Rebalanced boat? Yes. The fuel tank will be up front, coming from the rear originally. I am not sure on battery location yet.
Runabout, cruiser and a nice floaty plane at 50 would be sufficient. Learn the boat, and see what the future holds...
I want to sell it to the wife as fun and not terrifying. She's not much of a thrillseeker and I expect to solo it around or with a friend here & there on some fun lakes & rivers in the Northwest.
The 60 HO is a waste in my opinion. The 75 and 90hp are the same exact motor. 1.3L inline 3 cylinder. all 320lbs. Same bore and stroke, even the pictures are identical.
Get the 90 etec, rip off the "9" sticker, and flip it upside down! DONE !
